Reading Way Too Much Into the Recent Tyler Childers Tease

This story has been updated.
Tyler Childers is about to release the greatest country music album in the history of ever, and it’s going to be so monstrously epic, it will rain holy hell down upon the oligarchs on Music Row in Nashville, destroying the corrupt country music industry for good and forever, while a spring of renewal sweeps across the entire country music community from coast to coast, re-instilling the roots and a true meritocracy to the music, while all real country music fans hold hands and sing out in infinite hosannas.
…or, he’s teasing a brand activation with L.L. Bean that will introduce their exclusive fall season catalog with great casual designs perfect for every occasion.
Truth is, we don’t know what the hell is going on. But after about a two-year drought of really any information or new music from Tyler Childers aside from the announcement of a few one-off shows and festival appearances, he’s dropped a teaser via his social media pages that seems to hint something big is on the offing (see below).
The short, 15-second clip appears to be a continuation the story of a mushroom-induced character from Tyler’s “All Your’n” series of videos from 2019, where among other escapades, the character gets hit on my Tyler’s cross-dressing alter ego, Tammy Chiggers. The teaser shows the character waking up in the woods in the bright light of morning, and seeing the light.
Is Tyler Childers trying to tell us something? Some have deduced that Tyler’s next album may take a decidedly Gospel or bluegrass direction, or both. After all, a lot of his recent new songs trend in that direction, including “Triune God,” “Luke Chapter 2 Verses 8-10” (a Christmas song), and of course he has his old live cut “Take My Hounds To Heaven” that has yet to receive a studio treatment. Even some of his recent cover songs like Bob Weir’s “Greatest Story Ever Told” have a religious bent.
Some fuddy-duddies loved to clutch pearls over the supposed “Satanic” imagery of some of the stuff surrounding Tyler’s last record Country Squire from 2019. Perhaps what’s next to come is a continuation of that thread, at least from a visual standpoint, and one that leads to redemption. Tyler Childers is sober now himself, after all.
Whatever happens next, will it result be the cessation of all political hostility in the United States, the resolving of grievances and differences among all peoples so the ultimate flowering of the great experiment of Democracy can unfurl in all of its brilliance for us to bask in? I’m going to go ahead and say decisively “yes.”
…or maybe he’s just getting ready to release a single to coincide with his appearance at his Healing Appalachia benefit September 23rd and 24th in West Virginia, or a really badass Mountain Dew commercial.
Either way, Tyler Childers has rendered us all super horny for whatever is coming next, whatever that happens to be.
UPDATE: On September 6th, an additional teaser video was added, showing Tyler Childers, his backing band The Food Stamps, and members of Tyler’s support crew.

As long as whatever it is isn’t like his last album
September 2, 2022 @ 11:14 am
That comment is about what’s I’d expect with that moniker. Not a fan of the fiddle, we get it…
September 2, 2022 @ 11:36 am
Says the fan of a doddering tyrant.
September 2, 2022 @ 12:07 pm
Every time I come to these comments I am amazed at how politics seemingly come in here for no reason whatsoever. What a bunch of losers.
September 2, 2022 @ 12:25 pm
Yes, it’s a real shame, and this thread ends here.
I also don’t know why some seem to think Tyler Childers deserves to be lumped in with the “super woke.” I’ve never heard him give a political speech from the stage. I’ve never seen him post any political stuff on social media, except for one instance when the country was burning, and he felt compelled to say his peace, inspired by the death of one of his fellow Kenuckians. Tyler Childers has never called anyone a racist on Twitter. Tyler Childers really doesn’t say much of anything at all, and instead lets his actions do the talking. And few have stepped up for the rural residents of Kentucky like Tyler has for years now, fighting the opioid epidemic, fighting for clean water, and helping folks out in floods.
If you don’t like his music, so be it. But the idea that Tyler Childers is some judgemental, super woke identitarian commie is just not grounded in reality whatsoever. He is, however, a dude with a conscience who seems to care about his fellow man, and is willing to step up and prove that when the moment calls for it. That should be commended, not a reason to not listen to music you otherwise might like.
