Questions Remain After Ella Langley Cancels Tulsa Show Amid Threats

Ella Langley has cancelled her show set for Friday, October 9th at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a caller threatened “great harm to the people at this event in the way of shots fired and bombs.” Even though the Tulsa Police Department had swept the arena and greater area before the call, and came out to sweep the area again after the call, out of an abundance of caution, Ella Langley’s team chose to cancel the show.
Just before 5 pm Central time, a notice went out on Ella Langley’s social media pages saying,
Due to a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, venue personnel, and the artist, Ella Langley’s scheduled performance tonight at BOK Center in Tulsa has been canceled.
The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our absolute priority, and, after careful consideration, we have determined that the show cannot proceed. We understand the disappointment this news brings and apologize to fans who planned to attend. The safety of our fans is our foremost concern and will always come first.
Additional information and details regarding ticket refunds will be shared as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of all involved.
However, the Tulsa Police Department has felt the need to clarify that after sweeping the area twice, they found no credible threat, and advised Ella Langley’s crew that they didn’t see a reason to cancel the event. In a video statement by Tulsa Police Captain Richard Mulenberg, he said,
I want to first start off by saying that we did not cancel the event, and neither did the BOK Center. What happened was was every time we have an event down here, we do a pre-sweep, we work very closely with BOK security and with police officers in the street out here.
So we walk this area several times with our K-9 team, with our bomb dogs, and could not find any threat. So the event was ready to go. And then what happened was a call came in, saying that someone was going to [do] great harm to the people here at this event in the way of shots fired and bombs. So we came out again in an overabundance of caution, used our bomb dogs again, searched the entire area, we could not find a credible threat here at the BOK Center.
We advised the group that was supposed to be performing tonight that we could not find a credible threat. We would never tell anybody if we couldn’t find a credible threat to cancel their event. So they made the decision to cancel their event tonight. I’m sorry that had taken place. The most disappointing thing is that thousands of people were here for a sold-out event to come and enjoy this show, and they can’t be here. So the person who called this in was a phone call, disrupted this entire event for all these folks.
So I can tell you now, we can’t find anything here at the location that indicates that this is a credible event. We apologize to everyone who came down to the Tulsa area for this. But everything is safe.
Though it’s understandable why the Tulsa Police Department might not want to shoulder the criticism for the Ella Langley show being cancelled, it seems strange they would release a video statement so emphatically making sure the public knows they are not to blame instead of trying to encourage people to help in the investigation of who made the threats in the first place.
This invariably puts the onus on the Ella Langley camp for cancelling the show, and alludes to them being overcautious for doing so. But what we don’t know is the specific details of the threat, and how ominous or serious it might have been.
If the Ella Langley camp had ignored the threat and something happened at the event, then the would have to answer to why they didn’t take the threat seriously and proceeded with the show. The Ella Langley camp might have also been required by insurance, or the contract policy of the promoter, or the policy of contractors or vendors involved to cancel the event when such threats are made.
Whenever an event of this nature is cancelled, it inconveniences many fans, including those who drove or sometimes fly from out of state, and book hotel rooms for the show. Now the Tulsa Police Department has given these angry fans ammunition to go after Ella Langley, who might’ve had no other choice but to cancel herself.
More information is needed as to who made the decision to cancel the show, and why. But the Tulsa Police Department also needs to worry about doing their job as opposed to assigning blame and shielding themselves from criticism.
Tulsa Police threw Ella Langley under the bus, instead of centering the Tulsa Crime Stoppers number of 918-596-COPS for anyone to call with credible information on who made the death threat so they can be brought to justice.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t see the value or the reason for the police to release a dedicated video statement emphatically distancing themselves from this concert cancellation as their primary focus in the aftermath of all this. Sure, you can clarify that it was the decision of the promoters, and not theirs to cancel the event. But leave it at that. To hand wave away any fear that the threat might be credible, and to say, “Hey, we swept the area four hours before the event is set to start, and so that means no threat could present itself right before or during the event and there’s no reason to be concerned moving forward” seems a little ridiculous. It probably was just a crank call. But maybe investigate it, trace the call, try to run down who made it before they have to cancel the show so that maybe it can move forward.
The police, just like the media, has to know they’re going to catch some flack from the public. It comes with the job. Going on a social media campaign to make sure everyone knows they’re not to blame seems lame to me. The person that made the death threat is to blame, full stop. And the promoter behind the tour probably has an insurance policy that doesn’t allow them to move forward when a threat has been made. The biggest mass shooting in American history happened at a country music concert. There’s a reason folks are cautious about this stuff.

