On Zach Bryan Trying to Fight Gavin Adcock

There’s an old saying that if you find yourself constantly surrounded by assholes, the real asshole might be you.
In this particular instance, are we talking about Zach Bryan, or are we talking about Gavin Adcock?
Yes.
Zach Bryan got drunk, and decided he was going to be a tough guy. It probably was not the smartest of decisions. Gavin Adcock is a troll, and the first rule of how to deal with a troll is to not feed them. Zach Bryan just threw a big hunk of red meat Adcock’s way.
Granted, navigating a triple barb wire fence while heavy in the sauce is certainly a feat in itself. And with the way Zach was so bound and determined to chuck knuckles, he very well might have won any physical altercation. Gavin Adcock seemed to think the same, backpedaling pretty quickly once Zach Bryan made the leap. As is common with trolls, Adcock has a lot to say, but is rarely there to back it up. But this isn’t high school. Being a real man is knowing when to fight, and knowing when not to.
For those who haven’t seen the video yet, Gavin Adcock was set to perform at Born & Raised Festival in Pryor, Oklahoma Saturday evening (9-13) when Zach Bryan showed up along the perimeter of the fest to confront Adcock with a barbed wire fence in between them. Bryan eventually hopped the fence, before security detained him, while Adcock backpedaled and his people held him back.

It’s pretty obvious Zach Bryan was drunk. Bryan was on location because earlier in the day, he’d appeared as a surprise guest to sing “Madeline” with Gabriella Rose, once again underscoring Bryan’s commitment to helping up-and-coming artists, and women in particular, which they needed at this festival where you had to go 19 names deep on the poster before getting to the name of a woman in small print. While on stage, Zach Bryan said, “Gavin Adcock, where you at?”
Meanwhile, Gavin Adcock had no business even being at Born & Raised Festival. It’s called “Born & Raised” for a reason, and perhaps nobody was born and raised closer to Pryor, Oklahoma in music than Zach Bryan, who has a long history with the fest, both debuting during a pre-party in 2021, and then returning the next year as a headliner. Gavin Adcock is the pride of Athens, Georgia. For Zach Bryan, this was about defending his dirt.
But the suits booking these festivals and the folks peddling Adcock’s career on Music Row have decided to market Gavin as an “underground” or “Outlaw” artist, though his music is decidedly mainstream. That is why we continue to see Gavin Adcock appear at festivals like this, as if he’s the next Waylon Jennings. This is the mainstream country music business trying to recapture some of the fan base they’ve lost to actual independent country artists and labels.
And unfortunately, because folks like Zach Bryan and Charley Crockett can’t help but engage with Adcock’s trolling, Gavin continues to garner disproportionate attention, and to become a folk hero of sorts, and to outclass some of his opponents as he gets in their kitchen. Then the mainstream media is more than happy to help, with Rolling Stone Country platforming Adcock on their Nashville Now podcast, and specifically needling Gavin about his previous Zach Bryan tiff over fan interaction, pouring fuel on the fire.
For those that don’t remember, Zach Bryan was criticized by some fans for not meeting with them after a stadium show earlier in the summer. Gavin Adcock then called out Zach Bryan directly. In the greater context, Zach Bryan did not deserve to be criticized. He’s a stadium act that sold out three consecutive nights. He can’t expect to meet with every single fan afterwards. But just like at Born & Raised, Zach decided to engage with his detractors, and the worst of him came out. That previous interaction with Adcock is what fueled this weekend’s confrontation.
Gavin Adcock should have not been booked at Born & Raised Festival, or the Texas Two Step Inn festival in April, or FairWell Fest in Oregon in July. Those appearances also caused disruptions. These promoters have no idea what they’re doing, and even more frustrating, they all cheat off of each other’s lineup to point that no matter what major festival you go to all across the country, the lineup is the same, while artists that never make it on these lineups never get an opportunity to break through.
This whole thing is embarrassing. It feels embarrassing to be writing this article right now. And the big winner here is the guy who is quickly become country music’s wrestling heel, Gavin Adcock. Because people are paying attention to him, which is exactly what he wants, and doesn’t deserve.

