Sierra Ferrell Gets Big Opportunity on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Sierra Ferrell is a sensational artists for representing country and Appalachian roots music on a national stage, and that’s exactly what she got to do Saturday, February 28th on Saturday Night Live. Mumford & Sons were the official musical guests, but they used their opportunity to showcase some of their friends, along with selections from their new album Prizefighter.
When 4-time Grammy winner Sierra Ferrell announced she would be going on tour with Mumford & Sons yet again in 2026, some scratched their heads. Ferrell’s big enough now where she’s headlining festivals, and can fill her own rooms to capacity in big theaters, which she does when not on opening shows. But according to folks close to Sierra, she loves the Mumford opening spot. It allows her to play for arena crowds, and the band has been more than accommodating to her.
That friendship was underscored when they brought her out to sing “Here.” Aaron Dessner of The National also was a guest on the song. Unfortunately, neither the announcer nor the band shouted Sierra Ferrell out by name during the performance, but fans quickly took to social media to find out who the lady in the dress was as established fans professed their happiness to see Sierra Ferrell make her SNL debut.
The next question is when will Sierra Ferrell will get to return to showcase her own music on the show? She might have to wait for a new album. But at least now SNL is familiar with her.
Unfortunately, Sierra Ferrell’s appearance got a little bit lost in the shuffle since it came in the aftermath of the United States attacking Iran and the news cycle being dominated by that development. But make no mistake about it, whether live or watching later on YouTube or clips on social media, many folks found out who Sierra Ferrell was on Saturday night, and they won’t soon forget.
Go Sierra!

There is a “yes, Sierra” at 1:07 when Marcus turns it over for her verse.

On the mumford album this song is sang with chris Stapleton instead of sierrra. We saw mumford in the uk jist before christmas and sierra opened for them and came back and performed Here with them. I do like mumford and sons but sierra Ferrell blew them away. She also performed a new song sp a new album shouldnt be far away

I can’t help but grin at Sierra’s outlandish stage apparel! Kinda reminds of Dolly’s outlandish hair back in the day. I hope she can keep up her career momentum. She’s a gem!

I suppose the advantage is exposure to a new audience and that might help her win more fans? I have enjoyed her albums and watched a show of her on YouTube. She certainly likes to dress up! She is a very talented and entertaining performer. I just hope I get the opportunity to see her perform at some stage. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mumford & Sons as well. Their new album is pretty good.

Love more eyes on Sierra Ferrell. I’m of the opinion that everything she touches turns to gold.
Also checked out Nath Evans Fox. Seems to operate somewhere around alt country to Appalachian indie folk. He’s got 3 songs out off his upcoming album, and damn, dude can write a song.

YES!!!!! Thank you for the suggestion. Those tunes kill! If the rest of the album is anything like that, it will be album of the year.

Sierra Ferrell appears to always be playing. Touring with people she enjoys making music with would seem to hold value to her.

That was a nice surprise! 🙂 Lovely performance, and I dug her Loretta Lynn look in that gown.

Sierra is a national treasure. I could stare and listen to her endlessly.

Sierra shouldn’t have truck with these limey clowns.

For the short term it’s a smart move; she’s getting exposure that is expanding her fan base. And unlike some, on a personal level they don’t seem to act like a-holes to her when she tours with them.

Does anybody watch SNL anymore?

SNL is one of the few remaining network television shows that can still confer some cultural cachet, even if its in clips posted on social media. The other is CBS Sunday Morning. Obviously, it’s not as big as it once was, but it’s still much bigger than the weeknight talk shows.

An incredible amount of SNL viewers are a day or two later on YouTube. The show is very culturally relevant in so many ways.

Sierra is the real deal. Just last night I fell down a rabbit hole watching old Sierra Ferrell clips on You Tube from 5 to 15 years ago. So much great stuff.

The host thanked her by name at the end. She had a surprised yet happy look on her face
