UPDATED: Jon Pardi Preps New Song and Album, “Heartache Medication”
This story has been updated.
New music is coming from traditional-leaning mainstream country artist Jon Pardi, and he promises it will be loaded with fiddles and steel guitar, and exactly what country music’s twang lovers crave. The lead single set to impact radio on June 3rd is called “Heartache Medication” (listen below), and this is also the name of his new album set to be released on September 27th. “When I wrote that song, I knew the fiddle was going to count it off and we’re going to have a fiddle intro,” Pardi says. “The first fiddle intro ever on country radio since Alan Jackson.”
Co-written by Pardi with two well-respected songwriters, Natalie Hemby and Barry Dean, “Heartache Medication” is a drinking-to-forget song that includes Bakersfield-style electric guitar along with the fiddle and steel. Jon Pardi is from the interior California town of Dixon himself, and the 33-year-old has quietly been killing it in the mainstream, launching two #1’s and four total Top 5 songs from his last album California Sunrise which has now been Certified Platinum, and regularly appears near the top of the country albums charts.
Jon Pardi has been playing “Heartache Medication” live for a while. Pardi co-produced the new album with Bart Butler just like his first two albums, and will be launching a headlining tour to coincide with the album release, staring off with a two-night stint at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on October 1st and 2nd.
Jon Pardi might have spooked some of his more traditional country fans recently when he appeared on a song from Thomas Rhett called “Beer Can’t Fix,” or decided to step his boots out onto the American Idol stage for the show’s finale Sunday to sing with the season’s winner Laine Hardy. Make no mistake, Jon Pardi is a pragmatist, and will most assuredly include some more radio oriented songs on the new album. “It’s not a bad thing to mix that in and have fun with it, but not depend on it, like this is going to make the song,” Pardi says.
But Jon Pardi has also been a focal point of bringing more twang and traditional style to the mainstream, and with the recent success of artists like Midland and even George Strait with more traditional sounding material, Pardi might continue to have success doing it his way.
More information on the new Jon Pardi music when it comes available.

Is that a typo in the headline?
May 20, 2019 @ 10:12 am
Yeah, autocorrect has apparently not deemed Jon Pardi a big enough star yet to not screw with his name, but we got it forced through.
May 20, 2019 @ 10:20 am
What you did there, i saw it. Also, looking forward to new music from Pardi.
May 20, 2019 @ 11:02 am
I love Jon Pardi.. and I love this new song Heartache Medication!!!
Jon is really the best mainstream country radio hit maker we have out there. He’s definitely the leader of the Saving Country Music movement in the mainstream radio/having support from a Major label field . (Yes, cody johnson is probably more traditional but he doesn’t have a string of radio hits yet and Midland doesn’t seem authentic enough)
I hope radio will embrace Jon’s new music!!!

Dear God, I’m annoying.
I apologize to everyone on this site that have read my shitty comments for years now.
May 20, 2019 @ 11:15 am
Just the snippet is better than 99% of eh crap on current radio!
May 20, 2019 @ 11:20 am
I am very much looking forward to his new record and glad he is keeping it country. He seems to get pretty good radio play for how country his music is.
May 20, 2019 @ 11:44 am
There’s nobody quite like Jon Pardi. His voice is authentic. He has the instant identity and he is a great performer at his live shows. He gives me George Strait, Buck Owens, Elvis, and Ricky Nelson vibes, while remaining his own self.
He’s got an old school Traditional/Rockability style to him aka Bakersfield sound!! But he’s not afraid to have a little pop in his step. He blends modern and traditional country sounds so well.
May 20, 2019 @ 12:42 pm
The song is available in full now on Spotify.
May 20, 2019 @ 12:54 pm
Hey folks, “Heartache Medication” just went live via streaming services. Story has been updated above with the song.
