EMERGENCY Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#156)

Nobody panic. But we have a situation where it’s necessary to interrupt the regularly scheduled programming and the typical rhythms of Saving Country Music to offer an EMERGENCY update to the Top 25 Playlist, principally to include multiple songs from the white hot new album from the Turnpike Troubadours, The Price of Admission, that is currently setting the country music world on fire.
This might be the band’s big breakout moment, and we just can’t be sitting on our hands here, waiting until after Easter to include some of the songs on the Top 25 Playlist, not to mention some other top songs sitting in the hopper.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
The Wildmans – “Take Me” – This is a very interesting brother and sister duo that just signed to New West Records and will be releasing their album Longtime Friend on July 11. Great vocal performances behind a earthen sound get you excited for what they have in store.
Country Honk – “Round and Round” – This local band out of Cleveland, Ohio has just released a super twangy and tasty debut album called Bad Decision, and “Round and Round” gives you a good indication of the kind of hard country stuff you can sink your teeth into.
Turnpike Troubadours – “Heaven Passing Through” – Single of the Year nominee? It’s definitely a candidate for the best song on the new Turnpike record, with exquisite writing by Felker, and a deep-sinking lyrical hook bolstering the chorus. It’s already the most streamed song from the album.
Turnpike Troubadours – “On The Red River” – Song of the Year nominee? It’s often the hunting songs of Turnpike where they make the deepest impact, with previous songs “The Bird Hunters” and “The Rut” being great examples. But really these hunting songs are about the strength of family bonds, and how the rhythms of life like the onset of hunting season allow the realizations of these bonds to rise to the front of consciousness in emotional moments.
Jenna Paulette – “How To Make a Cowboy Cry” – Jenna Paulette has a way with words when describing the cowboy life and the emotions that come with it. Being a cowboy requires a lot of toughness. But that doesn’t mean they’re cold.
Chasen Wayne – “Sonora” – (Being released on 4/18) Chasen Wayne and The Honky Tonk Machine always figures out how to mine the unexplored territory in country music and take it to cool places. The lead single from Chasen’s upcoming concept album Corpus is no different.
Hailey Whitters – “High On The Hog” – Ahead of her new album Corn Queen on June 6th, Hailey Whitters turns in this super fun country heater about chasing down your dreams and being willing to make compromises to do it.

The emergency additions are well justified!
April 17, 2025 @ 9:36 am
I think Red River is miles better than Heaven.
April 17, 2025 @ 8:00 pm
Heaven Passing Through sounds like they straight up copied Zach Bryan and his 4 -1 -5 -6m chord progression and phrasing.
April 17, 2025 @ 8:31 pm
Zach Bryan will never write a song that good in his life
April 18, 2025 @ 1:41 pm
Where do you think ZB learned to write from? Pretty common knowledge TT is a major influence on him. That song structure is a common one and the only one ZB really excels at. Not hating on ZB…his stuff is catchy and has massive appeal but critically its also just not as refined in nearly every way as Turnpike. Also, I find little similarity with Heaven Passing Through.
Jesse Daniel & CWG dropped a good one too. And Muscadine Bloodline’s album, Tanner Usrey single, Bri Bagwell single, Silverada EP, and Bayker Blankenship with a new single today. Haven’t listened to all of it but lots of material to cover.
April 18, 2025 @ 1:43 pm
Side note: Nikki Lane played over half of here upcoming album at a concert last night. There are a few gut punch good one’s in there. Had her in visceral tears at the end…..written from a deep place.

