Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#148)
The year is starting to wind down and the onslaught of Holiday music is right around the corner. But 2024 still has some great songs to give, and you’ve found yourself in the right place to discover them.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Presley Haile – “Mosquito” – This is a song about a boy and his horse. It’s also not really about a boy and his horse at all. It’s about how no matter how trusty of a steed you might have, you can’t walk or run away from the emotional turmoil that’s impressed upon you in youth. Master class songwriting from Presley Haile on this one.
Gregg Hall – “Woman Like You” – This song reminds of all those hot twang tracks from the late ’80s and early ’90s that unfortunately you don’t hear enough of today. It gets you highly anticipating Gregg Hall’s upcoming EP Exit 222 out December 21st.
John PayCheck – “More Days Behind” – Yes, Johnny PayCheck’s son plays and sings. And yes, he’s damn good too as the title track from his latest album attests. “More Days Behind” finds the second generation performer pondering mid life, with lots of tasty twang to back him up.
Anna Wescoat – “Right Side Wrong Way” – When Ben Jarrell reaches out and tells you to check out an artist, you check them out. Jarrell co-wrote this song which leads off Anna Wescoat’s debut album, World Famous with a great traditional country sound.
Tris Munsick & the Innocents – “Quicksand” – Ian isn’t the only Munsick out there writing and singing songs. If you love a Western flavor to your country, and love your country with a traditional sound, Tris Munsick & the The Innocent is where to point your nose. “Quicksand” is off their new album Big Medicine Moon.
Lowdown Drifters – “In Time” – The moody sound of The Lowdown Drifters compliments songs about rocky relationships and life on the road. The songs of their new album In Time feel lived, not imagined, and well-seasoned in sweaty bars played for wild crowds.
West of Texas – “Wall of Memories” – West of Texas has just released one hell of a honky tonk record in Hot Motel Nights. With excellent songs like “Wall of Memories” and superb and tasty instrumentation throughout, it’s albums like these that make a strong case for the evergreen relevance of classic country music.

Thanks for keeping this playlist up Chris. In super sad tragic news, Isaac Rudd and Christine Kindred (both musicians from IN) lost their little girl in a car accident on Friday. The music community here is devastated. Isaac and Christine are so loved and such a big part of the fabric of independent country throughout the Midwest. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Thanks! Yeah I saw that horrible news about Isaac and Christine’s daughter. So sad and tragic. I’ve never met them or seen them live yet but have been following and sharing their music for a couple years now.

Currently enjoying Willow Avalon, such a unique voice! Fans of early Kacery Musgraves will like her songwriting. “Gettin rich, going broke” and “Hey there Dolly” are so much fun.

As I always say, exclusives are where viral events go to die. I can’t consider these songs for this playlist, because they’re exclusive to Apple Music. I’m discouraged to write about them, because only 1/4-1/3rd of readers can hear them. Exclusives only serve the outlets that host the exclusive, not the artist, or the public. Perhaps at some point they’ll be released to the wide public. And then, they’ll be an afterthought.

For those unaware, Livin’ on the Run is a David Allen Coe song. I’ve made my way through his catalogue and it stands out as my favorite.
Also, One Last Name by Benjamin Tod & Sierra Ferrell is my current #1. Take a listen!
