Brent Cobb Wants To Rock on Upcoming Album

Brent Cobb is the smooth pimp back porch swing and sweet tea Southern easy breeze for your ears every time his music tickles the air. It’s hard to get incensed about much when Brent Cobb is serving audio refreshments. But as Saving Country Music recently observed when seeing Cobb perform earlier this year, “You put Brent Cobb on a big stage with an electric band behind him, and that quiet, slow talking, easy going Georgia gentleman turns into a full-tilt Southern rocker cooking with grease.”
On cue, Brent Cobb has announced his new album Ain’t Rocked in a While for July 11th saying, “I feel like sometimes when people come to our shows, there might be a disconnect. People might view me as just a singer-songwriter. You know, sit down and tell ‘em a nice, little Southern story. Sing ‘em a song. And our live show kinda rocks. Sometimes people are taken aback. I want people to have an album of reference.”
Hey, that’s alright by us. Whatever version of Brent Cobb he wants to serve up, we’ll take it. Yes, he’s known as a top flight songwriter, composing tracks for the likes of Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Riley Green, Hailey Whitters, Whiskey Myers, and more. But if he wants to rock, let the boy rock.

Brent Cobb co-produced Ain’t Rocked in a While with Oran Thornton, and it features the members of his touring band, The Fixin’s, as the studio musicians. This includes Len Clark on drums, Matt McDaniel on guitar, and Josh Williams on bass.
“This album is a point of reference. It’s not that I’ve never rocked before. Just ain’t rocked in a while,” says Cobb. “We recorded live straight to tape for this project. Just me and The Fixin’s. But that ain’t nothin’ new either. All my favorites are made that way. All of my own albums, except for one, were also recorded that way. Hope you enjoy.”
Ahead of the new album, Brent Cobb has released the title track (listen below). Ain’t Rocked in a While is now available for pre-order.

Love it. Been in the mood lately for this type of music Mark Morton and Rob Leines has been in the rotation as of late.

Always love some Rob Leines. A little surprised Morton’s album hasn’t received any mention here at SCM considering the who’s who of guest artists on the album is like a run down of artists usually featured here. I thought the album was a mixed bag, with the Cody Jinks featured song Brother, and Come December with Charlie Starr featured on vocals, being the two standouts.
Mark Morton is the lead guitarist for the very loud metal band Lamb Of God for anyone unfamiliar with him.

Mark Morton’s album was featured on the release radar, and his song “Brother” with Cody Jinks was featured in the Top 25 Playlist. It seems like folks are always shocked at what’s NOT covered here. But nobody’s shocked that the same guy can review 122 albums in one year, along with all the other coverage featured here. With an average of 20+ albums coming out every week, not everything is going to get a review. But a lot of stuff gets mentioned and featured otherwise, and a lot of albums do get reviews.

Ok Trigger. I guess this comment came to close on the heels of my comment yesterday lol. Once again, I’m not trying to criticize here. Was simply musing that the Morten release hadn’t received much attention, from you or the comments section, which is a little surprising considering the contributors. I’m not implying you should have highlighted it.
As for the release radar. I read it, buts it’s been a bit, and I can’t remember everyone mentioned. And since I don’t have Spotify, I usually don’t read the playlists. Though I have suggested to people who have Spotify and are looking for good music. So sorry if I missed those mentions.

Saw him perform 4 of these rock songs with The Fixin’s at the inaugural South of Atlanta Fest in Macon this past weekend. Hell of a show.

I’m all for it. Sucker for a good time, as it were.

Looking forward to this one. Saw them open up for Blackberry Smoke a couple of weeks ago and they didn’t feel out of place on the bill at all.
Band is really tight. His drummer is the man too, plays hard as hell. It’s borderline distracting.

I’m excited for this. My introduction to Brent way back was his debut No Place Left to Leave which had a few rockers on it, and Providence Canyon is still my favorite. Brent Cobb is like a Country/Southern Rock Chameleon who can weave his way around the many types of southern music and still keep his identity. One of my favorites who always keeps you interested, and seems to never be far away from my last listen.
The song featured, Ain’t Rocked In Awhile, reminding me of some Sam Morrow or vintage Leroy Powell. Another guy who can who can weave his way around many different southern sounds. Good fun Southern Rock.

His South of Atlanta fest in Macon this past weekend was great. These new songs sounded great live on Sunday as well!

Which album did he not record straight to tape?

Love this. Providence Canyon had a lot of rockers on it and is one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years.
Time for some feeeexins
