Cody Jinks Promises 2nd “Loud & Heavy Fest,” Releases New Songs
Yes, there will be a 2nd Annual Loud and Heavy Fest featuring Cody Jinks and a personally curated lineup of artists from Jinks himself, with the details forthcoming. This is the news coming out of the Cody Jinks camp, while two new songs have just been released from Cody’s two upcoming albums.
The inaugural Loud and Heavy Fest was held August 18th, 2018 in Cody’s hometown of Ft. Worth, TX at the Panther Island Pavilion to a packed crowd. Along with Cody performing, you also had Whitey Morgan, Ward Davis, Paul Cauthen, Sunny Sweeney, Nikki Lane, Colter Wall, Whiskey Myers, and metal bands Corrosion of Conformity, and The Sword. But when August of 2019 came and went, the concern was that it would be a one-off event. Instead, organizers are working for it to be even better next time, and are finalizing a date, lineup, and location. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile there is plenty of other things to ingest on the Cody Jinks front. Just in case you’ve been living on Mars and haven’t heard, he has two records coming next month. The first is called After The Fire due out October 11th. Then the next week, on October 18th, we’ll get another record called The Wanting. The official single from the new records is called “Same Kind of Crazy As Me,” but ahead of the releases, Jinks has also released two new songs, “Think Like You Think,” and “William and Wanda.”
Cody Jinks says of the first song “Think Like You Think,” “This song was co-written with David Banning almost fifteen years ago. I started that one after I had been on a rather long bender while I was in my metal band in L.A. that carried over to when I got home. A year or two after that, we were able to get it finished. Recorded for the first time a long time ago on a record that is now out of print, we figured this was the right record to bring this one back to life.”
Jinks says of Williams and Wanda,” “We lost my grandfather earlier this year. My mother’s father was the only grandfather I had, and we got closer than we had ever been after the death of my grandmother. He fought in Korea and was a part of the last great generation, so when Nanny died, we all saw a different side of him. When William and Wanda came as an idea, I knew I had to write a song about how my nanny probably fussed at him for being late to heaven. I started the song shortly after his funeral, and my wife Rebecca helped me finish it. She would say, ‘Your nanny would have said this,’ and I would respond with what Papa would have said. It’s the first full song Rebecca and I have sat down and written together. We are so proud of it; it’s celebrating a sixty-year love story told by two people building their own.”
As part of the release of After The Fire and The Wanting is a dynamic new website feature from Cody Jinks. Not only is it the location for fans to find the lyrics, find out who the songwriters and respective musicians are on each song, it also contains a description of the song from Cody or perhaps another songwriter on the track, talking about the inspiration for the song, and/or how it came to be written. This is all part of Cody’s effort to put extra emphasis on the songwriters he collaborated with on the two records.
Both new albums are now available for pre-order.

The new Paul Cauthen album, Room 41 was unexpected. One of the oddest and coolest albums I’ve heard in a long time.

Think like you think is pretty meh or even not good. The wanting had a strange production I’m not sure what’s going on there.
But shit…..William and Wanda made me just cry in my car. It’s a perfect song. Go ahead and give Jinks song of the year for that one.

Actually “Think Like You Think” is an older song of his that he re-released. A lot of us Fans really like that song, its not always about the depth of the lyrics, but about the message behind them. I disagree, it’s more then a “meh” song

Agree 1000%. The lyrics fly right over a lot of folk’s heads.

Cody is doing everything right ahead of this one. He’s my favorite artist out for good reason.

I think they should take Loud & Heavy Fest out for a 5-10 date tour or at least try a few locations. I’m sure it would make a profit if they start small. Am I crazy?

early prediction: two new albums, 22 new songs. between the two albums, you’ll find 11 really good songs that should have been consolidated into one really great album. I hope I’m wrong, but releasing two albums, one right after the other feels a little too ambitious.

So far you’re not far off. We have one great song and 3 pretty meh songs.

I will agree “The Wanting” is “meh.” But so far the other one’s are pretty good so far.

All of the songs I’ve heard are pretty damn good. My only problem with any of them is I don’t think The Wanting needs all the “oh oh ohhhh ohs” and would be a stronger song without them. Sounds like some Imagine Dragons shit. Good song otherwise.

And 11 other songs that I can’t wait to listen to that will still be better than 90% of the shit out there
Fuck me people will bitch about anything… not enough music, too much music, production issues…. whatever.
What a bad ass move by Jinks in my book.

who’s complaining? I’m just being realistic. CJ is only human, not every song he records is going to be a home run. it’s just the fact of the matter. Lets face it, the last record was a little underwhelming, I don’t want him to have another miss. I’m rooting for him to hit it out of the park every time. best way to do that, is to consistently put out the best songs available. Sometimes less is more.

I’d like to see a tour of this.
On a tangential note, I went to see Ward Davis not too long ago. He’s absolutely worth seeing live. If you told me he stepped straight out of a time machine from 1974, I’d believe you.

I saw Ward in Florida in a small venue back in April and he killed it. Was very funny with great fan interaction and he played his heart out. Even got a picture after the show.

I just wish Cody would go back to his Adobe sessions team. That album had such a better sound to it.
These tracks still sound like they’re mixed by a guy with one ear.

The production on all of them but will and wanda is definitely off. And I’m not one to usually critique production…….unless it’s an isbell album that’s 1/2 as loud as everything else I have downloaded.

The volume of an album has nothing to do with the production.

I don’t need to hear anything else. I’d buy both of these albums simply to support the artist who created the song William & Wanda. What a stunning track.
For my money, Cody Jinks is still the gold standard in today’s traditional country scene.

Jinks is a pro.
And he is what he is.
I think a lot of people hit him up for unrealistic expectations, or want him to be something more.
Just enjoy it.
The nitpicking and bytching sometime go so beyond critiquing.
The odd thing:
I’ve seen him three times in Boston/Cambride. Three times through time.
Everytime, I’ve ended up running into him somewhere.
One time, my wife had a CJ shirt on, we are walking down the sidewalk, and someone taps her on the shoulder saying nice shirt, it was him with his parents.
Was sitting at a bar last month, him and ward davis come in sit down next to me.
Third time he was just out on the sidewalk in front of venue smoking a cigarette and we just hung out and talked to him..

So not only do we have these two albums to look forward to, but the Jon Pardi album being released a week from today is on NPR First Listen right now and it’s nothing short of fucking awesome.
In a span of 3-4 weeks, great country albums will be released on the mainstream and independent sides of the coin.
This is such a great win for country music.

Trigger, I refuse to listen to these pre release songs that everyone is doing before an album release anymore because I feel like it kind of ruins the whole Christmas morning feeling and how some songs fit better in an album setting. I know you have touched on this subject a few times but does this seem like an exception to the rule since album is sort of off label and Cody’s own doing? I couldn’t imagine Jinks releasing a song meant to be heard in more of an album format without the push of a label and marketing team forcing their hand. If this is correct it kind of lowers my expectations for these albums as I like a good album that has some continuity and flow to it. Out of genre, but Tools new album masters the whole album feel and is truly a journey all the way through.

I just sat down with a beer with one of my sons who just proudly returned home from Afghanistan. We have always been close, but only in the last few years have started enjoying the same kind of music. I turned on spotify in the basement, handed him a beer, started going through Release Radar, and listened to “Think Like You Think”.
Thanks, Cody Jinks. My kid and I shared yet another bond over a hell of a song and it got us talking about stuff he needed to get out. I love moments like that.
