Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#145)
As we near the end of summer, it’s time to look forward to the fall and the final push of top notch albums for this year. The summer saw some of the strongest releases we’ve seen in years, and the fall is already shaping up to be stellar as well.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
William Beckmann – “Not That Strong” – As soon as William Beckmann signed to a major label, some surmised it was all over and we’d get snap beats and tractor rapping about trucks from here on out. What we actually get is yet another great classic country song as his first major label single, showcasing one of the greatest voices of this latest generation.
Shawna Thompson with Leslie Satcher – “Lonesome and Then Some” – If you didn’t have Shawna Thompson’s new album Lean on Neon on your radar for September 13th already, then “Lonesome and Then Some” will certainly seal the deal. If the early singles are any indication, this will be one serious traditional country heartbreaker.
Ritch Henderson – “Time Well Spent” – Lots of wise words are packed into this singer/songwriter track that is worth an intent listen. It’s from Ritch Henderson’s surprise release Alive in Alabama.
Caleb Klauder, Reed Willms – “He’s Gone” – The Hank Williams of the West Coast is back with partner Reeb Willms to record this excellent original old-time country song. They’re now officially working with Free Dirt Records, and hopefully a new album is on the way.
Hannah Juanita – “Hardliner Blues” – No better way to start off the playlist than this revved up opening track from “The Hardliner” Hannah Juanita’s new album Tennessee Songbird.
Tony Martinez – “Wrong Like The Weatherman” – What a well-written tune, and perfectly complimented by the music and production arranged by Yelawolf. Tony Martinez’s new album Everywhere West has been one of the best surprises of 2024 so far, and was well worth the wait.
Wesley Hanna with Courtney Patton – “Life in Three Quarter Time” – A couple of top Texas songwriters team up to pay tribute to the waltz beat that’s always best at bringing the emotion out of a song, and the dancers out on the floor.
Benjamin Tod – “Satisfied With Your Love” – When Benjamin Tod swore his upcoming album Shooting Star (10-18) would touch on all the classic eras of country, he wasn’t lying. “Satisfied With Your Love” is straight out of the ’30s and ’40s, but certainly welcome to present-day ears.
Jamey Johnson – “Sober” – “Sober” is the Jamey Johnson song we’ve waited 15 years for. Johnson really captures the difficulty of the sober decision where all your buddies and co-workers are still on the sauce. As insightful and introspective as the writing is, it’s the organ that helps build that boiling tension and passion behind this song while giving it just enough of a Gospel feel to fit the reverence of the song’s intent. Thanks for the William Beckmann recommendation. I’m hearing a bit of George Strait and Gary Allan in this song. Really well done.

Let’s see what I’m loving on this playlist…………The opening Hannah Juanita song is great, as is the entire album. I saw her at Carol’s last year with Michelle Billingsley. A+ The Shawna Thompson tune is really good too. Of course, the 49 Winchester album still hovers near the top spins around here with Ben Jarrell.
On the local scene, as I’ve taken upon myself to kind of cover and help out because I just think there’s so much talent around here and a lot going on. Joe Stamm dropped an acoustic record on us this week called “Memoirs”. Joe says, “Memoirs is basic and rough, and my songs in their simplest form”. It’s a great listen. David Quinn quietly released his most “honest” album to date, called Young Love. These songs “come from his heart and soul,” and I haven’t stopped playing it in 4 weeks, just a beautiful record. The Rangers put out their 4th and best album to date titled “Cowboy In A Bottle” and just came back from a Texas tour. They’ll headline The Law Office and Carol’s Pub in the coming days. Lydia Cash, the amazing artist that she is, gave us a masterpiece called Blush, taking the melodic singer/songwriter thing to an unimaginable level.
Wild Earp and his O.K. Chorale group are out on tour playing shows celebrating the 65th Anniversary of Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs in it’s entirety!!! This man is on another level folks…..LOL Of course, last but certainly not least, my favorite little band, Meg and The Wheelers, is gearing up and excited to be opening 2 shows (here and Milwaukee) for Melissa Carper as well as their first festival headline at The Widows Harvest festival on Sept. 20. Lydia Cash is on that bill also on the 21st. I’m so proud of the scene we have here and lucky to be a part of it.

Hes gone is really good and life in three quarters time is really excellent. Have to give lots of thanks for that recommendation. Figured i would like satisfied with your love a shot cause i tend to like older stuff but im not sure, may give it another shot. The song itself is fine just not sure about the voice singing it. Will probably give a couple of others a listen off of here.

“Wrong Like The Weatherman” — I was really digging this song, and I still do. But as it got to the bridge, it shifted into sounding just like Garth’s “Shameless”. That’s a song I love, but it distracted me for a minute. Hehe.
I’m gonna check out Tony’s while record. I like his voice.

That new Caleb Klauder song sent me down a rabbit hole, listening to his “Sings Out” record a bunch of times. Man, that record still holds up 20+ years later.
