Jason Aldean to Receive the Dick Award of the Decade
For being the first performer to bring derivative country rap to the mainstream with “Dirt Road Anthem” and opening the door to the scourge of Bro-Country, for being on the cover of People Magazine professing himself as a family man at the same time TMZ busted his ass for cheating on his wife with a woman that he said he had no relationship with yet he eventually married, for wearing blackface in a bad Halloween costume to impersonate a rapper, Jason Aldean will receive the Dick Award for the Decade from the ACMs come April—“Dick” being for Dick Clark, who this decade award was just renamed after, and who luckily is dead so he doesn’t have to see his name besmirched by being associated with the likes of Jason Aldean.
Announced on Wednesday, March 6th, Jason Aldean will now be recognized as the biggest, most important and influential artist in country music over the last 10 year span by the ACM Awards. He will join a very exclusive club of performers who’ve received this award previously, a club that includes Marty Robbins (1969), Loretta Lynn (1979), Alabama (1988), Garth Brooks (1998) and George Strait (2008). Dick Clark was an early host of the ACMs, and Dick Clark Productions remains the production company behind the presentation.
“On behalf of our Special Awards Committee, our Board of Directors and Academy staff, we extend our congratulations to Jason and his entire team on this landmark career achievement,” said Pete Fisher, CEO of the Academy of Country Music, who took the position in 2017 after running the Grand Ole Opry into the ground for nearly two decades. “We look forward to celebrating Jason’s remarkable career at our 54th annual awards in Las Vegas.”
Yes, and we look forward to spitting raspberries and flipping off our television sets when it happens, if we even bother to tune in to your dog and pony show, Pete. This feels like a good opportunity to invoke the immortal words of Sturgill Simpson, who said in 2016 about the ACM Awards after ignoring Merle Haggard for years, “If the ACM wants to actually celebrate the legacy and music of Merle Haggard, they should drop all the formulaic cannon fodder bullshit they’ve been pumping down rural America’s throat for the last 30 years along with all the high school pageantry, meat parade award show bullshit and start dedicating their programs to more actual Country Music.”
But to be fair, who the hell else are you going to give an award like this to, which is clearly based off of commercial applicability? The fact that an artist like Jason Aldean is even considered for an award of this caliber just underscores what a wasteland popular country music has been for the last decade, making it possible and necessary for sites like Saving Country Music to even exist. It feels like we should take one of those big pink erasers they always made you get with your school supplies but only used to to bean your buddies in the back of the head with, and erase the whole damn last decade up to Chris Stapleton’s 2016 CMA Awards. Seriously, just torch the entire country music timeline and cauterize the wound at 2009.
I guess you instead could give this thing to Taylor Swift, but she turned country into pop before abandoning the format altogether. Miranda Lambert would be a better choice. After all, she’s won more awards—ACMs or otherwise—than anyone else in the last decade. But being honest, her commercial output has been inconsistent throughout the last decade. Carrie Underwood would probably be the more logical and better pick for this distinction, and rest assured she’s the one whose fans will be most upset, and justifiably so since Underwood’s been ceremoniously snubbed by the ACMs consistently over the last 10 years. But even Carrie had large swaths of the last decade where she wasn’t touring and on the radio. The country music Gomer Pyle, Luke Bryan? That would arguably be even more lame than giving it to Jason Aldean.
Frankly, Jason Aldean has probably been the most consistent commercial “performer” over the 10 year period. But man does it smart to think of this loser and his green mowhawed guitar player getting up there and accepting an award that once went to the legendary Marty Robbins and the immaculate Loretta Lynn.
Then again, we could get super torqued over this, or we could just take a few deep breaths, remind ourselves this is just the dumbass ACM Awards—which have been a bastion for vote swapping and horse trading over the years more than any other country music institution—and find solace in the fact that naming someone like Jason Aldean an “Artist of the Decade” is just more evidence of the institution’s irrelevance, along with the irrelevance of the last 10 years of country music in general.
Roll up your sleeves and be vigilant, true country music fans. History is on our side.
And go kiss a duck, Jason Aldean.

The title of this article is hilarious. The contents are spot-on.
March 7, 2019 @ 3:33 pm
Very well thought through and entirely fair. Jason Aldean is a dick and his music sucks
March 7, 2019 @ 6:44 pm
His music sucks..u got to be kiddin me..jason aldean is one of the best artist to ever hit the country music charts..im a die hard jason aldean fan..
March 7, 2019 @ 10:34 pm
At least someone knows good music when they hear it, just one thing against you, your not a bigger fan then me. I been to eveyone of his concerts in west palm beach florida
March 8, 2019 @ 3:10 am
That speaks volumes…
March 8, 2019 @ 2:53 am
You guys have got to be joking, right? It doesn’t seem realistic to me and it’s quite hard to grasp that anyone would honestly think Jason Aldean is the best COUNTRY anything. Besides maybe being the best and probably biggest douchebag and poser in the party pits thinking his shit is better than Millie va Nille up on stage
March 8, 2019 @ 12:11 pm
Batten down the hatches, true country fans… the Stan army has arrived and will flood this comment section with their poor English and utter ignorance of everything truly country.
