Billy Strings Adds Red Rocks Dates, Livestream Shows
In yet another sign that Billy Strings is launching into the stratosphere, for the first time he will be headlining the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, and not just for one date, but for two. On Thursday, May 12th, and Friday, May 13th, Billy Strings will hold court from the Red Rocks stage in what will surely be sought after tickets, and on the two days before the Turnpike Troubadours will play their own two-day Red Rocks residency.
If you’re thinking, “Wait, haven’t I seen Billy Strings at Red Rocks before?” You very well may have. It’s not that Billy hasn’t played Red Rocks heretofore. He shared the stage with Greensky Bluegrass there in 2019, and then in September of 2020, Strings played a monster 3-set performance from the Red Rocks stage. However, it was during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there wasn’t a soul in the stands, only a film crew there to stream the event. This will be the first time actual fans will be in attendance for a headlining show.
Speaking of livestreams, Billy has also just announced he will be offering livestreams of his upcoming four-night residency at the Capitol Theater in New York February 3-6 which he’s dubbing, “Deja Tu: The Return to the ESP Experiment.” Tickets are available at live.fans. They’re not especially cheap ($19.99 a pop), but is a fair alternative for folks who can’t be there in person, but need their Strings fix. Besides, Billy is one of the few artists whose livestreams are worth the hassle. And of course, Strings will be accompanied by his amazing band of banjoist Billy Failing, bassist Royal Masat, and Jarrod Walker on mandolin.
And speaking of pricey tickets, as Turnpike Troubadours fans, Tyler Childers fans, and virtually anyone else who’s tried to secure tickets to Red Rocks over the last couple of years will attest, demand for Billy Strings Red Rocks tickets will be incredibly fierce, while you’ll likely be throwing elbows with scalper bots in the virtual cues as well, and then be rerouted to the reseller marketplace by AXS where you’ll be presented with single tickets in the $600-$700 range. So just understand going in, nothing is certain in securing tickets.
Tickets for Red Rocks go on sale Thursday, February 3rd at 10 a.m. Mountain at AXS.com . Good luck!

The concert announcements in general! I’m going to be broke. Usually there’s a concert season for me that doesn’t start until April-ish, peaks in the summer, and runs to Thanksgiving. I’ve got 49 Winchester, Reba, Marty Stuart, Cole Chaney and Sarah Shook all before May.
It’s been a down couple of years, but between the concerts and album release schedule … music is back!

COVID just struck down my 49 Winchester concert Friday! They had to cancel DC, Pittsburgh, and Charleston due to members in the band testing positive. I blame Mile 0. So music isn’t fully back, yet.

We got 8 for Thursday and 4 for Friday during today’s presale (2 out of 4 of us got through). Going to try for another 4 for Friday.

…multiply that by two since we each were logged into the waiting room on both a phone and computer. Crazy that you have to do that. It really is luck of the draw. I signed in on my computer a few minutes before my phone, but got through on my phone and not my computer. I had both of those signed in before a buddy of mine on his phone and computer, and he got through both before I got through on my phone. Then two others didn’t even get through who had logged in to the waiting room at the same time. Sorry for the rambling, but just wanted to note how random it is.

So there was another presale today and 3 of us were in the waiting room for a half hour on multiple devices. When the time came up, we waited in line and none of us got through. We all tried for Friday’s show today. Completely ridiculous.

He’s been working with Les Claypool of Primus. I’m dying to know what that sounds like.

I just JUST about managed to score tix to see him in San Diego. I’m not even gonna attempt to get the Red Rocks. I have no answers but they have to do something about the bots and the re-sales. I’m sure AXA and Tickemaster’s view is, ‘well, it only hurts fans – we’re all still getting paid’ but it’s a mess.
“Old man yells at cloud” alert – but I remember when you just rang a venue, or went to your local record or instrument store.
