Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#91)
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.
Newest Additions:
Muscadine Bloodline – “Dispatch to 16th Ave.” – Country protest songs are a dime a dozen. Good country protest songs that actually say something meaningful and are enjoyable to listen to are hard to find. Muscadine Bloodline are so confident in theirs, they’re naming their new album out February 2nd, 2022 after it. And yes, it’s that good.
Carly Pearce feat. Ashley McBryde – “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” – Whoa, look at Ms. Pearce coming in strong with now two songs on the playlist, and this time with her current radio single with Ashley McBryde. After being one of the “most added” songs on country radio, “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” is on pace to have the best debuts for a single by either Pearce or McBryde. This song is a hit, and it’s all due of the superb writing by Pearce and McBryde personally.
Zachariah Malachi – “Local Bar Opry Star” – You’re gonna want to get this guy on your radar folks, and his debut single is the perfect excuse. Produced by the late Jimmy Capps, and featuring an all-star band behind him including Chris Scruggs on steel guitar, “Local Bar Opry Star” announces Zachariah Malachi as an important voice in throwback traditional country.
Joshua Ray Walker – “Dallas Lights” – From Dallas, TX, Joshua Ray Walker is doing his hometown proud after delivering the 3rd installment of his honky tonk album trilogy, See You Next Time. The opening song from the new album shows off his great voice, superb writing skills, and hometown pride.
Tyler Childers – “Yes I Guess They Outghta Name a Drink After You” – Over a year past Prine’s death, and over a year since we’ve heard any new recordings from Tyler Childers, the pair has collaborated to bestow us all with this new version of John Prine’s rather obscure, but well-loved whiskey swiller “Yes I Guess They Oughta Name a Drink After You” from the John Prine compilation Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, Vol. 2. I found dispatch really derivative and people say this kind of stuff 24/7 so this song really adds nothing tbh. Very low energy and sonically it felt so uninspired. There are more issues facing country music. And the one they tackle is just beating a dead horse.

Ha! Yeah, this topic comes up all the time when it comes to these protest songs. That’s why I mentioned it in the description. Then again, others feel like it would be a dereliction of duty if a song calling out Music Row wasn’t highlighted on a site called “Saving Country Music.” As it goes with protest songs, I thought this was one of the better ones.

Hey, thanks for the recommendation, great song! One artist I recently discovered is Sterling Drake, his latest EP “Roll the Dice” is really good. Check out the title track and also “Best of Tennessee”.

I had 29 Written in Stone for a few weeks and I still love it. The two songs on the playlist are great as is What He Didn’t Do. It’s an amazing tune about a famous singer who was married to a famous singer telling the world why she left him.
An amazing album
