Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#149)
The last couple of weeks of November have seen a cavalcade of excellent singles being released, from incredible original songs, to some choice covers that rarely make it on this playlist, but are so good they can’t be denied. Let’s enjoy them before Christmas music clogs our ears for the next five weeks.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Mike Thomas – “Hell in High Water” – If you were looking for that one song inspired by the devastation in North Carolina caused by Hurricane Helene that really puts it all in perspective, this is it.
J.R. Carroll – “Hometown Hero” – This Oklahoma songwriter and member of Zach Bryan’s band has really found his stride, and no better time than heading into the release of his debut album Dark Cloud on December 6th. Carroll’s got his voice, his sound, and his writing dialed in on this one.
Jesse Daniel, Benjamin Tod – “A Few Ole Country Boys” – If this isn’t a true country music lover’s dream. Two of the best to do it at the moment join forces to put their spin on a song famously recorded by Randy Travis and George Jones. Jesse Daniel and Benjamin Tod also released an original song with it called “Turn The Devil Away.”
Brooklyn Fenn – “Mirror, Mirror” – Get Brooklyn Fenn on your radar now, and thank me later. What and incredible voice from this West Texas up-and-comer brought to a traditional country sound that reminds you why you love country music. She’s only released a couple of cover songs so far—this one was originally cut by Randall King—but it’s an auspicious start to a promising career.
Justin Wells – “Counting Days” – Leave it to Justin Wells to put you straight in the feels. “Counting Days” also has a great video to accompany it. Don’t go listing off Kentucky’s great songwriters without mentioning Justin.
Vincent Neil Emerson – “Rodeo Clown” – Emerson’s got something up his sleeve, releasing two new killer singles recently with a hot and sweaty honky-tonk sound. If you like this one, check out “Big Wheels” as well. No official album announcement just yet, but 2025 will surely have something in store.
Stephen Wilson Jr. – “Stand By Me (live)” – Even in the unscrupulous business of music, an excellent performance can still bust through the noise and agendas to become a truly organic smash. We saw that with the Luke Combs cover of “Fast Car,” and that’s currently happening with Stephen Wilson Jr.’s version of “Stand By Me,” first released as a live video from the Print Shop, and now graced with a streaming version.
Silverada, Rob Leines – “The Road” – Two of music’s most seasoned road dogs, and two of the greatest live acts around pair up to cover an old Danny O’Keefe song about life as a traveling musician.
Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms – “Gold In Your Pocket” – The new album from Caleb and Reeb is not to be overlooked, and the title track is a great example why. This is pure traditional country at its best.
Courtney Patton – “What Is Done Will Be Repeated” – Look alive, because Courtney Patton has announced she has a new album coming in January of 2025, and this new song gives you all the reason you need to be excited for it.
Jamey Johnson – “No Time Like the Past” – Johnson’s first original album in 14 years was well worth the wait, but can run a little to slow for some. But “No Time Like The Past” has the kind of tempo that perfectly compliments Jamey’s songs and singing.
Dwight Yoakam – “Wide Open Heart” – Country music’s King of Cool is back with is first album in nearly ten years, and similar to “Wide Open Heart,” it has a more rockin’ West Coast disposition that allows listeners to let loose.

I’m so happy to see Justin Wells have a new release. Any idea if an album is coming?
I loved Fifth on the Floor and Dawn in the Distance. Highway Less Taken is such a good song.

No word on a new album just yet. But where there’s some, there’s fire.

I’ll be doing the annual Holiday music playlist/roundup at some point after Thanksgiving, probably the first week of December.

I haven’t really understood the hype (in some circles) around Stephen Wilson Jr., but damn if that “Stand By Me” cover isn’t great. Super simple, but talk about signing your heart out.

The duet (the Tunnel) he did earlier this fall with Lori McKenna is pretty strong as well.

We need a Sturgill and SWJ collab.
What a one-two punch with Stand by Me and I’m a Song.
