Saving Country Music Theme Song Contestants!
A while back I solicited the dirty public for a Saving Country Music “Theme Song” as part of a cryptic, undisclosed endeavor, and you responded with some GREAT candidates. Now it is time to march these submission out in front of the jury, and have YOU give your thoughts on which one is best.
In truth the field is so strong, I will probably use all the songs in one capacity or another. And if bands/artists still want to turn in submissions, please do. In the meantime, please check out these submissions, and the artists that put their heart into them.
Adam Lee & The Dead Horse Sound Company
I recently reviewed their great new album When The Spirits Move Me. Adam Lee is an amazing singer and a great songwriter, and his submission is living proof.
[audio:https://savingcountrymusic.com/audio/radio-intro-adam-lee.mp3]Undead Joe
I am embarrassed to admit I had never heard of this guy until he sent in his submission, but Undead Joe and his trio are bad ass, and a band you MUST check out. And listen to this theme song they put together!
[audio:https://savingcountrymusic.com/audio/radio-intro-undead-joe.mp3]Kunzy from Ol’ Red Shed
Ol’ Red Shed is a band you should know about if you don’t already. Look for their long-anticipated album coming out soon!
[audio:https://savingcountrymusic.com/audio/radio-intro-ol-red-shed.mp3]Shon Hampton
Waylon may be gone, but when you hear Shon Hampton and his New Outlaw Band, you’ll swear you’re hearing Waylon’s ghost!
[audio:https://savingcountrymusic.com/audio/radio-intro-shon-hampton.mp3]Lone Wolf
Another fella that I recently reviewed a new album from. I’m telling you, Lone Wolf is one to watch!

Ha! I said the same thing when I first heard about “Nerdcore”. Hey, if they don’t want people thinking they mean Lady Antebellum when they say they play country, more power to them!

I have to go w/ Adam Lee but they all are great and I think you may have just turned me on to Shon Hampton…. what a voice!

Awesome! Congratulations to all the artists who submitted songs, such incredible talent.
– I love the ‘old timey’ vibe of Lone Wolf’s song
– Shon’s voice is amazing and I like the lyrics
– Kunzy’s lyrics are my favourite
– Undead Joe’s song is probably the most instantly likeable. As someone who works in broadcast promos this one is probably the most ‘promo friendly’.
– Love Adam Lee’s voice! That warble is hot.
I’m not even going to cast a vote as every single one of these has it’s merits and deserves to win. I think you should just go with which ever hits you hardest in the pit of your stomach,Triggerman. Good luck with that 😉

I was hoping for “Jesus Was a Capricorn” by Kris Kristofferson.

They are all good, but I have to say Adam Lee or Shon Hampton. Those two stood out. Undead Joe is great, it’s a jingle! Which is maybe what you’re after. You can’t go wrong, but Adam Lee and Shon Hampton are my favorites.

All of them sound great! i would use them all but a different one for each episode, but me personally now being a fan of Adam Lee & the Dead Horse Sound Company, now i have to say i like his the best, but again they’re all great!

They’re all so good! Hard to choose. But I’m a little partial to a banjo and the harmonica.
Great blog Triggerman.

Not an enviable task to have to choose between these – but for me, I’d take Adam Lee’s effort.

My favorite was Undead Joe, followed by Kunzy. But really any of them you pick Trig is a worthy choice. Cant go wrong anyway you go.

I liked them all! But I think Undead Joe is the way to go! It’s short, sweet and to the point and incredibly catchy!!!

I think you have to go with Shon. Great voice, great lyrics. Seems to fit the whole reason for this website. Its sound just fits.

Not a bad song in the bunch. Fo a theme song though, I’d pick Undead Joe.

Short, to the point and catchy, I vote Adam Lee. I hear this song as a great intro to a GREAT but yet supposed radio show!

I posed my opinion before I read comments because I didn’t want to be swayed by “respected” opinion. After reading all and the additions through the day…I am still going with Adam Lee cause I think the “JINGLE” is what is gonna keep people tunned when they hit it on the dial..know what I mean? I think it is a great TAG or “cross over” while getting the message across…”Stay Tuned”…even for curiosities sake. The more I hear it, I like Undead Joe’s entry…but I think it’s (retro). Don’t get me wrong, I love retro with the new sound, I just think it’s more for the folks that already know your SCM site rather than pulling in the “NEW” ear, And THAT is what I think the intention would be.

Kunzy from Ol’ Red Shed, but the other songs are great as well, this calls for a compilation cd Saving Country Music songs a cd to support the site…, I hope Ronnie Hymes _ Carolina Freight will send one as well, it must be hard to choose one, hope the votes will help you.

Forget the contest, I just got turned on to three really cool bands! My vote is between either Adam Lee or Undead Joe with the edge going to Undead Joe on account of the steel guitar.

If you were to ask me, I’d say use all of them from time to time. If you were to narrow it down, I’d say Lone Wolf.

April 1, 2011 @ 11:18 am
That’s probably what’s going to happen, but it’s looking more and more like Undead Joe will be the main one.

Wow…that’s all I can say. All very great songs. If I were to pick one I’d have to go with Adam Lee.

Shon Hampton…That voice just stops you dead in your tracks and the lyrics are great. The first three just seem, as Aran said, like a jingle. I love the sound of Lone Wolf’s but I couldn’t hear his voice hardly. Maybe it’s because I’m at work and I am only using one half of the headphones. I’m going to check him out right now though.
Scott

A day later I still think Adam Lee’s song is the best choice.

April 1, 2011 @ 12:17 pm
Shon Hampton gets my vote. Seems more like a song adapted to a theme, not a “theme song” per say, if that makes any sense. The others sound just a little too … “jingly.”

April 1, 2011 @ 2:46 pm
I think Shon Hampton’s version is great, but I would have had more respect for it had he not used Waylons name. I automaticaly thought “Waylon” when I heard the tune & style…(and I like it a whole fuckin’ lot) but, I just kinda feel like it’s “unauthorized”…and maybe cheating?

It feels stupid. You notice you don’t see my face around here. That’s because it’s not about me, it’s about the music, but in this instance, a little branding is necessary. Hopefully it won’t go to my head.

Shon Hampton all the way. His voice “IS” without question true country music.