March 7, 2019 @ 7:37 pm
Joe stop your hating bub, Jason Aldean’s music kicks ass
September 27, 2021 @ 4:33 pm
LOL It’s nothing more then watered down modern rock sang with a twang. I learned this tired sh!t the first month I took up guitar. It’s music for the simple minded
March 8, 2019 @ 1:00 am
Takes one to know one, Dick.
March 8, 2019 @ 8:19 am
I couldn’t agree more with you ! He just seems like such a Dick ! I But who am I to judge ! I can’t stand his type of ” country music ” …so I choose to listen !
March 8, 2019 @ 4:52 am
The other side of the coin: Today’s Press won’t mention the fact that Aldean donates time & money to various Georgia Children’s Hospitals and is constantly in the trenches in the fight against Breast Cancer. When other entertainers from Georgia conveniently forget their roots, Mr. Aldean proudly embraces his Macon, Ga. heritage. So, Jason Aldean is human. Just one more point:. All you that continue to sling mud can, “Kiss this Georgia boy’s lilly white ASS!
March 13, 2019 @ 7:11 am
If it was spot on then they know Aldean wasn’t the first to bring rap into country! Remember “over & over again” by Tim McGraw & Nelly!!?? #GetTheFactsRight
March 7, 2019 @ 11:38 am
Wow,tell it like it is Trigger !
I agree with every word.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:40 am
I would’ve guessed that they’d give it to Chesney.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:30 pm
They wanted to give it to him, but they realized he wouldn’t be able to see over the podium to give his acceptance speech.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:39 pm
besides ….chesney can actually sing so he’d be ineligible
March 7, 2019 @ 11:40 am
lol enjoyed the title of the article
Why did they even need to nominate or give the award to someone? Couldn’t they have just completely forgone with this award saying nobody meets the criteria and move on and wait to give it out to someone truly extraordinary… I feel like this is a case of which record company made the highest bid for their artist to receive the award… I doubt it works like that but feels like that
March 7, 2019 @ 11:52 am
That’s just it, they really do think this douchenozzle is “truly extraordinary”.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:59 am
good point!
I do agree with others thinking Miranda, Carrie or even Chesney are more deserving. Besides singing like shit does this guy even write songs or play any instruments? Miranda for sure is all round talented in that respect.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:10 pm
Ironically, the Neckless Wonder spent several years working as a staff writer when he first landed in Nashville, but he’s written very little of his own material.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:41 am
I honestly think Miranda would have been a way better choice than Jason. Her accolades Nd accomplishments triple Aldean sand you can’t count hits because that goes off ridiculous country radio and we all know that’s a joke. Would love to know what kind of video they could possibly put together for this accomplishment. I mean Atleast Miranda has artist from country and all genre that sing and praise her music. Have never seen or heard that about Aldean..
March 7, 2019 @ 11:47 am
I don’t agree with their logic, but I understand that the ACMs are looking for someone who has been a consistent commercial powerhouse for the last 10 years. But as you point out, nobody has been more decorated by awards shows, including the ACMs, than Miranda Lambert. Carrie Underwood has had a pretty incredible decade too. It just feels like we’ll look back on this pick 10 years from now and in line with the other recipients and go, “Really?” Then again, in 10 years there may not be an ACM Awards at this pace.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:23 pm
The problem with Miranda is that her personal stuff was probably too fresh in the minds of the voting committee. Had that been further in the past, perhaps.
March 7, 2019 @ 4:33 pm
You say that like she is done with the personal shit.
