Charles Wesley Godwin’s Got a New Van and a Full Band

There are so many guys and gals out there killing it right now in independent country, you can be guilty of overlooking what Charles Wesley Godwin has got going on, which would be a shame.
Just like Tyler Childers, Arlo McKinley, John R. Miller, and others from the depressed regions of Kentucky and West Virginia, Charles Wesley Godwin’s stories are forged through the authenticity of a local experience, but are worthy of being enjoyed by a national and international audience. When you hear Charles Wesley Godwin sing, there is no need to power cycle your sense of disbelief. The sinewy roots of West Virginia’s hardscrabble existence seem to be intertwined with Godwin’s very fiber.
He’s already made a big name for himself while mostly touring as a solo acoustic artist after leaving his band Union Sound Treaty a few years back. But now with a full band and a new van, he’s ready to hit the highway hard and heavy, and bring his version of earnest songwriter country to the rest of the world.
Touring throughout July and August, it includes an appearance at the Back Country Bash in Joseph, Oregon, and opening for Ward Davis at The Shed in Maryville, TN on July 17th. Also rummaging around on Godwin’s social media, it appears he’s been listening to vinyl test pressings lately, so don’t be surprised if the announcement of new music doesn’t come soon.
All dates can be found below.

I just saw him open for Ward Davis.. he was acoustic with another guitar accompanying him. He is good but so mellow. Maybe band pick it up a lil. Great nite though. Ward Davis is a talent. Real enjoyable show

Yes, hes very mellow..its cerebral NPR listening room kinda music. It has its place. Playing a venue where the audience pays attention and shuts up is a must for a guy like this. The loud bar scene isnt conducive to this type of act. Acoustic bands struggle to hold a rowdy audiences attention.

We have a couple places like that where when the owner actually comes out and introduces the band he let’s the intimate audience know what kind of show and venue this is etc….in other words sit quietly and listen while the artist is playing then applaud afterwards. Hey Nonny’s is one. Chris Knight, Emily Scott Robinson and Elizabeth Cook all played there. It’d be perfect for Charles. People come because they want to listen not drink and talk.

Saw Charles tonight, and John R Miller on Tuesday in Charlotte, both killed it. Bought both vinyls and look forward to listening to their albums for years to come.

what’s going on with the milwaukee date? it’s listed on the poster but not on his site and it’s not listed over at shank hall, which seems to be where he is playing? odd.

He is listed on Shank Hall schedule for Sept 29

Seneca is one of my most played albums of the past decade… we’ve seen him twice (once acoustic / once with full band – both shows were awesome), and will be at the Richmond KY show – can’t wait. He’s been playing several new songs from the upcoming album for a while now – in particular, Jesse, Lyin’ Low, and Over Yonder are fantastic. Met him at both shows and chatted for a while, he’s tremendously gracious and down to earth. Easy to root for this guy. Can’t wait to see what comes next for him.