I agree 100%. The police look bad here. With so many kooks out there, I believe team Ella did the right thing. I’m sure the cops in Vegas believed everything was secure, too. It’s a no win situation for team Ella, like you said. Had they gone ahead and something bad had happened, people would have went bananas. I’m just glad everybody is safe.

Found this
“Due to a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team, the incredibly difficult decision was made to cancel tonight’s show,” the “Choosin’ Texas” singer, 27, wrote via Instagram on Friday, October 9. “This decision was made under the advisement of local authorities, the venue, and my security team.”
I say there was a breakdown in communication, which Tulsa PD clarified. A skeptic might say Ella Langley threw them under the bus and they returned the favor.
The bigger picture is that we live in a time where pre-concert security sweeps, bomb sniffing dogs and distinguishing credible threats from non-credible threats are necessary and the norm. I can’t blame anyone for erring on the side of caution.
October 9, 2026 @ 8:51 pm
Not sure when that statement was posted, but it could have only been up for a very short period before the one quoted and linked here was released. Either way, they took it down. In the statement, they also don’t blame the police department, and triple down on that, as if they didn’t want any culpability in the decision.
I just don’t understand why it’s so imperative for the police department to let the world know they had no part in the decision to cancel this show. It feels like such a minor detail.

My bad. I should’ve cited my source.
https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/ella-langley-cancels-show-over-security-threat/
There is no link to the original Instagram post and the only reference to the time of the post is that it was made hours before she was supposed to take the stage.
I suspect Ella and her people put out information they believed to be accurate about Tulsa PD advising them to cancel, and deleted it when they learned otherwise. As likely as not, no ill intent was intended. The response from Tulsa was more likely driven internally, not from taking heat from the public. People like politicians, city planners, etc. get real testy when a negative event occurs in their city. I’m sure they wanted to get the word out that the concert could’ve gone on because their city is safe and beautiful and a great place to spend money. The message came from their PD, probably with a lot of input and prodding from the machine.
FYI, I have no insight into the inner workings of Tulsa city government, just calling a hunch.
October 10, 2026 @ 7:52 am
I was able to find the first statement that they took down and it does say law enforcement weighed in along with the BOK Center and others. Maybe they were mistaken in that language and that’s why they took it down.
October 9, 2026 @ 8:53 pm
I definitely feel sorry for Ella and her fan base for this cancellation, but I understand the reason for doing it. I shudder to think of what would have happened if either Ella’s crew or the Tulsa PD had done nothing, and something as extreme as what had been threatened actually DID take place in that arena. These are bizarre times we are living through; and unfortunately for Ella, because she is currently the hottest ticket around, through no fault of her own she is now a potential target.
I would hope that either the FBI or the Tulsa PD run this threat to ground and catch the maniac who made it. Just the mere issuing of the threat itself is an act of terrorism.
October 10, 2026 @ 7:39 am
The FBI director has one eye on this situation, I can assure you.
He would have both eyes on it, but, well, you know….
October 13, 2026 @ 9:10 pm
That was a necessary comment? WOW You think it was funny somehow?
October 9, 2026 @ 9:21 pm
Maybe the police were getting some flak. I dont blame whoever cancelled it but at same time this just tells anyone that wants to mess with a show or anything like it that all they have to do is call in a bomb threat with a burner phone. Its demented but it is what it is, weve had threats like that at my work.

