Wyatt Flores Plays Surprise Show with Evan Honer After Fest Rain Out

It’s often when adversity hits that some of the most memorable moments in music happen. On Saturday (4-18) at the Two Step Inn festival in Georgetown, TX, heavy lightning and a deluge washed out the second half of performances set to transpire in the afternoon and evening. Wyatt Flores was scheduled to be one of the big acts to perform right before headliners Brooks & Dunn, but never got that opportunity.

So an audible was called. Wyatt didn’t want to leave the Austin area without playing for his most dedicated fans. So his booking agent rang up Sagebrush on South Congress and talent buyer Chasen Wayne, and asked if Wyatt could be squeezed in. Since it was a Saturday night, there was already a full slate of talent. But Sagebrush performers Christopher Seymore, Hayden Butler, and JD Clark all decided to be good sports, sacrifice a bit of their own time, and cede the stage to this surging talent from Oklahoma.

But that’s not all that patrons who trekked down to Sagebrush got. Wyatt announced the show at Sagebrush last minute on social media, but fellow Two Step Inn performer Evan Honer joined him in what ended up being an epic song swap for the appreciative folks who packed into Sagebrush to see it.

Wyatt Flores and Evan Honer started off by performing Jason Isbell’s “Vampires” in a pretty epic duet. Some of the other songs performed were Wyatt’s “We’re Gonna Die,” “Break My Bones,” and his version of “How To Save a Life.” Evan Honer took the lead on his song “Everything I Wanted,” and a version of “Bus Route” by Tyler Childers.

The pop up show was reminiscent to when Ryan Bingham got rained out at Two Step Inn in 2024, and ended up playing a show at C-Boys in Austin. Zach Bryan also played a surprise show at Sagebrush after shooting the video for his song “Nine Ball.”

Earlier in the day at the Two Step Inn before the rain, Wyatt Flores had also come out to sing with Evan Honer on Honer’s song “Take Me As I Come” (see video).

There was a little bit of irony to these two guys coming down from the Two Step Inn festival to perform at Sagebrush where three guys who perform specifically for two-steppers already had an audience assembled. The dance floor got crowded out with Wyatt Flores fans, making two-stepping only possible along the margins. Meanwhile at the Two Step Inn, really none of the Saturday acts that performed were actually conducive to two-stepping, despite the fest offering classes and outdoor dances floors across the grounds.

But the #1 rule of the two-step dance floor is to be neighborly to everyone else, and be willing to give a little space so that everyone can participate. That’s what the performers and the patrons did at Sagebrush Saturday night, and Wyatt Flores did get to perform in Austin, however stripped down. And the folks who were there to witness it won’t soon forget it, even as Wyatt and Evan Honer continue to put themselves out of touch with being able to perform at more intimate venues.
