Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#146)
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
George Strait feat. Chris Stapleton – “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” – This is honky tonk country music at its finest and super fun. We don’t really hear a lot of this hard honky tonk country from Chris Stapleton, or even really George Strait. But together they knock this one out of the park.
Reckless Kelly – “What’s Left of My Heart” – They haven’t retired yet. In fact, they just released a new album of bangers called The Last Frontier of short and simple songs that just work. “What’s Left of My Heart” is probably the most country of them from these alt-country legends.
Marcedes Carroll – “Crooked Nail” – Marcedes Carroll is a real deal songwriter from Montana worth checking out. She just released a new album called We Lost Track of the Stars, and the opening song is a good example of the keen observational perspective she brings to her songs, and the certified twang she brings to the music.
Whitey Morgan and the 78’s – “Let Me Roll” – Yes and yes! It’s been a long six years waiting for new music from Whitey. He’s never been the most prolific of studio artists or songwriters. He prefers to spend his time making music out there on the road. “Let Me Roll” is in large part about that.
Miranda Lambert – “Living On The Run” – If you need any other indication that it is a new era in the career of Miranda Lambert, covering David Allan Coe is a pretty good indication. This is a great honky-tonk version, and gives you some Little Feat “Willin'” vibes.

I’d liked to have seen Haw River or something else from the new Chase Rice album get a shout.
I’m struggling to recall anyone who has managed to turn a career around as impressively as this guy has, releasing two outstanding albums in 18 months.

I reviewed the last Chase Rice album and I’m sure the new one will be addressed in due course as well.

Great, I’ll look forward to it. His interviews for this album have been interesting, basically admitting that his musical growth/improvement over the last couple of years have been akin to commercial suicide for his career. He seems happy with where he’s going and has at least one new fan in me.

Picking only one from Miranda’s album had to be a challenge but no disagreement on the choice. My favorite gal from Nashville with the incredible raspy voice, Sheyna Gee, released yet another terrific single called “Neon Angel (Cowboys Never Stay). If “Maggie May” is still one of your favorite songs like it is for me, Sheyna’s rasp can go toe-to-toe with Rod’s all day long.
Ben Chapman also released another swampy country-funk single called “Downbeat” in advance of his album announced as coming out in December. Anyone diggin’ on Brent Cobb and Adam Hood will definitely enjoy Ben’s music.