Trig any word on tonight’s show in Lubbock?
October 10, 2026 @ 7:15 am
As far as I know, the show in Lubbock is still on.
October 10, 2026 @ 6:35 am
I’m assuming this is because of Ella’s deer hunt. Over the years, there have been Islamic terrorists (the deadliest), but they don’t tend to make threats. They just do it. After that, there is the “animal rights” crowd. These ladies, along with their beta-male hangers-on, tend to be the craziest, shrillest, and most unreasonable. Hard to believe one anonymous threat could shut down such a massive event! We’re living in interesting times.
October 10, 2026 @ 9:25 am
Oh deer!
October 11, 2026 @ 6:53 am
Yup, the biggest terrorist event in Oklahoma history was done by an animal rights activist! Give me a break. This was probably done by some kook or immature person who thought it’d be hilarious, probably no political motivation was involved because if there was, then the person behind it would try to make it happen, not just get a concert cancelled.
October 12, 2026 @ 4:22 pm
The Oklahoma City bombing?
October 12, 2026 @ 11:36 am
You people are so weird
October 10, 2026 @ 7:12 am
I really don’t mean this to sound critical, but why is the police statement so poorly written? The grammar and verbiage feel like someone just rambled on, is that a text of someone talking?
October 10, 2026 @ 7:13 am
Sorry, my fault, I didn’t read it thoroughly; that was a transcript of the police chief speaking. Weird statement by them though.
October 10, 2026 @ 7:27 am
The police statement is a transcription of a video that is linked before the statement. In a previous time, the police would probably be more thoughtful and intentional with their words, and put out a prepared statement. Now they’re just pointing their phones at their faces like TikTok influencers and speaking extemporaneously because someone texted them that they don’t want people blaming the PD for the cancellation.
And just to underscore, the threat that came in was not that someone intended to place a bomb at the BOK Center four hours before the show that police could find. The threat was to attack the concert with shots fired and bombs. That could very well mean someone packs a box truck full of fertilizer like they did down the road in Oklahoma City, drive it into the bollards, and blow a hole in the side of the building while running inside with an assault rifle to kill people while they flee. 99% it was a crank with Cricket phone who called in the threat who never intended to act upon it. But the idea that everything is a okay because they swept the area four hours before the show doesn’t really sound like crack police work to me. The threat is not neautralized because you still don’t know what or who the threat is.
This happened at a Cody Jinks show a few years back. They cancelled too. It ended up being a crank with a phone smuggled into a prison. But you just never know.

October 10, 2026 @ 7:30 am
Well, it’s better to be safe than sorry as the old saying goes. I’m with Trigger on this one. The Tulsa PD may not have found a “credible” threat, by it’s not worth taking the chance. Their statement was incredibly unprofessional and the blame they put on Ella and her team is unnecessary IMO.
October 10, 2026 @ 9:15 am
Better to just sit on the couch and play with your phone. That’s safer.
October 10, 2026 @ 9:26 am
I don’t think that’s what anyone is advocating for. The only person in this scenario that’s on their phone was the police spokesperson who felt inclined to throw an artist under the bus because they didn’t want to catch any heat for the show cancellation. Why doesn’t the police department get off their phones and actually investigate who made the death threat? Instead, they’re trying to convince the public that since they found no bombs four hours before the event that’s under threat that means a threat won’t present itself when the actual event is going on and the people are present to terrorize.
When do terrorists attack events? Four hours before they start when they venue is empty? Or during an event when they’re full of people, making them a target?
October 10, 2026 @ 7:38 am
Taxpayers just need to fund a few more Flock cameras for the Tulsa PD and stuff like this wouldn’t happen…..

Somewhere in Tulsa LouAnne, junior stylist at Hairway to Heaven salon is having a difficult conversation about her “really loud bangs” FB post with the fbi…
Seriously tho this is a great example of “It’s not the odds, it’s the stakes” so good call, by me.

Alright, that’s pretty damn funny.

You jest, but in 2019, a Wichita Home Depot called 911 because a guy in the restroom said he was “fixin’ to blow it up”. Let’s hope the guy got to finish his business before the cops arrived!

