Turnpike Troubadours Announce Slew of 2022 Fest Appearances
If you’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to catch the Turnpike Troubadours on their reunion tour and got locked out of the first round of shows due to the crazy run on tickets, the opportunities to see them live just got a lot more lucrative. A slew of festivals just announced the Turnpike Troubadours as headliners on Monday (1-24).
Along with the previously announced Floydfest in Floyd, Virginia on July 31st, they’ve also now been announced as headliners at the Jackalope Jamboree in Oregon, Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest in Idaho, as well as Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout in August.
Turnpike has also announced they will be playing Under the Big Sky Fest in Whitefish, Montana July 15-17th, but the rest of the lineup has yet to be revealed.
But let’s also not bury the lede here. Along with Turnpike at the top of these festival posters, the festival posters they’re on the top of are impressive all on their own. So let’s round up all the announcements that let loose on Monday (1-24), and help lock in your summer plans.
Jackalope Jamboree – Pendleton, OR – June 23-25
This has been one of the festival circuit’s hidden gems for the last few years. Not especially easy to get to unless you live in the area, but most certainly worth the trip, the Jackalope Jamboree has been earning faithful patrons over the last few years, and ratchets up the ante for 2022 by ropin’ in the Turnpike Troubadours, along with an impressive list of other headliners including the best live band in all of country music—Mike and the Moonpies—the blazing Shane Smith and the Saints, and a cool undercard that includes Jesse Daniel, Rob Leines, Darci Carlson, and more.
Somebody putting this thing together must be a Saving Country Music reader.

Windy City Smokeout – Chicago, IL – August 4-7
Wow, some really impressive lineups for this thing on select days. But make sure you select the right day, or you might be wondering why you’re suffering through Sam Hunt, or Tim McGraw singing “Truck Yeah.”
On Thursday, August 4th, you have Willie Nelson and Family co-headlining with the Turnpike Troubadours, along with Zach Bryan and Morgan Wade. Now let’s be honest, nobody “co-headlines” with Willie. Willie is Willie. But this does illustrate what people who’ve been trying to score Turnpike tickets for some time now know intimately: the Turnpike Troubadours are headliners, full stop, and can hold the stage right beside anyone.
Sunday, August 7th at Windy City is also an impressive day, though some Turnpike fans will writhe at the mention Miranda Lambert (get over it already). Flatland Cavalry and Mike and the Moonpies are also excellent names to see. Mitchell “Bitches” Tenpenny can kick rocks, but his set will give you an opportunity to piss and get a beer.
Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest – Filer, ID – June 22-25
The Turnpike Troubadours will be the Saturday, June 25th headliners at the festival, which also includes headliners Granger Smith, Aaron Lewis, and Koe Wetzel. Other performers include The Steel Woods, Shane Smith and the Saints, Mike and the Moonpies, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lainey Wilson, Kolby Cooper, Ella, Pecos and the Rooftops, Sam Riggs, Chris Colston, and more.
In typical Turnpike Troubadours fashion, after the fest announced them as headliners, their website crashed on Monday, but you can find more info an tickets at hwy30musicfest.com.

Yikes. That Chicago Thursday lineup is a high risk, high reward kind of deal. Willie has bad days, because he’s going to be 89. Turnpike …. well, we all know. Zach Bryan better be prepared to play a 3 1/2 hour set.
Or it could end up being the best lineup ever.

Zach can spend half an hour just playing Revival, and the crowd won’t get sick of it, haha.
…but it’s true that he might have to dip into more Elisabeth songs than he likes, hahaha.

Not to mention its proximity to a war zone. Mere miles from an area with eye popping murder and gun violence stats.

Saw them in the back room of a pub in Newcastle. Blew the place away.

Now I am actually glad that I got shut out of Red Rocks. 2.5 hour drive down I-84 is much easier than a Denver flight. Some strong bills on this list.

Damn, that’s a lot more Northwest festivals than I was expecting. I might actually get to see them live!

OK. So i like, have an idea…
Let’s suppose that Trig is going to be traveling to Mile 0 Fest, in the new Trig Mobile/SCM Headquarters.
That’s a hefty drive from Tejas to Mile 0.
What say we all call somewhat of an armistice from like, Wednesday, the 26th – to the following Wednesday.
Give Trig some breathing room.
Hey ain’t 25 years old anymore, you know.
I’ll try to behave for a week.
: D And, gentile… If you come after me during this time – I will simply bury you.
Trig if you head to the Keys, be safe. Watch your ass. Take your eyes off the road for ONE second, coming down I-75, & you end up wearing that uh, coffee/iced tea, as you slam on the brakes.

Anyone going to Mile0 should see if John Fullbright is playing with a band. It does not say on his website. That show 2 years ago was freaking quadruple next level stuff in an incredible venue. Make sure you go!!!!

I will be there. On my way down now, on my layover at O’Hare from WI. Based on where he is playing at Mile 0 I am guessing he is solo. Playing on the pier and the Southernmost Beach Cafe. Not a big stage. Have been to Mile 0 every year and will not miss it.

Shane Smith and the Saints are the BEST live band on the circuit right now. Always high energy and I will gladly fork over my money to see them.

Its amazing how overlooked they are.

Honestly I think partly it is because they are far superior live than their recordings. First time I saw them at the Grizzly Rose I was blown away, and listening to them on the way home it just didn’t pack the same punch.

Under the Big Sky just announced the full lineup, in addition to “more bathrooms, more free water stations and cheap bottled water, more parking, reduced attendance, more open space at both stages.”
We’ll see what that actually means come festival time, but at least it’s looking like they’re trying to address the criticisms from 2021.
