Turnpike Troubadours Reveal Details of New Album “The Price of Admission”

The Turnpike Troubadours have always been a band graced by a fervent, and frankly, gossipy fans base that will take any kernel of information about the band and make it go megaviral before breakfast. Ahead of their return from a hiatus in 2021, and before the release of their 2023 album A Cat in the Rain, leaks and rumors abounded, which probably did more to promote the band than any big money promotional push or press coverage.
Smartly sensing this truth, the band has been using a succession of purposeful leaks and Easter eggs to promote their new album The Price of Admission ahead of its April 11th release. A billboard was erected outside of Stillwater where they’ll be participating in the massive Boys of Oklahoma gathering this upcoming weekend. And after photos of the Billboard went wild on the internet last Friday (4-4), they also purposely leaked the song “Be Here” via TouchTunes, similar to what happened ahead of the previous album.
On Tuesday (4-8), the band officially revealed the details of The Price of Admission via posts on social media and texts to fans. Just like their 2024 return album A Cat in the Rain, the eleven-song set will be produced by Shooter Jennings, though this one was recorded at Shooter’s “Snake Mountain” studio at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles as opposed to Muscle Shoals.

Like most Turnpike Troubadours albums, the majority of the songs are written by Evan Felker. He finds co-writers in Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor, former Turnpike Troubadour are Tulsa music god John Fullbright, as well as Dave Simonett of Trampled By Turtles. Felker also co-writes a song with Turnpike fiddle player Kyle Nix, and Nix also contributes his own song to close out the album. The pairing of bassist RC Edwards and songwriter Lance Roark also contribute a track, just like they did to the last album.
Expect an album with some slower, songwriter-based tracks in the first half. The album turns much more loud and rowdy in the second half.
The Price of Admission is now available for pre-save, but physical copies will not be available upon release, probably due to the rushed time schedule to get the album out before The Boys of Oklahoma gathering in Stillwater.

Ok, I’ll give you three:
Man Made a Bar
You Proof
Days That End in Why
Miles better than “Forgiving You,” “Leaving Town,” and so on. All Morgan Wallen tunes, as you know, and offered here on purpose.
Felker is talented but not infallible.

We haven’t even heard the songs yet. Good lord.
April 9, 2025 @ 12:10 pm
Which is why I just mentioned titles. I look forward to hearing the songs.

Never have heard someone criticize a song title, wow. Just wow, who cares? Morgan wallen is pop country brother maybe why the need for cool titles instead of insightful songwriting.
April 9, 2025 @ 10:31 am
Whats an exciting song title? Good question. Hmmm…( sips some sweet tea…scratches head and strokes beard) okay, here’s a couple attention getting song titles:

I’m The only Hell my Mama Ever Raised
Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound
Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down

April 9, 2025 @ 5:02 am
What would constitute an exciting song title?
April 8, 2025 @ 6:30 pm
Album of the year and haven’t heard a single note.

I first started listening to Turnpike in 2008? 2009? In Stillwater. I quit drinking about the same time Evan did. I figured if he could quit I had no excuse not to. They’ve been a big part of my life in a lot of ways for a long time.
I’m so excited to celebrate this weekend and all of the meaning the music and Stillwater has for me. Just very very appreciative of all of it. Can’t wait to buy this one

Ditto brother

Very disappointed to see the confirmation that Shooter Jennings produced the new album. He ruined TT’s last album by burying the fiddle and making it less country. Shooter wouldn’t know country music if it hit him in the ass.
April 9, 2025 @ 10:04 am
I could agree or disagree with you on the Shooter comment, but either way, Shooter has not only seen but lived more country than any of us could ever dream of.
April 9, 2025 @ 2:20 pm
They should outlaw you.
April 10, 2025 @ 4:52 am
Or we could both be adults here and include constructive criticism instead of getting butt hurt. I am sure there are several aspects to your life that should be “outlawed”, but I am not here to find or point those out to you.
April 9, 2025 @ 5:50 am
While I didn’t hate Shooter Jennings’ production on the last album as much as others, I was hoping they’d have gone with someone else this time round.
Still, they are my favourite band and I am excited to hear new stuff. Even more excited to finally see them live over in the UK.
April 9, 2025 @ 6:39 am
Turnpike Reddit shares your sentiments. As do I.
April 9, 2025 @ 5:56 am
Looking forward to this. I liked A Cat in the Rain though others seemingly didn’t. I thought the album kept the bands basic sound, but provided a little something new begin the bands next phase.
Seems Shooter is moving into the Dave Cobb realm though, both in the big name acts he is attracting as a producer, and the criticism that goes with it.
April 9, 2025 @ 7:49 am
My take as well.
April 9, 2025 @ 11:25 am
Your website rocks.
April 9, 2025 @ 1:06 pm
Thank you. Appreciate that.
April 9, 2025 @ 7:46 am
So excited for a John Fullbright collaboration. It’s heartening for me to see them working together again. There’s something special about going back to an old creative partner that is just something I needed to hear right now.
April 9, 2025 @ 7:48 am
Looking forward to seeing Fullbright again at Sisters Folk Festival in Oregon at the end of September.
April 9, 2025 @ 8:48 am
I was lucky enough to see Fullbright at a small venue called Rockwood Music Center in NYC. He has great presence and his voice live is amazing.
April 9, 2025 @ 8:39 am
I liked their last album and bought their earlier albums as a result. I look forward to hearing this one.
April 9, 2025 @ 9:23 am
The price of admission is a horse, a deer, and a dog?
Wow…and I thought Ticketmaster was bad.
April 9, 2025 @ 9:39 am
It appears that the new album will only be available for streaming or download for the time being. I’ve spent a bit of time trying to find a way to purchase the cd without any luck. No links to vinyl, either.
April 10, 2025 @ 8:25 am
I heard a rumour that the vinyl is available in June but I don’t know if that’s reliable information
April 9, 2025 @ 7:01 pm
I wonder if we’ll find out what Lorrie’s been up to.
April 10, 2025 @ 8:09 pm
Trigger is it good?
April 10, 2025 @ 8:14 pm
I like it.
Review in the morning.
April 10, 2025 @ 10:14 pm
It’s a heater
April 11, 2025 @ 6:34 am
Facts.
April 11, 2025 @ 6:07 am
It is solid enough, but Shooter isn’t the answer.
April 11, 2025 @ 7:35 am
I never thought I’d be passionate enough about a band to have strong opinions about the producer…but you’re correct.
April 11, 2025 @ 7:42 am
Shooter’s style causes the energy to dissipate. His work is professional. It just doesn’t fit the band.
