Willie Nelson Feeling Better After Canceled Show – Details Offered on Rescheduled Date
Live promoter Blackbird Presents has rescheduled the Willie Nelson performance in Charlotte, North Carolina that was originally slotted to occur on Saturday, May 26th at the PNC Music Pavilion. The new date will be Wednesday, June 20th at the PNC Pavilion once again. At the moment there are no openers or other acts scheduled for the show. Ticketholders have been told to hold on to their original tickets. No exchanges will be necessary.
As for anyone looking for a refund, Blackbird Presents tells Saving Country Music, “Ticket holders can contact a representative at their point of purchase for details. Because of the many options to purchase tickets we cannot speak to individual policies.”
As for Willie’s health, Willie’s representatives say, “Willie is in good health and plans to resume his previously scheduled tour…”
Willie Nelson canceled his original performance Saturday night after suffering from a stomach bug. The performance was part of the serial festival called the Outlaw Music Fest, which Willie was slotted to headline. The Wild Feathers and Mitchell Lee opened the night, then Old Crow Medicine Show and Sturgill Simpson also performed. Some fans became angry after Willie Nelson walked out on stage 45 minutes after his original start time, only to toss his hat out in the crowd and saunter off. It wasn’t for another hour until concertgoers were informed the performance had been canceled.
Brandi Carlile and Elvis Costello were also originally scheduled to play in Charlotte, but canceled as well. Costello canceled on April 5th after deciding to undergo a non life-threatening surgical procedure, and Brandi Carlile canceled to deal with an unexpected family obligation overseas.
Another date on the Outlaw Music Fest tour for Sunday, May 27th at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA was canceled completely. However both Sturgill Simpson and Willie Nelson played The Anthem in Washington, D.C. that night. Reviews of Willie’s performance the day after his cancellation were positive, and concertgoers said he appeared to be in good health.
As for the other upcoming Outlaw Fest tour dates, Blackbird Presents assures, “The remaining dates for the tour are all going strong and we are excited to be back on the road with Willie and his family and friends in June!” More information and all updated lineups can be found at www.BlackbirdPresents.com/outlaw-music-festival.

Just look back at the other two recent articles on this topic – at all the mud thrown Willie’s way. Now that it’s been rescheduled and refunds offered, what are all the naysayers gonna bitch about now?! Way to go Willie – “On The Road Again”!

“what are all the naysayers gonna bitch about now?”
Well, they didn’t get their participation trophy, for starters. And let’s not overlook all of the unrecoverable dog grooming fees, because they couldn’t drop Winne the Poodle off at the boarding park looking all a mess…
“He only threw one damn hat, cheap old goat, wth?”

There was never a possibility that patrons were not going to get a rescheduled date or the offer of a refund. LiveNation said as much as soon as Willie officially canceled. I remain stupefied why folks thought this was even a possibility. And yes, it sucks that the new date is on a Wednesday, and if you’re coming from out-of-town this doesn’t help. But this is the risk you always take purchasing a ticket, and these types of cancellations happen all the time.
The promoters could have done a better job communicating about this event, and fans deserve to be frustrated. But the anger flowing toward Willie over this is something I’ve never seen. I guess it’s just a symptom of 2018, and everyone’s geeked up to be mad at someone else.

We saw him the night before in Raleigh and something was definitely wrong. Very breathy and he seemed like he rushed songs to get through. We believed he wasn’t feeling great and the following night proved it. He’s 85 and they scheduled him 3 nights in a row. I imagine he wasn’t feeling great back stage and probably took a little medicine for it. After that, he probably thought he was fine and when he went on stage and figured he wasn’t, he was probably pissed.
Similar experience for us, since we’re not 85 years old, is going into the bathroom for a sit, for a long length of time and then as soon as you leave the bathroom, you realize you aren’t quite finished.
He’s 85, cut him some slack

To those who were there …. did OCMS and Sturgill do longer sets?
Joe
May 31, 2018 @ 1:31 pm
No. Even Willie’s band seemed a bit surprised when he walked off, so their sets were long over with.

I’m glad he’s all good and it’s back on. I’m suspect Willie’s sheer willpower played a significant role in it getting turned around so quick.
We can only hope Blackbird has learned some lessons and gets its shit together before their next attempt.
I’m also curious about the “Special Guests” mentioned in the press release. BandsInTown moved the whole ticket to 6/20, but I’m rather certain 5 bands won’t be playing in 3 hours time before curfew.

glad he is feeling better! also glad i stood beside Willie while fair-weather fans acted like complete dolts over the ordeal. Ever had a bad stomach bug? If you are anything like me and have experienced one, you feel that even opening your mouth (let alone give a long explanation for what’s wrong) or even turning around to look at something will make you puke. tossing his hat to the crowd was very possibly the only thing he COULD do before walking off stage to vomit. again, glad our hero is feeling better! Go get em, Willie! Thanks for the update, Trigger!????

We’ve recently lost a few of the other truly great icons, and I can’t fathom loosing another , especially the caliber of Willie. I don’t care how many shows he cancels , for whatever reason , I just hope and pray we don’t lose him for a LONG time !

What’s the deal cancelling one 5/27 show only to play with with Sturgill in DC that night?
A few years back I had
Trigger
June 3, 2018 @ 9:12 am
I don’t know. I asked Blackbird Presents about that specifically, and they just said they decided to cancel the date. My guess is Willie and Sturgill still played because the cancellation created a hole in their tour schedule and they were planning to be in DC anyway. Blackbird went out of their way to emphasize to be the DC date was not promoted by them, and was not part of Outlaw Fest.

I live near DC and didn’t see an ad for the Anthem show until 3-4 weeks beforehand, and tix went on sale just a few days later. Definitely seemed to have been inserted into the schedule at the last minute (relatively speaking).
I saw the DC show. I couldn’t stand Sturgill’s set, and don’t really get the hype about him in general. Willie was truly mind-blowing on guitar, simply phenomenal. A lot of the vocals were spoken, but his delivery was thrilling anyway. A great opportunity to see Willie again and, importantly (to me), my kids’ first time.

You also got to see Willie in a much more intimate setting than most get to these days, especially outside of Texas.

A few years back I had a chance to see George Jones. Knowing the history, and he had been ailing, we didn’t pull the trigger. Show got cancelled.
Buyer beware.
