The 2022 Country Music Christmas Playlist
There’s just something about country music and Christmas music that go together so well. The only thing that sounds more appropriate in a Christmas song than sleigh bells is steel guitar. Country music and Christmas music are both about evoking fond memories, and reminding us of home.
Below is the 2022 Saving Country Music Christmas Playlist. It is country. It is good. It is all new recordings of both classics and original songs released in 2022, delicately curated to remove anything that is too syrupy, too pop, or not cool. All the songs have been expertly arranged to be listened to consecutively.
Each year the Christmas playlist is a great opportunity to showcase artists who deserve more attention in country music, and artists who we otherwise may not talk about. We can always count on Randall King to deliver a cool original Christmas song each year. Hailey Whitters has turned in a couple of the best Christmas tracks of the season. And they both symbolize the promise of country’s future.
Chris Canterbury’s Quaalude Lullabies has been an album many have been raving about, and his cover of John Prine’s “Christmas in Prison” makes for a good introduction, as does Grant Maloy Smith’s original song “All On Christmas Day.”
You also need a little humor in your playlist, like we get with the Old 97’s cuts from the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, or Bianca De Leon’s “Turducken,” or Wild Earp’s “The Krampus Song.” There’s few things worse than a Christmas playlist that’s too slick, or takes itself too seriously.
And what’s also great about country Christmas music is that it allows the roots of artists to come out, because country Christmas songs just beg for steel guitar and twang. O.N.E. The Duo is a great vocal group that flirts with traditional country. But with their Christmas songs, the country in their sound comes right to the forefront.
This has been a very light year for new country Christmas albums. Perhaps due to the pandemic, there were 30+ original Christmas albums released in 2021. This year, it’s just a smattering of EPs and re-releases, but you can find a glossary of them beneath the playlist. And if you want more where this came from, check out the 2021 Christmas Playlist, and the 2020 Christmas Playlist as well.
The 2022 Christmas Country Playlist is available on Spotify, on Amazon Music, and on YouTube. You can find respective players below, and a list of all the songs included below that.

He may have been old like Deddy/but he squealed like Ned Beatty
Hopefully the 2023 list will feature a song I heard at the bar last night called “Let’s (Christmas noise) Santa Claus” by a band called Steel Woodsmen. The song is about a couple (Christmas noising) Santa due to Santa walking in while the couple were having sex which caused Santa to throw a tantrum and have the couple respond by Christmas noising him. It’s a song that’s both humorous and disturbing

Another Great Christmas single that just dropped is Ben James “Christmas in Dixie”. He is the young tenor singer with the great voice that’s in Dailey & Vincent. It’s just came out like 3 days ago.

That song is from a compilation called “A RBR Family Christmas” that has a bunch of good Christmas bluegrass stuff on it that I’m just now finding. Looks like they were trying to keep it a secret because it has no spins on it, but it’s great stuff. Also added a Tommy Buller song from it on the playlist.

Yep sure is I picked up the actual CD Friday from Ben at the D&V concert and was able to get the video of it for YouTube. Yea The promotion for it was quiet with the only social media post being on IG with limited followers and 1 YouTube interview talking about it. Ben’s only other song (teardrops in Tennessee) on Spotify only has 3k views and Jamie’s said it went #1 in bluegrass.

Yep I picked up my copy of the CD from Ben at the D&V concert over the weekend. I think it had just came the a few days ago. They weren’t much promotion of it and don’t seem to have a big social media presence. I had accidentally came across it on a YouTube interview. I got to hear him sing it Friday’s and grab the video and like always he nailed it.
Also is there a way to save my username /email so I don’t have to type it in every time ?

Your browser should be doing that for you unless you’ve told it not to, or you have a VPN or something scrambling your IP address. Make sure you’re using the same username and email address each time, and it should remember it.

Not a fan of Christmas songs at all (one exception below) and was scrolling through the playlist with little to no excitement. I get email updates from the Hellroys so that’s the only song I’ve heard on the list. I can’t wait for their next album to come out. The only Christmas movie/music I get excited for each season is Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. We watch that every year. I got my wife the dvd several years ago (previously we would borrow her dad’s copy or watch it over at her parents house with the niece and nephew) and she got me the vinyl soundtrack last year. My little Grinch heart loves that movie and music for whatever reason.