September 2, 2022 @ 5:11 pm
… I also don’t know why some seem to think Tyler Childers deserves to be lumped in with the “super woke.”…
I agree with you, Trig. He strikes me as just another low-info normie, who just watches the news and believes it. He’s a lot like you in that way.
September 3, 2022 @ 10:03 am
The person criticized a politician in his name. And hasn’t even replied since…and look what it turned into. The people that complain the most, and whine about the political or contentious comments, ironically end up prolonging and blowing them up the most.
September 2, 2022 @ 12:20 pm
Who am I a fan of exactly? Lay off the Fox News, you don’t have to force politics into every conversation ????
September 2, 2022 @ 12:28 pm
If you’re a fan of Biden. You should probably get off of your high “horse”
September 2, 2022 @ 2:10 pm
I’m not a fan of any politician. If you think politicians give a damn about you or me, then more power to you. I’m not on a high horse either. Just to be clear though, if I don’t support Biden I can stay on my high horse with your approval. This is another example of a moronic comment. This article is about music. The first few comments are all about politics. Yours included. I called all of them losers. Seems from their comments we have both wonderful parties represented. Just pointing out how ridiculous it is.
September 3, 2022 @ 6:55 am
Your dickhead dumbass dipshit name aside, I agree with you. Country Squire sucked and Long Violent Road or whatever its name is was a complete waste of money and time. He’s about to go Matchbox 20. Their first album was great and everything after it was complete garbage
September 3, 2022 @ 7:13 am
How is his name any different than yours? You’re both using your handle to proclaim disdain for a public figure.
September 3, 2022 @ 10:42 am
Ah, I forget most people on here love trump. My mistake
September 3, 2022 @ 11:19 am
Oh so you’re just mad cause his handle is against Biden, and that offends you cause you like Biden?…Cool.
I was concerned that you just lacked self-awareness. I’m glad to know your comment was simply another political comment. Those are my favorite.
September 3, 2022 @ 11:47 am
Any more comments in this comments section that do not have to do with Tyler Childers will be deleted, and if the problem persists, the comments section on this article will be shut down. Y’all are disrupting important discussion, and disrespecting this website.
September 11, 2022 @ 3:46 pm
I’m no Biden fan but to have a handle like that makes you look like a total idiot.
September 2, 2022 @ 11:08 am
He’ll be playing a festival in his hometown next weekend, along with Ricky Skaggs, Larry Cordle, Noah Thompson, and some other local musicians.
September 2, 2022 @ 11:36 am
Honestly my first thought was that he was high an posting.
September 2, 2022 @ 11:49 am
I’m fan overall, seen him live, loved Purgatory (and early songs), and I wish him well. I’m not at all “horny” for whatever he does next. The hype might be starting to outstrip the output.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:01 am
As of now, I’d place him in the same bin as Sturgill – one all-time incredible album that I will revisit for the rest of my life, and a bunch of other stuff that is decent but doesn’t even come close. Hopefully he can find again whatever muse or inspiration he had during the Purgatory era.
September 2, 2022 @ 11:54 am
My wife and I think the imagery pertains to Tyler’s sobriety. He has woken up and has now “seen the light”. I think we will see this in his music too! Hopefully a new album, but it will probably go a different direction. Maybe a few gospel songs, no references to drugs, etc. Who knows if it will be country or perhaps a different direction musically. Either way it will be great!
September 2, 2022 @ 11:56 am
Try as I might, I am unable to read much into the clip. Would love to see some new music, whatever that might sound like or where his Muse may take him. (Truly a shame that folks have to jump in and politicize this thread when it has nothing to do with the subject at hand)
September 2, 2022 @ 1:18 pm
Thought that was sturgill at first glance…did they merge do create a Country God
September 2, 2022 @ 1:57 pm
I’m not sure what to think but I’ll share my thoughts since this is a comment section…
My hunch is that burning fire inside Tyler isn’t the same anymore and I doubt we will ever see material like we have in the past. Him growing up, having success, getting sober, settling down etc. will rightfully change a man. After all I don’t think someone can burn that hot and keep it going anyways. Inspiration is temporal and everyone has their expiration dates just look at all the greats. On the bright side though I think he has the pure song writing talent and has developed as a musician so we will continue to see new and good material from him. It just won’t be the same and he owes us nothing. It’s just a reminder to enjoy greatness while it happens, nothing lasts forever.
