Willie Nelson Announces STACKED 2024 Luck Reunion Lineup

Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion will once again be happening at Willie’s ranch just outside of Austin during the greater SXSW shindig, and it’s got a lineup super stacked with talent. Tyler Childers can’t play anything smaller than an arena these days, but he’ll be showing up to the little town Willie built for the Red Headed Stranger film to pick and grin with a whole host of other fine performers.
Other exciting names from the country and roots world include the surging Red Clay Strays, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country revue, the whimsical and super talented Nick Shoulders, the excellent country artist from France Theo Lawrence, and Tami Neilson from New Zealand will once again be making the trek to Luck.
The Luck Reunion also loves to present some wild cards, with this year’s being grunge-era 90s band the Toadies. So will Old Crow Medicine Show, and darn near the entire roster of Oh Boy Records, with Tre Burt, Emily Scott Robinson, Kelsey Waldon, Mick Flannery, Arlo McKinley, and Swamp Dogg all making the trek.
Some 40 bands and artists will be appearing on multiple stages, from Willie’s tiny intimate Chapel, to the big stage out side of Willie’s World Headquarters at the end of Luck Blvd.
Don’t get your mouth watering too much over the lineup. Tickets to Luck are a super hard to get, and they’re sure to be even more difficult with Tyler Childers on the lineup this year. Luck remains just as much an industry event as one open to the public. But what happens in Luck doesn’t stay in Luck. Meaningful connections are made during the Luck Reunion, and often surprise attendees and performers show up.

Interesting take Trigger. I thought this year’s lineup, aside from a few, was pretty weak.
Anyhow, it’s still a great event, especially if you can find food to buy and a place to sit.

I like this year’s lineup, but I guess it’s different for everyone. I think getting Tyler Childers to commit is a huge get at this point in his career, and the undercard is really great.
As for the logistical issues from last year, I called them out in public, and in print. I wasn’t heavy handed about it, but I conveyed what I think a lot of people felt. And they responded and said there were mistakes made, in part since they had to move the day due to weather. Hopefully they clean it up this year.
I don’t even know if I will be invited back after what I said last year, but I’m willing to give them another chance.

It looks like basically an all Americana lineup. I didn’t realize Willie’s personal interest/ focus is on indie Americana acts over say, established Country music acts. Obviously, I’m not understanding this event…at all. Most of these names don’t make a lot of sense, guess I thought it was supposed to be a small mini fest of Willie and his close musical friends. Almost feel like this is something the Americana organization put together and Willie just shows up. How did we get here, I guess is my question, and who is the intended audience for this, if tickets are nearly impossible to procure?

Luck Reunion occurs during SXSW. All these artists are participating in SXSW in Austin then driving over to Willie’s to play. If there wasn’t a SXSW, there wouldn’t be a Luck Reunion.

Exactly. From the beginning, the Luck Reunion has been more Americana and had rock acts play because that’s who plays SXSW. Most of the country music oldtimers left in Austin don’t leave their house during SXSW, let alone play.
This isn’t Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic. There, you can have a beef why the oldtimers are no longer on the lineup. The answer is Willie is not curating these lineups. It’s his handlers.
I can’t stress how sought after tickets are for this. It will be even more so this year with Childers.

And by looking at the poster, Luck Reunion is even more of an extension of the industry convention/ conference than years past with showcases for Oh Boy Records and BMI.
The whole event is more work and networking than a concert.

Willie has not exactly been a mainstrem country artist for about the last 30 years–since he left Columbia records and issued “Moonlight Becomes You” on indie label Justice Records in February 1994!
He hasn’t been played on country radio since then, except for a few singles that were duets with other artists. It doesn’t surprise me that his style–conversational singing, accoustic guitar virtuousity, “cosmic” lyrics, marijuana use, probably left-of-center politics–makes him more at home in the Americana than current country realm.

Oh Boy Records is also doing a “Road to Luck” event at Duett’s in Martindale on March 12. Fans of those artists who can’t get Luck tickets might enjoy that.

It’s Willie! Where’s all the big names?

The first concert I ever attended was a Toadies show in Ft. Lauderdale when I was in middle school. Wouldn’t have expected to see that name again on a lineup with acts I listen to now.

I wish all these high-demand festival shows where you have to sit by your computer and click the button 50 times to get in the ticket queue would offer a low cost livestream of the event for everybody that can’t get tickets. Or record it and sell the videos after. Something so that the people who can’t be there don’t have to feel like they missed everything.
