See Kimmi Bitter on Her 2024 Tour

There are a lot of folks kicking themselves these days that they didn’t take advantage of opportunities to see some of the biggest artists in independent country music when they could catch them in smaller venues. Now that we’re seeing so many performers graduating from clubs, to theaters, to amphitheaters, to arenas, and even some to stadiums, it underscores why you should see your favorite artists in smaller venues while you can.
Throwback country artist Kimmi Bitter has become one of the most buzzed about artists in 2024 behind her excellent new album Old School. If you’ve been waiting for the second coming of Patsy Cline, Kimmi Bitter is your gal, and she’s hitting the road for the first time with a full band (The Westside Twang) behind her.
This will be your opportunity to see Kimmi & Co. in some of the coolest spots in the country like The Mercury Lounge in Tulsa, Sagebrush in Austin, Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California, and Mississippi Studios in Portland.
For now, her 2024 tour dates are centered around the Western United States, Texas, and the Breadbasket. But don’t worry, Kimmi is a road warrior and is likely to be heading east in 2024 as well. Don’t pass up the opportunity to gets bragging rights of “I saw her when…” as the rest of the world wakes up to what Kimmi Bitter is throwing down.

Love Kimmi’s voice.
Thinking Daniele, in Italy, will love this video.
Has a bit of a Spaghetti Western feel to it.

she’s the Wes Anderson of Country music. She has the talent and looks to be a more successful artist in country music along the lines of a Harper O’Neil, but she’ll be happy to just tour and sell records to hipsters who look the Flying Burrito Brothers with ironic tattoos of Black Cat firecracker logos.

Lots of commentary on image here, and none about sound.
My guess is Kimmi Bitter wants to get her music in front of as many people as possible, but wants to do so in a way that allows her to remain in control and to be self-made. I wouldn’t take that as a sign of wanting exclusivity.

I like her sound and think she’s very talented. But, she has social media accounts for a reason. Image matters. “every picture tells a story” her whole Instagram account looks like a scene out of the film Asteroid City.

Obviously with OLD SCHOOL, Kimmi is probably what Patsy Cline might have sounded like had she been recording in Southern California in the early 1960’s (note that Kimmi is a coastal San Diego County native). But I think she is more than smart enough to know that Patsy is irreplacable; and in any case, to call anyone the Second Coming of anything is, how shall we say, a bit of a steep climb even on the best day.
And there’s probably even more to Kimmi’s idea of what Old School is–like, say, Elvis; the San Francisco Sound of the late 1960’s; and the Laurel Canyon scene of the early 1970’s. Stay tuned.

Album is #1 in the on the way to work morning rotation in the Jeep. I know you’ll get here eventually, so I’ll be patient as long as you put up a live video or 2 from the road?

The site Lonesome Highway has a Kimmi Bitter interview. She specifically credits Trigger and SCM for launching her recent success. She said that her My Grass is Blue album had maybe 50 streams total, until Trigger discovered it and ran an article, and ever since she’s been blowing up substantially. Pretty good compliment Trig.

I think she has a great voice and think her songs are great, no fluff, plenty of steel. To me she looks real, not made up, so authentic. Wishing her good luck and if she comes up my way will definitely go see her!

Standard country burger with real cheese. She doesn’t ride the horse. The hipster in the video is skewered, fine, but end the video with a real cowboy. Some clever lines. I love her voice and think she could deliver. Ask her to sing some torch songs like Hank Cochran’s “Don’t Touch Me,” and see how she does. Again, her voice is alluring, but this is pretty close to camp.
How’s that for douchie gatekeeping.

Why are we talking about a video? This article doesn’t even include a video. You don’t have to ask her to cover a torchy song, she’s written numerous ones of her own. Go listen to “I Can’t Unlove You” or “My Grass Is Blue.”
More evidence many folks want country music to be ugly and unpopular. Otherwise, it can’t be good.

Comments had a link, and video is king. I’ll go listen to the torch, and I have zero issues with beauty.
We want to see country people making country music, but with enough love, suburban types can make it, too. We should accept Zeph, Sam O, and others. I do.
But we’ve been burned, Trig. We have trust issues. A lot of powerful people want us to FOAD. This is what drove Honky, I think.
And we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t believe you cared.

Video is king? What decade are you living in oldster? I go line dancing three times a week with plenty of 20-somethings and 30-somethings.
No one gives a shit about country music videos lol

I don’t watch videos, either.
People, especially young people, don’t read. They watch videos, and if you’re Gen Z, you watch a lot of them.
You’re as old as you feel.

Look, this is competent. She is learning from the greats. I think there are things that can improve it. One, the tempo should be faster. Two, get rid of the click and play it with a drummer who can swing with minimal kit. Three, the piano is too busy; think more like Floyd Cramer. Four, the singer doesn’t sound desperate enough for the lyric and style. Dial up the reverb but make sure there’s a predelay. Five, hire an engineer who can nail the Willie Nelson “And Then I Wrote” sound. This track sounds too digital.
There’s a lot to like. Her voice. The BGVs, which are on point and well-arranged. The changes are good, but there are opportunities to tweak the harmony to make it less vanilla in certain spots so that the lyric can be reinforced.
I’m no expert, but it seems to me that journeyman music like hers needs to be supported and nurtured, not stifled. In the past, the studios knew how to apply twists to make these sounds unique. Young artists should copy to learn, not replicate for money. Everyone can see through cosplay. If you’re going to be a retro star that escapes the collective yawn, you have to find a way of tweaking or exceeding the past.
It’s difficult to do, but that’s how traditions don’t just persist, but grow.