But as we have seen in previous posts it won’t satire everyone.
September 2, 2022 @ 2:25 pm
He’s pretty good. If he never released another album that’s fine with me. I listened to two of his records and they were pretty good but that was two years ago and I haven’t felt like I was missing anything either. I would definitely consider buy one or two of his records on vinyl because it seemed like all the tracks were good. On the other hand there are a ton of classics I had to sell off during my rambling days. I don’t have any Jerry Jeff and that’s a real shame!
September 2, 2022 @ 3:25 pm
I don’t hang my hat on any one particular artist and the supposed salvation they may bring. This hype gets a bit out of hand. But still a fan.
September 2, 2022 @ 4:19 pm
Goddamn what a cock tease
September 2, 2022 @ 4:59 pm
…”Some fuddy-duddies loved to clutch pearls over the supposed “Satanic” imagery of some of the stuff surrounding Tyler’s last record Country Squire from 2019.”….
Proud Christofascist fuddy-duddy here.
Can you please elaborate on what you’re talking about? Because I pay virtually zero attention to performers with mediocre singing voices, I haven’t heard of this. I may need to begin promoting the cancellation of this guy.
September 2, 2022 @ 5:43 pm
If he’s starting to get silly maybe it’s time to take a break. Social media has created such an addictive need for attention that even artists like Childers get intoxicated by it.
He needs to go smoke some doobs and spend time away before he gets dragged down into the muck of it all and loses his way.
September 2, 2022 @ 6:24 pm
I’v never gotten the hype. I’m sure Tyler is a solid dude, but his voice is nails on a chalkboard to me. Granted, he’s had major success, and I’m happy for him; anyone who busts their ass for years deserves everything they get. Hope it is new music for all his fans. New music that lights a fire of debate and inspires other artists in the Country and Americana genres to get back into the studio is good for everyone.
September 2, 2022 @ 8:05 pm
Jesus H. Christ on horseback! Just fucking stop! It’s music! Shut the hell up. There are plenty of political sites to talk about how you view the state of our nation. Post there. I pity you people. What it must be like to feel as though you must promote your values and ideology everywhere, all the time. Take a breath, have a drink, have a laugh, smoke a bowl, listen to one of your favorite songs, whatever it takes to, like the preacher in The Grapes of Wrath, see things clear. If you truly care about country music, only comment on SCM about country music. I vow that I will never, even to call someone out about posting irrelevant nonsense, post anything off topic. Fuck you!
September 3, 2022 @ 6:33 am
I tell you what, Douglas. I will take your complaint seriously, once I see you rant like this in a comment section full of political comments, where none of the political comments are in opposition to your views.
My rule of thumb on here has always been: comply with the guidelines until it’s evident others aren’t being required to do so.
I’m aligned with you on there being zero political comments here, but there are articles that tie into the political realm, even if that isn’t the primary topic. A lot of folks on The Right believe Childers is a communist. As I mentioned above, and as a subject matter expert, I don’t believe he is. I think he’s just another standard, mid-wit, low-info American, who believes whatever he hears, which probably describes most people.
September 3, 2022 @ 8:41 am
Mr. Childers is not just another standard, anything.
Most “standard” people would not pick up a broom & help with cleaning, after playing a gig.
Does it make you feel better calling someone mid-wit, because it gives you company?
Have you had the privilege of having an in depth conversation with Tyler?
Met a young man, who you would most likely be quick to label, in a walmart parking lot a few months ago. This guy took my cart, & then proceeded to stand there and tick off the hours and days he worked, should i need any “help.” Put a smile on my face & in my heart. Thought his parents would be so proud to see he was a consummate professional.