With all due respect, Trigger, you watched a video that was a tiny snippet of a shit show of a day that probably actually had less to do with alcohol and more to do with insecurities, ego, and hard drugs. And he didn’t show up to help Gabriella. He showed up to show his ass and he ruined that sweet girl’s set.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:07 am
I certainly wasn’t there, and I certainly don’t have the context of anything more than the video that is available online. But I also certainly wouldn’t take this article as a defense of Zach Bryan’s actions in any way. On the contrary. He did show up though to support Gabriella Rose, even if that was just a precursor to confronting Adcock. He’s a stadium act who showed up to support and opening act. That’s not what anyone should take away from this article. But it’s also an important point that shouldn’t get lost in the more salacious details. That’s why I included it.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:14 am
She was a conduit for his asshattery. That’s all. He yelled Gavin Adcock’s name 3 times into the mic while he was singing that song with her. Even my 15 year old was embarrassed for him, but mostly her.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:27 am
Like I said, I’m not here to defend Zach Bryan. But the Gabriella Rose appearance is important context. And if you go read the other articles published about this, either they don’t even mention Gabriella, or they don’t mention that this is when Zach Bryan first started calling Gavin Adcock out. Was it a pretext? Likely. But being tangentially involved in this altercation is probably the most ink Rose has received in her career, unfortunately.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:30 am
I was not aware of this detail. This slightly changes how I view how Zach dealt with Adcock because in many ways Zach is still an amateur musician. Off-stage drama is different than on-stage drama.
Zach Bryan isn’t as musically talented as he is successful. However it’s crap when other artists shit on him out of jealousy of his success simply because they feel his success should have been theirs.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:02 am
I just have to point out that the outlaw country guys everyone strikes poses about being like were known to get drunk and coked up and get in a fight or two. It’s true about the trolling and they really should ignore the idiots for that reason. But it’s still hilarious to me that Adcock is all bluster and tough talk when he’s picking on a mild mannered artsy guy like Charley but when a guy who likes to fight and is crazy enough to do it shows up they suddenly they aren’t so tough.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:06 am
People commenting on Adcock’s post after the incident rightfully pointed out that he had his security step in and that Zach Bryan would have likely kicked his ass if he decided to fight him – yet Adcock is still trying to appear tough by posting after the fact.
I’m on Bryan’s side on this one. If Adcock wants to make those remarks about other artists online and another artist wants to confront him face-to-face, you are revoking your man card if you run from the confrontation. I’m not advocating violence here, but when two men argue there is an underlying factor of potential violence. I’m talking about violence that is solely based on one’s physicality and ability to fight – not with weapons. When there is no underlying threat of violence in an argument and people say whatever they want – that is a confrontation dealing with a woman. I’m not saying Zach Bryan should have punched him in the face, but Adcock was a bitch for not dealing with Bryan face to face and owning up to his words.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:21 am
When it comes to man code, can you give credit to Zach Bryan for defending his turf, and refusing to back down, including hopping a damn barb wire fence? Yes you can. Zach Bryan put his money where his mouth is, though he must have known security would have collared him before anything happened. Hell, last time I attended this event, I got collared by security. Twice. And for completely bullshit reasons. That’s why I haven’t been back.
And of course, just like all trolls, when actually confronted with a physical altercation, Gavin Adcock turtles, though I’m sure he has handlers there to avoid these very specific kinds of altercations who were in his ear telling him “no.” You can see that happening on the video.
But still, was this a smart course of action by Zach Bryan? Of course not. Just point to the zeros behind your personal wealth and let the trolls chirp.
Gavin Adcock is losing the battles here and winning the war. He is and should be a middling 3rd tier mainstream semi star, and at this pace he’s going to be selling out arenas by next summer full of drunk morons who love to emulate him. And “country music” will have to answer for it all.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:32 am
Adcock is losing ground on his own social media because people with the highest liked comments are pointing out that he essentially ran and is still trying to act tough after.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:42 am
Yeah, because his fan base is a bunch of drunk meat heads who don’t know anything else but slamming beers, whipping them at the stage, and fighting each other. And so when their God King backs down from a fight, they feel betrayed. Zach Bryan knew if he was going to confront Adcock, he had to go all the way. Hopping the barbed wire fence proved his commitment. Nobody can come at Zach saying he didn’t try to defend his honor.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:36 am
To your point, Adcock very well may gain in popularity and start headlining but it’ll be a flash in the pan if his music doesn’t resonate with fans – otherwise it’s a gimmick and gimmicks don’t last long.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:45 am
This story made national newspapers. Most people are asking “who the hell is Gavin Adcock” .
You cannot by this kind of publicity.
Way to go Zac.
