Under The Big Sky Fest Announces Massive 2024 Lineup

Now celebrating five years, Under The Big Sky Fest in Whitefish, Montana isn’t just one of independent country’s biggest mega festivals, it’s also the most established. Featuring three days of top tier performances along with many opportunities for discovery, Under The Big Sky has become an annual pilgrimage for some, with crowds swelling to some 20,000 people in a picturesque setting that includes a creek and a train track running through the grounds, back dropped by the Montana mountains.
The 2024 lineup set to go off on July 12-14 does not disappoint, with Under The Big Sky landing a massive fish in bluegrass maestro Billy Strings. Selling out arenas left and right these days, Strings has outgrown a lot of festival lineups. But Under The Big Sky is big enough to make it happen. Strings played the festival a few years ago as well on his way up the ranks.
The other headliners include the Turnpike Troubadours, who appeared at Under The Big Sky during their triumphant return in 2022, and Miranda Lambert, who despite being more of a mainstream star, fits well with the Under The Big Sky approach. Good thing Turnpike and Lambert are headlining on different days due to the two having … well, a history.
The undercard includes a who’s who of independent country talent, including Charles Wesley Godwin, Sierra Ferrell, Kaitlin Butts, songwriter Pony Bradshaw, Under The Big Sky favorite Paul Cauthen, and rising up-and-comers The Castellows and Zach Top. Brothers Osborne will be there representing the mainstream for a second time, and Mt. Joy will be the one indie rock outfit that usually makes the lineup.
Another great feature of Under The Big Sky is how they showcase local and regional music as well. This year this includes Archertown, Badger Hound, Tomara, Miller Campbell, Michelle Rivers and Hannah King, Abby Webster and Madeline Hawthorne, and the nationally touring bluegrass band The Lil Smokies.
Just 30 miles from the Canadian border and Glacier National Park, Under The Big Sky Fest is not easy to get to or cheap to stay at. But it’s a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience in one of the most picturesque locations, while offering a lineup of many of the best independent country artists assembled all year.

I nearly bankrupted myself getting up there from my home in Mexico City last year.
And dang it, looks like I’m gonna have to do it all over again.

Kind of funny to see Miranda Lambert on the lineup. Looking at the dates, this will be towards the end of the Rock the Country Tour. I wonder how different the environment will be. Maybe not too different as there’s some cross-over in both lineups, but there’s definitely a difference between the Billy Strings/Sierra Ferrell fans and Kid Rock/Jason Aldean fans.
December 4, 2023 @ 12:39 pm
she’s only playing that KR festival once before this in April because it’s a rotating lineup.
December 4, 2023 @ 1:32 pm
Ah, I figured she’d be at each location. Not each day, but each location. It looks like it is just Kid Rock and Jason Aldean that will play all locations.

Dallas Green (City and Colour) is an interesting pick. That takes me back to the Lumineer and Mumford days. Haven’t kept up with any of his new music.
December 4, 2023 @ 1:19 pm
Thankfully, Miranda and Turnpike are scheduled for different days because I don’t know if I could take another hiatus.
December 4, 2023 @ 1:21 pm
Wow, great to see Sarah Shook & the Disarmers on there too.
December 4, 2023 @ 3:08 pm
Is that Miller Campbell the granddaughter of Glen Campbell?
December 4, 2023 @ 3:11 pm
Trigger, did you just roll right past Tanya Tucker without even a mention?
December 4, 2023 @ 4:05 pm
It looks like Tanya Tucker was a last minute addition, because the info I got didn’t have her on there initially. Just added her up top. Tanya is GREAT live. Reminds me a lot of Billy Joe Shaver. Kicks ass on stage well into old age.
December 4, 2023 @ 11:48 pm
65 is “old age”? That explains everything.
December 5, 2023 @ 6:47 am
LOL…… I didn’t wanna say anything Phil, and yes, I had to Google her age to find out she’s a whole year and a half older than me. Most on here know I just turned 63. I think what Trig meant to say is like Toby and myself not letting the old man in. Tanya is not letting the old woman in, she still brings it every night, and is worthy of being near the top of this or any line up. I saw her here at Joe’s Live in 2019 and she was incredible!

I have been nothing but complimentary and extremely supportive of Tanya Tucker over the years, including screaming my guts out until the Country Music Hall of Fame put her in. But I guess some people just want me to be insulting to her. And yes, 65 is old. I’m 20 years younger, and consider myself old.
December 5, 2023 @ 9:00 am
I guess it’s all relative.
Graduated with Nuc. degree at 50.
Sat and passed the NMTCB, for license at 50.
Ran the Nuc. dept. at a ranching hospital, panhandle of Oklahoma for 10 years.
Loved every second. Didn’t let all the bullshit hospital politics get in the way.
Had patients referred and sent from N. Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, and W. Texas.
We. Tore. It. Up.
Will be 67 in May.
Currently wondering what to focus on next.
In the meantime, out here really enjoying life, and family, and friends.
Not the least of which is doing a little traipsing around, chasing after some of the good music recommended on this site.
Today, trying to decide if want to sit in the rafters to see Tanya Tucker tomorrow night.
Tickets from her previously cancelled show are being honored tomorrow.

65 is old age.
What is with this obsession over eternal youth? It ruined mainstream country music.
December 6, 2023 @ 4:28 pm
: D grabbed a ticket to see Tanya, a few minutes ago.
Was a very near thing.
Was at the ticket window at the venue, and the 1st 2 tickets sold right out from under.
Ended up in the balcony, center section just a couple rows back.
There really isn’t a bad seat in the house.
Will let you know how the show was.

Oh My Good Lord in Heaven, where to start?
Wow, Tanya KILLED it – Right out of the gate …
HUGE RESPECT for MISS TANYA. H U G E …
Am darn near speechless.
HUGE RESPECT FOR YOU, TRIG.
FOR SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS – AND NOT STOPPING UNTIL MISS TANYA WAS INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME.
You get 100 brownie points for that one.
Want to research and get names correctly, before further commenting on tonight’s concert.
Have a lot to say

If you get tickets to this go see Paul Cauthen. Even if you don’t particularly like his music or haven’t heard many of his songs. He puts on such a great show, his voice is made for live shows and his band is killer.