May 20, 2019 @ 12:59 pm
(After listening to studio official version) …. Wow. This is even more ” traditional” sounding than Head Over Boots, which I didn’t think was possible. Very much in line with She Ain’t In It, but much more upbeat. Hopefully it’s a lot more successful at radio than She Ain’t In It
May 20, 2019 @ 1:58 pm
I completely agree. I don’t usually care about what country radio is doing anymore but I am very interested to see how this song does. I hope very well not just for him but for traditional country music.
This song has me even more excited for his new record. Been waiting impatiently for a long time since CA Sunrise
May 20, 2019 @ 1:36 pm
I’m in outright shock in how little people seemed to care about the news this morning, and how few people are paying attention to this new song. Perhaps people are busy with other things today, but I thought this was a really big development, and that Pardi delivered on his promises with “Heartache Medication.” I expect it to do well. As a lead single, it will have big money from the label behind it, and this will be yet another solidly traditional song on the country charts.
May 20, 2019 @ 1:49 pm
Is that a bad sign that it’s getting little buzz? I read that it impacts radio on June 3rd.. which is still 2 weeks away. I feel that Jon could go either way in popularity : a. He could become the next Dierks Bentley of fame. (Radio success, Headlining, nominations) …. or b. He could become the next Josh Turner, Easton Corbin.
Hopefully this song gets huge!!!!
May 20, 2019 @ 2:06 pm
Releasing a brand new song (lead single) with zero buzz on a Monday (at noon) doesn’t seem to ignite interest. I really hope this picks up because I’m tired of everyone sounding the same…
May 20, 2019 @ 2:54 pm
Yeah the rollout was wonky for sure. First info went out on the AP news wires this morning, and people in country music weren’t really paying attention. Then the song kind of dropped randomly. I think it will be fine, but they didn’t really command the public’s attention like we saw with Tyler Childers last week.
May 20, 2019 @ 2:44 pm
I think a lot of people what country music to be saved, however, they want it saved by their “artist”. From what I can tell from past comments regarding Jon Pardi on this site. He isn’t the artist people want or think can save country music. Such a shame, because this song is awesome!!
May 20, 2019 @ 4:34 pm
Jared, you are right about that. There’s this whole contingent of “if it ain’t Cody Jinks it ain’t shit” purists who refuse to acknowledge that there are singers like Jon Pardi out there literally saving country music one song at a time. He’s breaking through with mainstream success and needs our support. This is a great song!
June 3, 2019 @ 9:19 am
Appreciate it, Tracy!
We all have “our artist/s. However, there are only a few artist that have a chance to make a major impact on mainstream country radio, because they are played on mainstream country radio. Jon Pardi is one of those artist. Country Music isn’t going to be saved by one artist. It is okay if not everyone likes him, but understand he is on our side. He fought with his label to get “Head Over Boots” released. As you said, he needs our support.
May 20, 2019 @ 4:07 pm
I’m here now, I care. Had to work and then cut the dandelions. Good song!
May 20, 2019 @ 4:49 pm
You think that because Hey Arnold has mentioned Pardi in the comments section of every post for the past 14 months.
May 20, 2019 @ 5:21 pm
You good bro? You don’t have no name drop me like in Toby Keith’s newest song. Just @ me next time.
I’m a Pardi fan. He’s out their saving mainstream country.
I’m glad you keep track of my 14 months of posts. You must be a stan of mine?
May 20, 2019 @ 1:43 pm
easton corbin was , apparently , 6 years AHEAD of his time ….not BEHIND the times ,
his first record set the new bar for this kinda trad country ….lyrically , musically , vocally , writing and production wise .
saying that , this works just fine in a king george kinda way ….points to pardi for playing it ‘strait’
May 20, 2019 @ 5:44 pm
I would add that although I’m in love with the throw-back country production and hope we see huge interest in the song if only for that reason , it isn’t, IMO , a great song , as writing and structure goes . The hook/title is buried in the chorus and is almost thrown on as insurance as a one-line tag at the END of the chorus.
