Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#139)

It’s an embarrassment of riches these days trying to keep up with all the best songs and albums. That is why this particular playlist update includes an unprecedented 11 new songs. Trying to fit them all into 25 slots (and failing) is a good problem to have.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Jesse Daniel (feat. Ben Haggard) – “Tomorrow’s Good Ol’ Days” – Something tells you Merle himself would be proud of what Jesse Daniel and son Ben have put together here. From Daniel’s upcoming album Countin’ The Miles out June 7th
Kelsey Waldon feat. Margo Price – “Traveling The Highway Home” – An absolute cooker from Kelsey Waldon from her upcoming covers album There’s Always A Song out May 10th. Originally written by Frankie and Walter Bailes and recorded by Molly O’Day, it’s the definition of a road song.
Conrad Fisher – “I Hate To See The Flowers Die” – Conrad Fisher has all of a sudden become one of the most prolific songwriters in country, releasing songs and albums left and right. But the quality is not suffering. This song was inspired when Fisher worked at a funeral home is proof positive.
Emily Nenni – “Drive and Cry” – If you’re looking for full tilt twang, don’t navigate any further than the title track of Emily Nenni’s new album.
Laurie Lewis – “Trees” – Wow. The folk and bluegrass legend turns in a stunning acapella original that awakens memories of Ralph Stanley and “O Death” completely out of the blue. “Trees” is the title track to Laurie’s upcoming May 31st album, and also features Hasee Ciacco, George Guthrie, and Tom Rozum on vocals.
Matt Masters – “How Many Days Until Tomorrow” – An excellently written and performed song by this Canadian artist, with the harmony vocals from Kendel Carson coming in like Emmylou Harris.
India Ramey – “Ain’t My First Rodeo” – From East Nashville, India Ramey gets you ready for her upcoming album Baptized By The Blaze with this twangy and fun track.
Scotty McCreery – “Lonely” – Go Scotty! The mainstream country star has always charmed us with the richness of his voice and the occasional traditional country song. That’s what he turns in here with “Lonely.” From his upcoming album Rise & Fall out May 10th.
Tyler Childers – “Going Home (Live)” – Captured in 2015 on the Mountain Stage program as part of West Virginia Public Radio, this version of “Going Home” is the only one we have in recorded form. Childers regularly featured the song early on in his career, and it’s the crown jewel of the new Oh Bo Records compilation Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers out now.
Wyatt Flores – “Wish I Could Stay” – The young and viral songwriter proves that country is part of his primary influences with this waltz-timed, fiddle and steel heartbreaker from his most recent EP, Half Life.
Charley Crockett – “Ain’t Done Losing Yet” – Charley Crockett’s new album $10 Cowboy isn’t about where he’s at, but how he got here, recalling the trials and tribulations he endured on his way up. “Ain’t Done Losing Yet” is a good testament to now matter how low you get, there’s always a way up.

I’m afraid you may have missed a golden song… Colby Acuff released Scared of the Dark yesterday, and it’s making waves with my friend group.

A link to “Scared in the Dark” song/video is in the news scroll at the top of the site. It might be added here once we have accompanying album info from Colby to discuss. I’ve never added more than 9 songs at a time to the playlist. This week I added 11.

Fair enough!

Let me guess: Colby Acuff is the great great grandson of somebody of renown–who’s gone off with the great speckled bird.

Thank you for the add. I really appreciate it.

What do you think of the Nicolette and the Nobodies record?
May 5, 2024 @ 1:37 pm
I like what I’ve heard so far. It’s being considered for review but I need to spend some more time with it.

The Jesse Daniel/Ben Haggard song is the #1 new track here at the mansion. I haven’t stopped spinning the entire Wyatt Flores or Kimmi Bitter records since they dropped. Love the Emily Nenni too. I don’t remember who mentioned the Hannah Dasher records on here, and I know they’re older releases, but I’m listening to both half’s to make a whole, and she’ll be here in August @ my new home, away from home Carol’s Pub where there’s so many amazing shows this month I should rent a room in the neighborhood!!!

Just discovered Jeffrey Martin. If you’re into Arlo, definitely check this man out.

“Did he breathe into you just to tell you that you are to blame?” Frick – that song was really well done!
May 5, 2024 @ 1:26 pm
My second-favorite album last year, right after What, When and Without.

The Emily Nenni Song, “Drive and Cry’ Is what Kacey Musgraves SHOULD Sound Like, Pray Ms. Nenni Does NOT fall The same Way !!!
May 5, 2024 @ 6:01 am
Great song and seems like a killer album I need to pick up. But has Kacey Musgrave’s music EVER had that kind of soul? Even on those first two albums? Better than average mainstream country and she could do a good job on a slow country ballad. But she has always sounded a bit subdued to my ears. And she was looking to make it in the mainstream world from the beginning.

The new Jesse Daniel song is great in many ways, also cool to have Ben Haggard on it with him.
Jessie has been hitting lots of home runs lately, such a strong list this week, not enough time to listen to so much great music being released these days. We are in a very prolific period, and yes, I think Country Music has been saved!

“Tomorrow’s Good Ol’ Days” is about a subject that has been done before and there’s nothing really new or brilliant here that would pull it beyond the generic. (“They’re buying up the farmland and the dirt road’s being paved” goes back to Bobby Bare and his “Bird Named Yesterday” and “Old Swimming Hole” in 1967! )
But I will say that at one point it kind of evoked Merle’s “Are the Good Times Really Over,”–which might have been a good reason to bring in Ben Haggard.

Traveling tbe highways home and i hate to see the flowers die are awesome songs. Trees is pretty goos as well. Of course i like the crockett song but i have that cd. The song by wyatt flores is pretty good as well. Really a great top 25 overall though some just arent to my taste which doesnt make them bad. Far as the flowers sonh, i love the song but totally disagree with the message.

I’ve been listening to the Emily Nenni Album and I really like it. It’s not my favorite album of the year but some of the songs I’ve heard have great energy behind them and I wouldn’t have known about her without this playlist/article.

Adam Hood released a single called “Stage Lights” and it’s just further proof that he is incapable of writing a bad song.

I like finding country-sounding songs in unexpected places. Here’s a recent example. To me this is screaming for a cover by someone like Carly Pearce, but is also pretty countryish as is.

best country playlist around the internet
May 6, 2024 @ 5:47 am
I would like to recommend Josh Turner’s new single “Heatin’ Things Up” and Matt Moore’s “Roll No More” for consideration.

What a great playlist, some really great music!
May 6, 2024 @ 10:14 am
“Lead The Way” would be my choice from the new Charley Crockett album. But I could see where it’s not really country enough for this playlist. Thanks for curating this playlist!!!
