Sierra Ferrell Announces New Album “Trail of Flowers”

Saving Country Music’s reigning Artist of the Year Sierra Ferrell has finally divulged the details for what will be one of the most anticipated releases of 2024. Arriving on March 22nd via Rounder Records, her latest album will be called Trail of Flowers, and will find the West Virginia songwriter and superlative live performer taking listeners on a fantastic journey through the familiar and surreal as she takes Appalachian music and instills it with a thrust of mirth and mystery.
“With ‘Trail of Flowers,’ I wanted to make a fuller sound with bigger drums, but still stay true to the stripped-down feel of old-time music whenever it felt right,” says Ferrell. “I wanted to create something that makes people feel nostalgic for the past, but excited about the future of music.”
Like her previous album, 2021’s Long Time Coming, the new album was produced by Gary Paczosa, who is joined this time in the producer roll by Eddie Spear. Guests on the album include Nikki Lane, Lukas Nelson, Chris Scruggs, and Kristen Rogers. Nikki Lane and Kristen Rogers can be heard singing harmonies in the new song just released from the album called “Dollar Bill Bar” (listen below).

“I’m just trying to put words and melodies together and build it into something people can pour their feelings into, all their happiness and sorrows, so that it changes their reality a little bit and gives them some comfort,” Ferrell continues. “To me music is like medicine. Whenever I write a song and it feels healing to me, I know it can heal other people too.”
Sierra Ferrell will have plenty of big opportunities to promote the new album in the coming year. On Thursday evening (1-18), she will be making her network television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Along with her own headlining dates in 2024 at places like The Ryman Auditorium and Webster Hall in New York that have already sold out, Ferrell will also be opening select stadium shows for Zach Bryan, who she paired with on the song “Holy Roller” that rocketed to #17 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Though seeing Sierra Ferrell live is the best way to experience the magic she conjures through music, hopefully Trail of Flowers will continue Ferrell’s momentum that has ensconced her as as headliner in independent country. Another track from the album called “Fox Hunt,” was released in October.

Awesome news! I’ve been playing “Dollar Bill Bar” on repeat all morning, but missed the announcement of a new album. The two tracks released so far are both home runs and it would be hard to mess up “I Could Drive You Crazy,” “Why Haven’t You Loved Me Yet,” and “Rosemary.” If the rest of the album is on that level, this could be an album of the year contender for sure. Definitely my most anticipated, along with whatever the Red Clay Strays have cooking.

Can’t wait. One of my most anticipated releases of the year.

I figured this would be announced last month. This will end up being album of the year on many year end lists when all is said and done. I think she’ll propel her stardom after this release.

Cannot wait for new tunes from SF! Bummed I missed the signed copies of the album. Did anyone get lucky? They were gone within 10 minutes.

: D Get it, Sierra!
When she sang Dollar Bill Bar, instantly smiled & was transported to the Little Missouri Saloon, in Medora, North Dakota.
In ’17, we signed, and hung a dollar bill in that saloon.
Sits right outside of Teddy Roosevelt National Park.
What a blast of a trip that was.
Agree with Bill Goodman.
Think this album is going to propel Sierra to the Stratosphere

Agreed, hearing her is one thing but in person she is on a whole other plane of existence and is amazing

Same day as the Cody Jinks release and Joe Stamm acoustic set in La Crosse. Should be a good day

Do we know if it’s her (awesome) touring band on the new recordings or not?
January 18, 2024 @ 4:57 pm
She makes me think of a Country “Madonna” with her big personality, outlandish costumes and such. Don’t get me wrong, Country Music needs people like her. I hope she tours South Florida someday!

Chittlin’ Cookin’ Time in Cheatham County is a better name than ‘snackin’ on assholes with Upchurch’

“I wanted to create something that makes people feel nostalgic for the past, but excited about the future of music.”
She did just that. Dollar Bill Bar is a great tune, well sung, and well written. Clearly about trying to find love but falling short, but written in a creative and different way… not just a list. Love it. Any idea if she wrote it all herself, Trigger? Or was it a collaboration type effort? Regardless, really have a feeling this album will take off. Happy to see her in Del Mar before she gets any bigger.

“Dollar Bill Bar” was co-written with Melody Walker.
I have yet to see the full credits on this album, so I’m not 100% sure on co-writers or the players on the album just yet.

Thanks for the reply. I suppose not everyone can be a songwriter and singer— Jesus Was A Drag Queen (by Melody) is a fun song that I wouldn’t have heard without this info, so thank you!

I thought Fox Hunt was supposed to be a soundtrack song separate from the album, but I see it makes an appearance here. I honestly didn’t care for the over the top production on the song, so it’s reassuring that Dollar Bill Bar is more subdued. I definitely like it much better than Fox Hunt. However, despite the same producer, this album looks to be going in a different direction than her previous releases. Dollar Bill Bar is probably the most straight country song Sierra has released.
I’m very interested in what the rest of this album will sound like.

I’d like to know more about Bobbi Rich and that artwork.

I liked Fox Hunt and I do like the Dollar Bill Song. Another release to look forward to.

Her upcoming show in Milwaukee had to move to a venue twice as large because demand is so high.
