Jackalope Jamboree Reveals STACKED 2024 Lineup

Pay attention, festival promoters. This is how you throw an independent country music festival. While everyone seems to want to get into this game now, some folks are showing that they only know about this music on paper, booking Thomas Rhett, Breland, or whoever the hell else on what’s supposed to be a true country/roots lineup because they’re not actual fans of the music.
Enter the Jackalope Jamboree in Pendleton, OR, who just fielded one of the best curated lineups you’ll see all year. While the rest of us have been screaming at our screens for someone to book Mike and the Moonpies in a headlining spot, The Jackalope Jamboree just hauled off and did it for their 2024 event happening June 27-29.
Up and down the roster you see names that other fests often overlook like Joshua Ray Walker, Pony Bradshaw, and Austin’s Ellis Bullard. They also have Two Runner who’s blowing up after opening for Sierra Ferrell, and Samantha Crain who always get overlooked in discussions of Oklahoma songwriters.
This mentions nothing of headliners like Charley Crockett, Randy Rogers Band, with deserving artists like Kaitlin Butts and Jason Boland in prominent spots as opposed to stuck on side stages. Jackalope Jamboree also does a great job featuring local and regional talent from the area like independent festivals are supposed to do.
Saving Country Music was in attendance for the 2022 Jackalope Jamboree, and can attest that it’s a good time. It has a big-time lineup, but there’s not a bad seat in the house in the Happy Canyon Arena, and fans aren’t cordoned of in endless mazes of wristband upgrades and security checkpoints. The camaraderie is unparalleled, while the Western flavor of Pendleton and its historic downtown and rodeo grounds make a great backdrop.
“We are incredibly excited for this year’s lineup,” says festival co-founder Chad Colwell. “Top to bottom, from our headliners to our opening acts, this might be our best lineup yet. We are already counting down the days till we get to see everyone back in Pendleton and Happy Canyon in June for another year of great music. Jackalope!”
Tickets go on sale November 15th at 12pm Pacific time at jackalopejamboree/tickets.

Pendleton is one of the best small towns in the West. And the folks at Jamboree really know how to put on a show. This event is so incredibly well-run. Will be there for my 3rd Jamboree. Can’t wait.

What no Ludacris?

Didn’t know Crutchmer plays music, probably just covers of his idol Jason Isbell.

I’m not sure if Crutchmer is a musician or not, but I don’t believe he will be performing. He appeared last year at the event promoting his book and interviewed Josh Fleming from The Vandoliers. I would never allow my name to be on a festival poster in this manner if I wasn’t a performing artist, or I could be misunderstood as a performer as he is being, if for no other reason than it would open me up to unneeded ridicule. A festival poster is not the place for a writer or journalist in my opinion, but I respect whatever relationship Crutchmer has with the Jackalope Jamboree. “Special guest” or “guest speaker” probably would be a better way to preface his involvement at the bottom of a poster or maybe in a press release. Too often these days journalists are too interested in promoting their personal brands as opposed to backgrounding themselves and centering the subjects they’re covering. Nobody is going to attend the Jackalope Jamboree because they know Josh Crutchmer is going to be there, any more than they would knowing I will be there. But if I am there again, I look forward to hearing Cructchmer speak. I missed him last year since his appearance was away from the fest grounds and I was busy on another story.

Not related to this cool fest in any way, but sad and funny so I had to share. A review of Garth’s new album popped up on my feed. For shits and giggles I read it. This professional paid country music critic said one of the two best songs on the album is called “the Ride” and even quoted the “half drunk and hallow eyed” line as exceptional. I guess Garth can write a good song…… geez. Never once mentioned it was a cover of a very well known and classic song.

If there isn’t a band with off-pitch singing and yelling about having an all-night revival,….just count me out.

It’ll be my first time playing a bigger festival since moving out west years ago. Having spent time in Pendleton for the round up and otherwise, I am so stoked to be a part of it!! There are SO many good players in this region!

Not sure how in-tune you are with the upper midwest/Wisconsin country/bluegrass/folk scene, but there’s a super stacked lineup Feb 8-10 in Appleton, WI called Ice Dance Music Fest

Sad to see Rob Leines is not in included, considering he played the last couple of years. Recently seeing and being completely blown away by him and his awesome band in Macon, GA, he is easily my “discovery” of the year.

Damn, that’s quite a lineup. I wish I was able to go.