I wish I could remember the name (Gabriella Rose) of the artist he was trying to support.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:20 am
That wasn’t just “hopping a barbed wire fence,” that was incredible. Especially with alcohol involved.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:24 am
Well, yeah that’s the thing. Adcock and Wallen are doing culture war kayfabe for profit. It’s all poser crap. For all his faults Bryant is at least real and genuinely passionate about his sense of artistic integrity. I’m sure there is a lot more ego and substance abuse than anything else but Bryant is still the one who closer to being like Waylon than those pussies.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:14 am
No one comes out of this looking good. They’re both hugely embarrassing.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:37 am
As a former K-12 school Dean, I can tell you that I expected better behavior from my middle school students, and I got it. This isn’t about “man code.” Nothing of value is being defended here. It’s not about being “outlaw” either. Nothing rebellious happening here. This is just adults behaving badly.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:38 am
I was just impressed that he scaled that barb wire fence as quickly as he did. That’s a tricky thing to do. Very weary of the posturing on all sides.
September 14, 2025 @ 10:38 am
You can’t tell the guy “if you come over here there will be hell to pay” then tuck tail and back pedal when guy comes over there. At no point did Gavin’s security hold him back. He instantly back peddled, reached for his phone and pointed Zach out to security. Sure there was his security guys between them but no holding back was needed. I dont think adcock is winning any type of “war” after this since majority of online comments from his fans and others are clowning him for being all hat and no cattle. The irony is Gavin saying Crockett was a manufactured cowboy, and then he cosplays as an outlaw and turns coward when it was time to be an outlaw.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:00 am
Zach is the only one who doesn’t have a manufactured image. Crockett is a manufactured cowboy. It’s just funny that the Keuraoc-reading introspective acoustic guy showed himself to be most capable in a physical altercation.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:38 am
Pretty much every “cowboy” singer from the start has been manufactured. While I’m sure there are a few more Rambling Jack Elliot and Colter Wall are the only two I can think of who actually went to live it. It’s mostly a style not a lifestyle and I think everyone who’s realistic knows that. The question over realness here whether or not their act has artistic integrity rather than being driven entirely by marketing. Maybe Adcock is to dumb to know that but either way the “fake cowboy” thing is just a red herring.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:56 am
John,
I can’t tell if the point went over your head or if you’re being obtuse. Based on previous comments from you on here, I’d guess the former if I had to.
“Cowboy” in this context doesn’t exclusively mean someone who works cattle. It means anyone who is authentically country. “Manufactured” in this context refers to exaggerations about one’s personality and/or background.
No doubt Charlie as at least a rural-adjacent background, but he lets on like he just rode into town with Butch Cassidy every time he steps on stage. When in reality he probably grew up wearing baggy jeans and T-shirts and basketball shorts.
The historical acts you referred to were legitimately rural people by every measurable aspect and were dressing up in cowboy hats because that was the dressed-up version of a country singer.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:24 pm
Oh, I get that but it’s the culture war kayfabe I have been talking about. I’m not the one who is being obtuse. It’s silly because if you want to be technical like that Crockett is doing western not country. He grew up poor in Dallas. His style is fashion native to where he grew up and his music reflects the mix of influences one would have in a western city like Dallas. Adcock played that card because he grew up on a cattle farm in Georgia but like I said it’s just a red herring that has absolutely nothing to do with what Crockett was talking about in the first place.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:16 pm
Colter Wall’s dad was as a literal prominent government figure, the equivalent of the Governor of a state.
And I appreciate entirely what Colter has done and is continuing to do, but you can’t claim “Me Me Me more Cowboy than you” and include Colter Wall.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:35 pm
WOOSH!
Nobody IS doing that. What I said is that Colter chose to go and live the cowboy life over being a full time musician. Rambling Jack Elliot was originally from Brooklyn but still ended up being a cowboy.
Aside from all that son of a politician or no Swift Current is a very small town in rural Saskatchewan. When Colter last lived there it was around 16,000 people and at that is still the 5th largest “city” Saskatchewan. His dad knew everybody but there that means farmers, oil men, and cattle ranchers. Come on.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:22 pm
Country Music does need saving…….from clowns like these two.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:23 pm
Charlie has actual talent, Zach not so much.
September 14, 2025 @ 3:45 pm
I suspect Zachs military training gives him a certain confidence going into a fight. Between the two I would bet on Zach all day. Hes clearly a masculine man and while he’s very flawed he doesn’t lack confidence. Ida loved to see him give Adcock a lesson. That said im no Zach Bryan fan and I could tell you what the Marines say about Navy boys , but it might rattle too many here. Ha!