If it doesn’t work at radio , I’d argue it isn’t cuz of the trad sound. Trad or Trendy , you still need a great song with a strong hook and a memorable melody .
May 20, 2019 @ 2:12 pm
Just gave the song a listen now that Trig made me get a subscription to Spotify….lol Hey, you can’t beat 99 cents for the first 3 months. Now I’ll get the Trigger playlist and have it all the time at my fingertips. THAT’S why I subscribed. 🙂
After a couple of listens I really like the song he stayed true to his word and his sound. If it works don’t fix it! Hope the whole album is as good or better. Judging by the first 2 albums I’m not worried. He knows how to write a melody, lyric, and a hook/chorus as good as any of the new breed. I hope radio plays it but doesn’t burn it out. It’s a long wait to Sept. 27!!
May 20, 2019 @ 2:14 pm
Love it!!
May 20, 2019 @ 2:15 pm
Natalie Hemby killing the game again.
May 20, 2019 @ 2:32 pm
Works for me. Glad to hear Waylon back in the mix!
May 20, 2019 @ 2:58 pm
I love it, i bought it & i play it.
New EP:
Kathryn Legendre – Making It Up – EP – 5 Tracks – Released (05/16)
Pure COUNTRY…it can’t get any better. So far my EP of the year with the great single “Sit Here & Cry” (on Triggers & my playlist).
New Album:
Lee Kernaghan – Backroad Nation – Album – 12 Tracks – Released (05/09)
Tania Kernaghans brother is the real king of country in Australia. The winner of 37 Golden Guitars & Inductee in the Roll of Renown is playing it safe on his new album. He knows his audience very well, the songs are radio-friendly & will sound great in concert.
New Songs:
Ashton Shepherd – “This Heart Won’t Break”
Former MCA Nashville artist, good song & but the production is messy.
Andrew Hyatt – “Didn’t Know Me”
Canadian artist with a couple of hits on Billboards Canadian Airplay Charts…Pop-“country”.
Trea Landon – “Loved By A Country Boy”
One of Warner Nashville new acts. Radio-friendly, boring with the token banjo in the mix.
James Carothers – “Comin’ Home To You”
Strong voice, ballad with modern elements.
Liam Kennedy-Clark – “Bottom Of An Empty Bottle”
New Zealands country star with a strong traditional leaning uptempo track.
Ashleigh Dallas – “Vacation”
Australian award winning country singer with a light uptempo tune.
Jade Jackson – “Bottle It Up”
Catchy uptempo track. On my playlist.

Heard the song within the last hour or two, and it is a winner. The man knows how to put fiddle in a country song. I’ve enjoyed his two previous albums and look forward to his third. I’m sure it will be stellar.
Also, 2019 is looking like the year mainstream radio started playing country music again!!
May 20, 2019 @ 3:15 pm
GREAT SOUND!!!! Sounds like the country I listen to growing up. Jon Pardi single-handedly trying to save country music. 8.5 out of 10 for me.
May 20, 2019 @ 5:04 pm
Trigger,
If this song cracks the top 10, I’ll not only kiss your a$$, but I’ll also kiss Fuzzy’s, Corncaster’s, Albert’s, Hoptown Tiger’s, Black Boots’s, Seth From Lampasses’s, Ulysses McCaskill’s, and Lil Dale’s a$$es too.
I love it, but the dumbmasses won’t, and it’ll stall in the mid 20’s.
May 20, 2019 @ 5:25 pm
It’s a lead single, which means the label will throw mad cash behind it, and radio will allow it leeway no matter what it sounds like. I agree this is a little bit of a gamble by Pardi, but I think he sees the resurgence of interest in actual country music, and believes he can capitalize off it. It will be interesting to see what happens, and could be a good bellwether of things to come depending on how it performs.
