Album Review – Joe Stamm Band’s “Little Crosses”

joe-stamm-band

Releasing ‘Little Crosses’ in the dead of summer is smart timing for Stamm and Co. This is a summer album full of serious heartland rock, songs that stoke sentimental memories, and a little bit of recklessness.

The Best Country & Roots Songs of 2022 So Far

best-country-songs-so-far-2022

Songs are the most important unit of measurement in music, and the specific moment a life can change, a perspective can shift, a deep emotion that has gone dormant is re-awakened, and life is enhanced positively henceforth. When we talk about potential “Song of the Year” nominees, were not looking for the toe tappers.

Album Review – Aaron Watson’s “Unwanted Man”

aaron-watson

Aaron Watson might be one of the hardest artists to get a read on in country music. He’s a fiercely independent and principled performer who embodies the DIY Outlaw spirit of the music as much as anyone. Yet Watson also covets many of the sounds and accolades of the mainstream.

Maren Morris Criticized for Disallowing Local Openers

maren-morris

It’s a cool program the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion has put together, with local bands opening for big-named acts all summer. But apparently when the team for Maren Morris caught wind that there would be a local act playing on the Hazy Little Stage, they cited a “no local openers” clause.

Meet Dickey Lee, One of Country’s Greatest Living Songwriters

dickey-lee

Dickey Lee is one of the greatest living country music songwriters. If you don’t believe me, just start by looking at the list of #1’s he’s written. This in part is how Dickey Lee landed in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1995, and has amassed 22 BMI awards. But that’s not all.

Charlie Robison Makes Surprise Post-Retirement Appearance

It very well could have just been a one-off engagement, and no more. But as a fan, you hold out hope. It’s never over until it’s over. The fact that Charlie is still around, and we know he has at least some capacity still to play and sing, perhaps there may be a little more of it in the future.

Few voices ever graced the Western traditions of Texas music so eloquently, and perhaps nobody ever brought such compositional prowess to the music and with a host of instruments as Bobby Flores. Known as a side man to some of country music’s most famous artists, as well as an accomplished solo artist.

drew-kennedy

Kennedy and producer Davis Naish brought in a sparse selection of instruments and a beautiful tribute ode to a corner of the world that the singer-songwriter has fallen in love with over the years. They spent a week in a small adobe house in the tiny Far West Texas town after which the album is named.
