Wanda Jackson’s ‘Unfinished Business’ Produced by Townes Earle
In an unexpected nugget of news that has my music pants going crazy, The Rolling Stone has just announced that Wanda Jackson will be releasing a new album entitled Unfinished Business on October 9th, and that the album’s producer will be none other than Saving Country Music’s 2011 Artist of the Year Justin Townes Earle.
“I’ve had a wonderful time working with Wanda and creating this new record,” Earle says in the video below. “Hopefully everyboy’s going to enjoy it…well I know they will. They don’t really have a choice, do they?”
This will be Wanda Jackson’s 31st studio album and will be released on Sugar Hill Records. Wanda will turn 75 two weeks after Unfinished Business will be released, yet she’s showing no signs of slowing down. She released The Party Ain’t Over in early 2011 with another famous artist/producer in Jack White.
“From day one I really liked Justin’s idea to take me back to my roots and make a record of country, blues, and rockabilly songs,” Jackson told Rolling Stone. “The band was extra tight and great to work with during the whole process. The record just sounds terrific and I’m hoping that my fans enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

What I love most about that video is seeing JTE looking so genuinely happy! Hope he’s doing well in his recovery. Also, I wonder how Jack White feels about JTE producing Wanda’s new album?

JTE does look happy and healthy. I don’t think there’s any drama to worry about with Jack. These “celebrity” producer roles are usually one-off gigs. I like Jack White and I like Jack White as a producer, but I was pretty open about not liking what he did with Wanda on “The Party Ain’t Over”. He buried her voice and had way too much sound. Very curious to see what skills JTE the producer has.

Does JTE produce his own records?

..his last two albums he did.

Didn’t T-Bone produce Harlem River Blues?

I don;t think T Bone’s ever produced Justin.

I guess I should have checked my CD. I really thought T-Bone produced that one, for some reason.

T-Bone produced Steve’s last album, which might account for the confusion.
I lent out my JTE CDs but am pretty sure R.S. Field produced the first two, or at least the first.
This project seems like a great match-up, though I hate to say that her voice has really weakened. Seems to show more on some songs than on others. Also, I find it interesting that most of the songs are relatively recent.

The last time JTE relapsed he was sporting the same scruffy face look. I doubt that’s the case here but I just wanted to point that out.

I was very happy to see this today myself and I am looking forward to it.. On a another note that looks like another Joshua Black Wilkins video.. I dig that dude’s work. Would be cool to chat with that fella one of these days..

Also was that Skylar Wilson I saw in the video who also co-produced JTE’s latest album?

I can’t say I have a clear sense of what Skylar Wilson looks like. Google wasn’t much help.

Just watched the Nothing’s Gonna Change…… Video.. It is him.. same drummer too.. pretty cool.. http://youtu.be/SaTX_MjuS1Y

Pretty sure it is Skylar- he also has helped with JTE’s arrangements and does most of the keyboards. Don’t think he likes to tour, though, and mostly does sessions work.

Saw this in my email today and was super excited. Also saw that he is coming to my area so I can finally see him live.
I also agree with you Trig on the Jack White production. He absolutely buried her voice behind his wall of guitar sound.