May 20, 2019 @ 5:28 pm
That’s what I’m afraid about. I can see this easily settling in the top 15-25 range at radio. With a big push, maybe it can hit #10.. anything is possible. It is a lead, so more spins before the album release will be a plus!!
May 20, 2019 @ 5:48 pm
Looks like Riley Green is hitting the road with Jon Pardi.
May 20, 2019 @ 5:49 pm
That’s the badassery of the great Ross Holmes and Billy McClaran on fiddles!
May 20, 2019 @ 7:01 pm
His vocals are auto tuned a bit much
May 20, 2019 @ 7:37 pm
To all my loyal fans… I’ve decided that I want to go out MY Way. Like Frank Sinatra. This website is addicting…. so I want Trig to officially ban my ip address from commenting. This is what You the people want… and more importantly, it’s what I want. Country music is being saved by Jon Pardi. No need to keep commenting on here.
Trig banished me once, but this time… this is my choice. My decision.
Keep that fiddle playing y’all.
Much love, Always.
– Hey Arnold
May 21, 2019 @ 3:49 pm
Hopefully he bans you permanently this time. I cringe anytime I see you in the comments. Are you still in middle school?
May 1, 2021 @ 10:14 pm
Looking at my past digital footprints.
Holy crap, I’m annoying. Sorry dude
May 20, 2019 @ 7:52 pm
Great song. Everyone needs to stream this song over and over again. We can make this song a hit. Do your part in saving country music. Stream it. Force Spotify to put it on all of their top lists.
May 20, 2019 @ 7:56 pm
I prefer Cody Johnson and Chris Staple ton, but how could you not kike JOn Pardi? He said himself his inspiration came from George Strait.
May 21, 2019 @ 6:06 am
I loved California Sunrise, and this sounds like a direct continuation of that sound and style. Can’t wait to hear more!
May 21, 2019 @ 6:23 am
I think from a sonic standpoint, Jon Pardi has been a step-up from the standard radio fare. But his lyrics have been way too bro and immature to find myself listening to his music all that often. Hopefully we can see some growth with this release.
May 21, 2019 @ 7:21 am
A fiddle intro? Love it but nothing beats the intro to “The Bird Hunters.” Pure magic.
May 21, 2019 @ 8:24 am
Sounds more like his first album. Love both albums, but a strong kick drum with loads of fiddle and steel guitar just sounds awesome. It’s a jam and I hope he goes #1. His duet with Justin Timberlake’s neanderthal doppelganger had me a bit worried…
May 21, 2019 @ 8:29 am
The Good:
– it is, sonically, a country song!
– fiddle is always a good thing; doubling the number of fiddles doubles the fun!
The Bad:
– somebody turn down the damn kick drum! I must be getting old…
– a fifth grader could have written these lyrics
I’m glad this song is going to be on the radio vs. something even worse, but in a just world this wouldn’t see the light of day because the song itself simply isn’t good enough.
May 21, 2019 @ 9:55 am
I love him and really love the song. But I think this is a slow climber. May peak in top 15 about 10 months from now.
Good to hear some steel guitar and fiddle.
May 21, 2019 @ 10:01 am
People are so thirsty for a bit of fiddle they will overlook how atrocious the lyrics are in a song.
May 21, 2019 @ 10:52 am
I like it. A simple song lyrically but well put together and easy to listen to. Pardi’s voice is a little “meh” for me but I’ll overlook that to have this song climb the charts. Hope this continues to help turn this country music ship around and get it heading in the right direction.
May 21, 2019 @ 12:26 pm
Thank you Jon Pardi, this is what I have been waiting for—this sound, just like you showed on “She Ain’t In It”, which I never stop playing. Anyone who has been clamoring for country music the way it used to be, and doesn’t like this, what else do you want?
May 21, 2019 @ 9:09 pm
Time to get the Pardi started
May 23, 2019 @ 7:07 pm
I love all of Jon pardi songs I love head over boots is my favorite song of Jon pardi
