Remember The Name “Ian Noe,” Music Fans

If you’ve been paying any attention to country music over the last few years, you know to be paying attention to just about any performing songwriter hailing from Kentucky. It’s the state that has given us Tyler Childers, Dillon Carmichael, Chris Stapleton, Kelsey Waldon, and Sturgill Simpson just to name a few over the last few years. The Bluegrass State has been downright fueling the country music insurgency, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down anytime soon.
But that’s not the only reason you need to be paying attention to Beattyville, Kentucky native Ian Noe. This young man is about to go international if everything lines up right, which circumstances seem to be conspiring to do. A folk-style songwriter with a compelling voice reminiscent of Gary Stewart, Ian Noe released a mostly-overlooked four-song EP in 2017 called Off This Mountaintop, and started touring around with well-established Canadian folk singer Colter Wall, including in Europe. If you’ve heard or seen Ian Noe before, opening for Colter is probably where you were first introduced. And just like Colter, Noe’s received a ringing endorsement from Aquaman actor Jason Momoa.
Now Ian Noe is getting ready to release a full-length debut album called Between The Country on May 31st distributed by Thirty Tigers, and has released a new version of his song “Irene,” which initially appeared on the 2017 EP (listen below). Underscoring just what kind of respect Ian Noe is receiving from his peers, and how good folks think he is, Ian will be opening for Blackberry Smoke, John Prine, Son Volt, and Jamestown Revival leading up to and after the release of his debut record.
Saving Country Music caught Ian Noe performing at Folk Alliance in February, and the oozing authenticity, penetrating stories, intensity, and palpable performing magic you want and expect from an artist like this was all evident. If you dig on Tyler Childers, Colter Wall and the like, then you’ll definitely will want to have you antennae perked for Ian Noe.
Debut album Between The Country can now be pre-ordered.

Good stuff. More folk than country. I can hear Dylan, Prine, and many others in his voice and writing.

I really enjoyed those two songs. I look forward to the release of his record to check him out more. Thanks!

not feelin it …..more folk than country to my ear , as benny suggests .
…. nothing wrong with that , of course , if that’s what you’re looking for .
its real though and I admire that integrity .

He’s represented by the same team that represents Colter Wall. He’s going to be big. I preordered his album already. Can’t wait.
March 25, 2019 @ 5:27 pm
He reminds me of Joseph Huber.
March 25, 2019 @ 5:42 pm
You ain’t kidding. Hot damn.
Bad luck with the timing. He will be in the Midwest the week I’m in NC and then in NC right after I get back to the Midwest.
March 25, 2019 @ 6:59 pm
Meh. But, I do appreciate articles like this. I love you keeping us ahead of the game. This doesn’t excite me.

…had a chance to meet the great Justin Wells a few months back after one of his shows and the conversation turned to about how great the talent coming out of Ky is and he told me to watch out for Ian Noe.,., He also spoke highly about Tyler Childers and how much of a real deal he is. Cool to see how that community is watching out and supporting each other…and get well Jerry Lee

Sounds like a Buy to me. I wish the vocals were a little lighter on the ‘hailing from a cavern’ effect, but, a Buy nonetheless.

Saw him open for colter in Somerville MA. Real deal. One of my most anticipated albums of the year.
March 26, 2019 @ 12:49 pm
I was at that show. IDK.. He was alright, but needs work’
That was an awesome Colter show though..
Spellbinding
March 26, 2019 @ 1:14 pm
Yeah, he was awesome. It was the crowd that sucked.
March 26, 2019 @ 12:47 pm
I’ve saw him twice. He was OK, but needs some seasoning and a but more of his own identity.
He was no where near on the level of Colter Wall who he was opening for.
I wouldn’t crown him the next big thing or influence at this point.
But time may change that.

What do you play? Do you have any music out?
March 29, 2019 @ 7:12 am
I don’t know why Off This Mountaintop didn’t resonate with me last year. I’ll revisit when the full length is released.
March 29, 2019 @ 4:46 pm
Not jumping out at me, yet. Levon’s is nearby. It’s sold out, but maybe I’ll go and listen through the doors.
May 31, 2019 @ 7:05 am
Loved the first releases, dissapointed with the rest of the album.
July 20, 2019 @ 5:55 am
Record of the year.