I can only assume that Iran’s map of the US is incorrect and they thought they were taking out LA or San Diego as the orange goblin invited them to.
October 10, 2026 @ 6:30 pm
The reason Timothy McVeigh targeted the Federal Building in Oklahoma City is because it was much softer target than somewhere on the two coasts. I don’t appreciate you veering into politics here, but this issue does emphasize how vulnerable the Midwest would be to an attack, especially when you have the police calling an all-clear because no explosives were found four hours before the crowd arrived.
October 13, 2026 @ 9:12 pm
Had to make it political huh? SMH
October 10, 2026 @ 7:04 pm
I’m not going to criticize anyone for canceling a show, due to a threat, sitting here from a thousand-plus miles away and having no feel for what’s going on there.
But I’m also not going to criticize anyone for going ahead with a show, in spite of an anonymous threat. Anyone can transmit an anonymous threat to anywhere and if businessess and venues were required to give credence to such threats, beyond notifying police and FBI and letting them deal with it, we a handful of determined idiots could force the shutdown of the whole country. For events like the Super Bowl or World Cup, I’d imagine they recive threats near all the time, They have security and the event goes on.
October 12, 2026 @ 6:12 pm
This. It’s not like the police didn’t do their jobs. They did their jobs and then some. I think that Ella and her team have every right to be questioned over it. Did EL and her team feel like the sweeps weren’t good enough? Were there other threats that the public doesn’t know of? It feels like there are more questions after something like this. I completely understand being cautious, I do.
October 10, 2026 @ 10:51 pm
Authority blames everyone else after still not identifying the source of the problem.
Shocking.
October 10, 2026 @ 11:36 pm
It is very difficult for the artist. The Police found nothing does not mean that there is nothing and the threat is not credible. They do miss things. Very frustrating for the artist and the fans. One of those situations you damned if you cancel, damned if you don’t and then something happens.
October 11, 2026 @ 7:00 am
As Trig and others mentioned, many insurance policies for event spaces state events need to be canceled in the event of a “credible” threat. It could be that police figured there was no threat but event management, as well as their lawyers, decided it was.
October 11, 2026 @ 5:30 am
Reckless from the TPD to share their protocol and how quick they gave the all-clear just to shift blame.
October 12, 2026 @ 1:31 pm
Exactly. Not finding anything and knowing for sure there’s no credible threat are two very different things. Now had they tracked down the person who’d made the threat and had them in custody, and made sure there were no other parties involved, things might have been different. Team Ella did the right thing. Safety is paramount.
October 12, 2026 @ 7:31 am
I will never criticize a performer for canceling under these kinds of circumstances. We live in a messed up world. She hasn’t aligned herself with anybody politically, so it’s hard to see that as the motivation, but with the world we live in, especially in the US…yikes.
I’m glad this cancellation occurred. The police department response after the fact is so strange and petty.
October 12, 2026 @ 7:47 am
I’m glad nobody got hurt. People are being so weird about this woman online for some reason and she does not deserve this.
October 12, 2026 @ 9:46 am
She’s almost too relatable. It’s refreshing but it also opens strange doors in the minds of the unhinged. Her accessibility to the average person and their experience is the driver of her fame, but it also results in obsessions, fixations, and the like. Celebrities deal with this across the board, but the exposure + her relatability is bringing out the worst in people. Not her fault at all, obviously.
October 12, 2026 @ 12:47 pm
This might be the first time that I’ve ever said something like this but I’m with the cops on this one. If the performer & performer management decided to cancel then they need to own it.
A bunch of these people ended up at Mercury Lounge and ended up seeing a better show.
October 12, 2026 @ 1:27 pm
The performer and management did “own it.” The cops just look like fools for seemingly being more concerned about their reputation than anything else.
October 12, 2026 @ 1:31 pm
Yes, Ella Langley came out and said she would make the decision again 100 out of 100 times and took full ownership in it. And she never distanced from making that decision. Perhaps something got lost in the initial statements, but Ella is putting all the onus on herself. That’s leadership.
October 12, 2026 @ 4:53 pm
The police did their jobs appropriately. They were asked by news media and responded that they found no credible threat and did not advise Ella’s team to cancel the show. Would you prefer they lie to protect the weakness of Ella and her team? The cancelation was entirely on Ella. Would have been nice if Ella really cared about her fans that she would have done a video message saying she was sorry (not just a lame statement). She had plenty of time on the bus ride out of town. Sorry, but saying something at the next concert does not cut it to the fans you left high and dry. And not even a statement that she would try to reschedule or anything. I guess her and her team just don’t care that much.
October 12, 2026 @ 6:35 pm
“They were asked by news media and responded that they found no credible threat.”
Is that what happened? Generally speaking, I don’t think anyone gives a shit who’s call it was to cancel the show. I think the vast, vast majority of ticket holders understand the situation, and appreciate the show was cancelled.
I don’t know that any of us can say the threat was credible or not. Who made it? We still don’t know. What was the threat specifically? We haven’t heard any details.
At the Route 91 Harvest Festival, 60 people were murdered, and over 800 injured. Sweeping the area four hours before the event for bombs would have not prevented that tragedy. When McVeigh blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma City killing 167 people and injuring 684, would sweeping the area four hours before prevented the bombing? When ISIS attacked the Bataclan in 2015 killing 90 people, would sweeping the grounds four hours before the concert prevented the massacre? In all those instances, the answer is “No.”
It was probably just a crank making a threat. But until we know who that crank is, nobody is in a position to say the threat was not credible.
