Album Review – Chancey Williams – “One of These Days”

chancey-williams

If we could wave a magic wand and instantly remake mainstream country music into something much better than what it is today, Chancey Williams and “One of These Days” would not be a bad wish at all. It’s country with steel guitar and fiddle. It’s cool. It’s catchy and hooky, but the songs still say something.

matt-hillyer

Austin has 6th Street, but Dallas has Deep Ellum. Houston has the massive Rodeo Houston, but Dallas has the State Fair of Texas. Lubbock has The Flatlanders and Flatland Cavalry, but Dallas has Joshua Ray Walker, The Vandoliers, and Matt Hillyer. It’s easy to overlook the Dallas influence on Texas music…

charley-crockett

He’s known as one of the hardest working artists in country music, and for good reason. Not only has he been releasing albums at a 2-per-year clip for years now, he tours harder than most anyone else. This will be the case once again in 2023 as Charley Crockett has just released a slew of new tour dates.

Hilarious Will Thompson Song Eviscerates “Checklist” Country

will-thompson-checklist

Not only does Will Thompson’s “Checklist” perfectly parody problematic country music found on the radio, it also maligns a lot of the other elements that accompany these kinds of songs, like rap cadences, the rising radio chorus, and Auto-Tuned vocal signals. He’s pretty merciless and thorough.

There’s just about nothing bigger for a girl from Kentucky than being recognized by the Bluegrass State’s Governor and playing the Grand Ole Opry. Brit Taylor is about to experience both in as many weeks, and it’s well deserved after earning worthy praise for her recent album ‘Kentucky Blue.’

blanco-brown-national-anthem

It’s so often embarrassing as a country music fan when some mainstream “country” (in quotations) performer gets presented on a national stage. The most recent example was Blanco Brown singing the National Anthem ahead of the NASCAR race on Sunday (3-19) at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