: D Be nice, Honky
September 3, 2022 @ 9:19 am
Saying things that are true, is nice. I’ll keep doing that.
September 3, 2022 @ 11:08 am
Regardless of what you think about the potential angle or opinion from the one normal song on that fiddle album, I could not imagine a regular person ever having the intelligence for such beautiful wordplay. His interviews also portray a picture of intelligence.
In terms of opinions, far too many people simply regurgitate something they have heard from others that thing like them. Nothing I have seen leads me to believe he is in that camp. I think your opinion here was formed without sufficient evidence and research.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:45 pm
Trig,
I left a couple of comments here that were not off topic. Are they stuck in moderation? I don’t think you would’ve censored them.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:55 pm
You left comments that had more to do with politics than anything else. Just because you mention Tyler Childers, that doesn’t count. I tried to let people post at will, and this comments section is a train wreck. This article is about potential upcoming music from Tyler Childers. That’s the only topic anyone is allowed to speak about now since you and others fucked it up. And the only thing I hate more than off-topic comments, is comments about comments, so any more of those will also be deleted. And if people still try to leave them, I will shut the comments section down.
September 8, 2022 @ 8:12 pm
You’re an absolute shit-stirrer and add nothing of value to the discussion beyond condescension so no surprise they’re on ice
September 2, 2022 @ 8:12 pm
Word around here (KY) from people I’ve talked to said it’s primarily religious/gospel album. I wouldn’t be surprised if it leaned that way and honestly could care less I’m just happy for new music from Tyler
September 2, 2022 @ 8:20 pm
I think that would be Awesome.
September 3, 2022 @ 4:48 am
That would be a nice switch-up. I worry about what success can do to people like him. Not everyone is built to handle it well.
September 3, 2022 @ 3:03 pm
I’d be alright with that.
September 3, 2022 @ 5:09 am
I saw this post on Instagram and thought to myself, what the hell was that? I figured it was probably a clip from a new song and video, but nothing more. Then I read the comments. People are posting things like oh thank god, and it’s finally happening, and many of the posts were from other musicians. It was like religious fervor in the comment section. Hallelujah.
Kinda strange.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:44 am
The whole point of this article was to sarcastically make light on how a 15-second clip of something was making people lose their minds. It’s pretty unclear to me if anyone even read the article. 95% of the comments I’ve seen are people seeing the name “Tyler Childers” and going off on his politics, as if it’s relevant in any way whatsoever. I agree, strange to say the least.
September 3, 2022 @ 8:02 am
Satire and sarcasm are lost forms of expression in these times of the angry and offended.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:05 am
Purgatory was an all-time great. I thought Country Squire, while a solid record, was one of the most overrated and overhyped records (including by this site) that we’ve seen in a long time. That’s just my opinion, a civil disagreement from someone who knows way less about music than Trigger. Hopefully he reaches that apogee again with whatever he has planned next.
September 3, 2022 @ 9:25 am
Loved his first two albums and looking forward to the next one. I appreciate him keeping things real and low key while helping out his fellow Kentucky folks. A guy like that will keep making good music because he knows where he’s from.
September 3, 2022 @ 6:36 pm
Beginning to think the comment section is in need of a way to mute certain people who can’t seem to stay on topic. It’s tiresome to have to weed through the same people saying the same stupid shit. Go post on Twitter or whatever platform suits you without boring the rest of us.
As for Tyler, he seems to be trying to help people and put out music. Nothing wrong with that.
September 3, 2022 @ 7:28 pm
Certain commenters are sent to moderation before they post. The problem here was the commenters commenting here were not part of that group. And believe it or not, comments were deleted, and then these people complain, and are convinced they’re the only one being deleted because they can’t see the other deleted posts, and they start crying. Also, I try to let the comments section “breathe” because the absolutely last thing I want to do is delete comments or play referee. So people exploit that fact, and don’t give a shit about anything but getting the next point in.
