The Bridge City Sinners and front woman Libby Lux use dark stories and even darker sounds to exorcise internal demons and personal doubts, and to refract the darkness that comes barreling toward the human soul.

Why I Won’t Buy Strait’s “The Cowboy Rides Away” Deluxe Edition
24 Comments
Though this new deluxe edition seems like an excellent way to experience the concert if you were unable to attend, or the perfect reminder if you were, or it might make a great gift for the country music fan in your family since it’s being released right before Christmas, I for one will not be purchasing this deluxe edition, or frankly any edition of “The Cowboy Rides Away.”

Doug Seegers Beyond The “Homeless Man Made Star” Story
18 Comments
The story of the homeless Nashville singer-songwriter done good named Doug Seegers crossed the Saving Country Music news desk early on in the story’s cycle, before big outlets like NPR and the Wall St. Journal were running big features on the heartwarming tale, but for whatever reason, a story that seemed like it was fit for telling filled me with a bit of trepidation.
Song Review – Toby Keith’s “Drunk Americans”
Forget that now the last six Toby Keith singles in a row very heavily involve drinking— that’s “Beers Ago,” “Red Solo Cup,” “Hope on the Rocks,” “I Like Girls That Drink Beer,” and “Drinks After Work” for those of you counting at home—this is a song with a message dammit! What makes it a little difficult to stomach is this idyllic, hopeful picture it paints of the American reality that is so far off the mark…
A Remembrance of “Tim Pop” — Podcaster & Selfless Person
11 Comments
“Tim Pop” Hervey was a tower of a man who was the perfect example of selflessly taking of ones own time to take up the charge of serving worthy music to the public that would otherwise go unheard and under-appreciated. He never did it to be cool in a scene. Whenever he heard something that he believed was magical, his very first desire was to share it, so everyone else could take part in that magic too.
Ryan Adams: “I Do Not Like Fu!$ing Country Music”
105 CommentsRyan Adams was one of the unquestionable leaders of this punk-infused country music conquest, and that is why it was so disconcerting to read recently that apparently he not only does not like country music, but he apparently never has, never really cared about it even when he was playing it, and certainly doesn’t want anything to do with it now.

Why The CMA’s Should Consider Adding “Traditional” Categories
32 CommentsIt has become patently obvious, especially over the last few years, that country music exists in two completely different worlds. One is the traditional world, where the way country music sounds is in close proximity to the way it has always sounded. And the other is Top 40 or mainstream country, which in the last few years has become the home for a hodgepodge of musical influences.
New Music from Jamey Johnson “Coming Soon”
28 CommentsThis news comes after a protracted wait for new original music from Jamey that goes back to September of 2010 when he released his last original album of music, The Guitar Song. In 2012 Jamey also released Living For A Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, but it did not contain any new Jamey Johnson-penned songs. Jamey has been in a contract dispute with his publisher.
Album Review – Shakey Graves’ “And The War Came”
12 CommentsHow to evolve into a full band setting while still holding onto what won you such rabid grassroots support was the precarious challenge Shakey Graves was asked to pull off with this new Dualtone release And The War Came, and it’s what he accomplishes with such alacrity, the listener remains delightfully unaware any such challenge even existed.