Trig, thoughts on the new Willi Carlisle song ahead of his new album?
April 17, 2025 @ 12:38 pm
Tons of albums being announced, and singles being released at the moment. Just published two articles yesterday about new albums. Will try to circle around to Willi Carlisle. I do like the new single.
April 17, 2025 @ 10:25 am
Great adds. The Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton albums has some gems. Though all covers.
April 17, 2025 @ 1:26 pm
Billy strings has a new one out?
April 22, 2025 @ 11:16 am
Yes. Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton Live At The American Legion Post 82.
I can’t stop listening to it.
April 17, 2025 @ 10:40 am
Truly shocking how good a song On the Red River is. It reminds me of Music from big pink opening with tears of rage. Unconventional as far as album openers but so powerful
April 17, 2025 @ 10:51 am
I’ll throw in a good word for Weldon Henson’s new one.
April 18, 2025 @ 2:09 pm
Which song/album? Can you provide a link? Thanks.
April 18, 2025 @ 2:52 pm
Weldon Henson’s new song release is “Lost in Time.” It’s from an upcoming album (May 31) called “Stone Cold Country Gold.”
I saw him perform some of the new songs a few months ago and it’s good stuff.
April 20, 2025 @ 5:14 am
OOH! I Love Weldon! Thanks for posting this!
April 17, 2025 @ 10:52 am
Needed to be done. The consensus amongst my small group of Red Dirt fans is that no one can stop playing the TT album to listen to anything else that came out so thanks for the other updates. Yeah I’d say it is “setting the country music world on fire,” but our country music world, not that other one where Bailey Zimmerman’s rap song is #1.
April 17, 2025 @ 3:11 pm
On the Red River and Heaven Passing Through are exceptional, but I think What Was Advertised will have the most streams looking back in 5 years.
April 17, 2025 @ 4:41 pm
Those who light candles at the altar of Gram Parsons are advised to check out Tobacco City’s album Horses.
April 18, 2025 @ 7:44 am
I sometimes follow up on a random music recommendation from an internet stranger because occasionally it’s this good.
April 18, 2025 @ 8:27 am
My favorite release so far this year.
April 20, 2025 @ 4:20 am
As a devotee at Gram’s altar, will do. Thanks for the tip.
April 17, 2025 @ 5:08 pm
Bradly Gaskin finally released his first album who you might remember from the “Mr bartender”they are two killer tracks on that are playlist worth in “cry me a River” and “without you”.
April 17, 2025 @ 5:48 pm
Oh, did Robbie Fulks release a new song called “Roots Rock Weirdos: 2025”?
I kid, but that’s the vibe I often get from these playlists. “Authentic” roots music that is arguably country or country-adjacent but has little in common with the country music “cannon”, so to speak.
April 17, 2025 @ 7:58 pm
5 songs in and this list is solid.
April 17, 2025 @ 8:30 pm
I do not envy your position come December when you have to start creating best of lists. Hot damn has this been a bumper year for releases!
Turnpike Troubadours
Jason Isbell
Willi Carlisle – Upcoming
James McMurtry – Upcoming
And some that aren’t for the SCM crowd, but are cool for me personally:
Craig Finn
Bon Iver
April 17, 2025 @ 8:34 pm
Thought the Isbell record was handily his worst album. Shockingly bad songwriting.
The Craig Finn is fabulous though
April 18, 2025 @ 5:00 am
Still new Colter Wall to come as well, and Gabe Lee has been teasing some new music. Setting up to be an all-time year for country.
April 18, 2025 @ 5:05 am
Colter wall taljked about releasing an album about july time
April 18, 2025 @ 8:31 am
Craig Finn is great as he’s in the habit of being. Bon Iver, on the other hand – at this point for me he has turned into some kind of nondescript R&B. Maybe I should give him a second listen.
SCM crowd is a big tent 😉
April 18, 2025 @ 4:19 am
…we have a situation! great one and living proof how wonderfully alive – and good – country music is these days. tough times for the invariable moaners. ever so sorry for them.
April 18, 2025 @ 9:03 am
Is the new Muscadine album eligible for inclusion? Some absolute bangers on that album. Its the only thing that has been pushing off the new TT album from my playlist.
April 18, 2025 @ 9:31 am
I’m sure Muscadine will be getting some love here shortly. Last Friday turned out to be a packed release day.
April 18, 2025 @ 10:17 am
how did turnpike make this good of an album god damn i cant stop listening and crying and laughing and listening
jermey pine rip
April 18, 2025 @ 12:47 pm
Poor Trigger I’m still reeling from all the new music from this week. I know he’ll get to Muscadine, and I gave the Country Honk album a listen, and I really like it. I’ll never ask Trigger if he’s heard _____ or is he going to review______ and I still won’t.
There’s an old Sarah Shook Sidelong poster that hangs in my garage with the original Disarmers on it, and every day I see this mans face and I say to myself “I never got to see him play” and I know he’s a pounder!!! I stumbled upon John Howie Jr.’s album by accident this morning and loved it. I’m pretty sure he’s not drumming on it, but this record is great!!! There are literally not enough hours in the day for all this music, but the cream will rise to the top around here like it always does!!!
April 18, 2025 @ 11:44 pm
I agree i need Musk to create an alternate AI version of myself so i can just sit home and listen to all this great new country music poppin’ out
April 20, 2025 @ 12:51 pm
Pitney Myers album sounds so good, would hope for a mention sometime.
April 22, 2025 @ 9:00 pm
I’d be fine never hearing that Chasen Wayne song again.