September 14, 2025 @ 12:38 pm
In our little country music world, we know who Gavin Adcock is. In the rest of the world, he was a no-name until now. As “Guilty of Music Row” pointed out, this story is everywhere. America knows who Gavin Adcock is now. His own fans are disappointed they didn’t get to see him fight Zach Bryan, but they’ll get over it. Meanwhile the folks who now know the name just multiplied by many times.
I hope Gavin Adcock’s antics don’t succeed. But there is a reason for the phrase “don’t punch down.”
September 14, 2025 @ 1:41 pm
this story is everywhere? This is the first I heard about it but who really cares about these two losers?
September 14, 2025 @ 2:18 pm
This story is everywhere, especially with the video all over social media, which is where most folks get their news these days.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:13 am
Nice. I’ll be honest, I haven’t much a clue who they, but it appears they are acting like Bro Country artists. Fans with pick-um-up-trucks and coolers and saturday nights on a red dirt road night seem to like to party down with their music.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:13 am
Cant see Gavin Adcock passing on the opportunity to have a little seaman all over him. Seems doubtful, contrived, but idk, don’t listen to either of them.
Zach Russell put out a cool single Friday tho, “Sold out”, probably a better dude, definitely a better listen.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:21 am
Zach Russell is a hell of a dude and that song is great. Dude definitely needs more love
September 14, 2025 @ 11:32 am
When is Cody Canada going to choke Houston Marchman out for writing that Ditchweed song?
September 14, 2025 @ 11:37 am
Both of these guys are straight pussies.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:49 am
A wise man said don’t argue with fools, cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who
September 14, 2025 @ 12:14 pm
Winning comment.
September 14, 2025 @ 11:52 am
Worth nothing that Zach Bryan was starting to walk away until Adcock called him a pussy so Zach Bryan hopped a barbed wire fence and Adcock backed away behind his security. Terrible look for Adcock after talking all that shit online and calling Zach Bryan a pussy
September 14, 2025 @ 12:02 pm
Big loss for America that these two idiots didn’t beat the mess out of each other. I can’t stand either of them, but I am endlessly amused that Gavin Adcock, who has the biggest mouth in music right now, and who endlessly cosplays as a tough guy outlaw, immediately got out of there and hid behind security when a liquored up Zach Bryan hopped the fence (which was awkward and hilarious to watch). My sources are telling me that Zach Bryan tore his scrotum on the barbed wire, and that he’s going to miss 2-3 weeks.
“You wake up in the morning and run into an asshole, you ran into an asshole. You run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.”
– US Deputy Marshall Raylan Givens
September 14, 2025 @ 2:59 pm
His song ‘9 Ball’ will be all that more personal now.
September 14, 2025 @ 12:39 pm
Nobody has commented on the best part of this kerfuffle, the song in the background in the video, Casey Donahew’s White Trash Story, how fitting.
September 14, 2025 @ 12:39 pm
Another day I have to remind myself that Graham Barnham is the mainstream fake outlaw coming to Joes on Weed in the fall, not Gavin Adcock. Not that I’d attend either.
September 14, 2025 @ 12:52 pm
All rather immature. Neither artist emerges with any credit. They should let the music do the talking.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:00 pm
Trig I’m glad you pointed out the part of the video where ZB was climbing over the barbed wire. It took me a minute to see that part. All I saw was a brunette in a mini skirt.
September 14, 2025 @ 1:29 pm
Loudmouth puerile male behavior. As in show biz so in politics. Embarrassing.
September 14, 2025 @ 2:08 pm
C’mon Kyle,
Review Adcock’s record.
Let’s hear your critique of his music.
That is what this site is supposed to be about, not drunken parking lot banter and beefy security guys standing between two dudes keeping them apart.
It could even be staged.
September 14, 2025 @ 2:21 pm
I am not avoiding Gavin Adcock’s album for review. It’s been in my listening cue. But at 24 songs, it’s a large time commitment. As I’ve said before, I’m not commentating on Gavin’s music specifically. But I have heard enough to say with confidence that it’s of the mainstream world, not the independent, Americana, or traditional country. That’s not a commentary on the quality. But when you put mainstream guys on independent festivals, it’s going to create conflict. I predicted this weeks ago heading into this festival. Didn’t know this would be the outcome though.
September 14, 2025 @ 3:33 pm
Boys! Boys! (Meaning Zach and Gavin.) Why don’t you do like Jelly Roll and settle your differences via the WWE?
