Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#99)
Don’t let ANYONE convince you country music’s dead. Dig and you will find a new generation of performers joining the legends in revitalizing country music right under your nose. Here’s a place you can hear and discover them.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.
Newest Additions:
Brennen Leigh with Asleep At The Wheel – “In Texas With A Band” – Ooh! Brennen Leigh going Western Swing, and backed by Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel no less?!? And Chris Scruggs guesting on the track too? And even better, Brennen’s got a whole album of this stuff coming out May 6th called Obsessed with the West.
Lyle Lovett – 12th of June – Leave it to Lyle Lovett to not release anything for 10 years, and the drop this jaw dropper on us out-of-the-blue. It’s not just his unique swing style of country that has separated him from the pack. It’s his songwriting, illustrated by the title track to his next album out May 13th.
Dolly Parton with Ben Haggard – “Demons” – Anything Ben Haggard sings on immediately becomes as smooth as butter. It’s just a shame songs featuring Merle’s son are so few and far between. But we’re treated to something special here by Ben and Dolly Parton. From Dolly’s recent release Run, Rose, Run.
Stefanie Joyce – “Love Thy Neighbor” – It’s the half time groove indicative of Waylon Jennings that draws you into this song. It’s the perspective that Stefanie Joyce boldly presents that makes it like few other country songs you’ve ever heard before. There are plenty of cheater songs in country. Few present a Devil’s Advocate case for the cheater. Yes, she went there.
Molly Tuttle – “Crooked Tree” – It’s not just the picking of the title track of Molly Tuttle latest album, but the wordplay and wisdom of “Crooked Tree” that makes it worthy of the Top 25 Playlist. We’ve been waiting for that definitive Molly Tuttle bluegrass record, and now we’ve got it.
Matt Castillo – “Leaving Since You Got Here” – Matt Castillo’s new album How The River Flows highlights his south Texas blend of traditional country, and the writing on this track combined with a little bit of squeeze box makes it a standout and the perfect illustration of what makes Castillo valuable to country music.
Alma Russ – “Bad Mamma Jamma” – Stirring your very soul, sending flutters through your heart and shivers down your spine, the voice of Alma Russ makes an immediate and lasting impact upon exposure as it passes over you, prickling your pores like the first warm breeze of spring, and leaving one viciously yearning for its presence once again after it passes.
Randall King – “Hard Way To Make It Rain” – Randall King kicks the energy up a notch on this track from his new album Shot Glass. Often compared to George Strait, King also proves he can reinvigorate the traditional country medium with songs like this. You can tell “Hard Way To Make It Rain” will kick ass live too.

based on the article and following comments, this really is the best music discussion and suggestion site out there. i need to start a Twitter beef with AOC and surreptitiously start promoting it. maybe stir something up with Margo Price while i am at it and mention here as much as i can get into 280 characters. over and over.