March 8, 2019 @ 12:49 pm
You all really sicken me and all your mean comments about such hate about who is a dick in Country music!! You need to bear in mind that Jason Aldeen was performing in Vegas when the Mandalay Bay Massacre hit, and Jason was on stage when this started. No one really knew what it was till they seen bodies dropping. And Jasons crew called him back stage real fast. He had his ear mic in and was singing, you don’t know if its fireworks or gun shots. I live here in Vegas and seen all the carnage and it was horrible and Jason was very lucky to not have been hit. But all you stupid haters, I guess you all would feel better if he had gotten hit by this tragic night! You all are idiots for even coming up for a DICK AWARD! Each Country singer does Country, yet they try other things and new material and all you do is bash the man. Dirt road anthem is a catchy little tune and hell yeah- I’m a huge fan of Jason Aldeen. Times change and musicians try new marerial and they keep going. Let me ask? How many can sing or play guitar in front of thousands of fans and sing for 2 hours or longer Nonstop, No breaks and pull it off and leave that crowd happy and they just watched a great show! Seems to me some of you here deserve the dick award as this is ridiculous and makes ACM and COUNTRY MUSIC LOOK BAD. All you high up producers need to stand back and look at how stupid this article really is. I do agree that ROCK has made it’s way as a blend into Country music, but bare in mind- TIMES AND THINGS CHANGE. I love the Outlaw Country as its REAL, but I’m not going to bash the ACM or JASON ALDEEN just because he is changing his music up. Look at Aaron Lewis of STAIND- ummmm Hank Jr helped him and now Aaron is doing some killer outlaw type Country. You all will bash anyone who changes up their material and trys something new. You don’t have to like it, or listen to it. But don’t be looking like a DICK and coming up with this type of award for ANY MUSICIAN, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE HIS MUSIC. AND THEIR PRIVATE LIFE IS NONE OF OUR BIZ. YOU WANT YOUR PRIVATE LIFE PUT OUT TO THE WORLD?? THINK ABOUT THAT, WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND HUMANS MESS UP. LOSE THE DICK AWARD OR STICK IT UP YOUR ASS, THIS IS MEAN AND RUDE AND ALL YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS SICKEN ME. CLEAN UP YOUR ACT PEOPLE!!! STOP POSTING STUPID ARTICLES LIKE THIS, THE PEOPLE NEED TO SEE MORE POSITIVE, NICE POST RATHER THAN ALL THE TIME YOU WASTED IN THIS STUPID ARTICLE. SO WHO IS THE DICK NOW!!!!
March 8, 2019 @ 2:03 pm
For the record Rhonda, I have never personally criticized Jason Aldean for taking shelter in Las Vegas, and have defended him against many who have. I also think he did do a good job stepping up to help the healing process in the aftermath of the massacre. I’ve also given credit to Aldean for some of the quality songs he’s recorded over the years. But artist of the decade? I’m going to vehemently disagree, though as I said in the article above, I understand how he won based off of commercial performance.
March 8, 2019 @ 6:04 pm
Who do you think deserves artist of the decade then??? Since so many good artist are being criticized and put down due to personal issues or other things. Media says things that are not real facts here. I’m a music promoter here in Vegas and I was at THE ACM AWARDS SHOW back in 2010-11, I’m uncertain of the date. But KISS 2as there and I was at the AFTER SHOW and met Toby Keith and Sara Evan’s and Big n Rich, and many more. And some of these artist added some ROCK mixed in with the country. All of these listed artist here are fantastic! Reba is a great one that is always pure country. So my question is- Why lower yourself and the artist with this stupid DICK AWARD??? It makes the music industry look really bad, with this stupid DICK AWARD.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:10 am
Dirt Road Anthem is basically a song proclaiming the joys of driving while intoxicated. If you think that’s a real positive, I feel sorry for everyone who knows you.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:19 am
Oh, and when they shove their private lives in my face it does become my “biz”. If he doesn’t want me to call him out for being a cheating douchebag he’d best not be going around telling people what an upstanding family man he is while he’s cheating.
March 12, 2019 @ 12:19 am
You name me a song that doesn’t speak of something in life, it’s just A DAMN SONG!! GET OVER IT, ITS NOT PROMOTING DRIVING WHILE DRUNK. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WHAT ARE RAP SONGS PROMOTING, WHAT IS ROCK MUSIC PROMOTING. GOOD GOD NAN, THESE ARTIST ARE JUST WRITING SONGS AND SINGING THEM. AND YOU LIBERALS HAVE TO ALWAYS FIND FAULT IN SOMETHING OR SOMEONE, IF YOU DONT LIKE THE ARTIST OR ARTIST THEY DO IN THEIR OWN PRIVATE LIFE, DON’T LISTEN OR READ ABOUT ANY ARTIST!! THE SONG IS MERELY A SONG, ITS NOT MEANT TO PROMOTE NOTHING. ITS FOR LISTENING PLEASURE ABOUT LIFE. YOU NEED TO STOP LISTENING TO COUNTRY MUSIC AND GET A LIFE, ALL YOU DO IS WHINE HERE IN THIS THREAD. GET A LIFE, OH AND DON’T FORGET TO STOP LISTENING TO COUNTRY MUSIC SINCE THEY ARE ALL FAKE. WHAT ARE YOU, DON’T YOU HACE A LIFE YOU LIVE, JUST AS THESE ARTIST DO? BUT THEY ARE UNDER MUCH PRESSURE TO PERFORM TO THE MAX. WHAT CAN YOU DO? BESIDES PUT JASON ALDEAN DOWN!!!!
March 7, 2019 @ 11:43 am
After seeing this news I think I’m going to have to go take another shower… with the music turned up really loud playing Sturgill Simpson, Cody Jinks, Jamey Johnson, Tyler Childers and the like.
This award show is about as big a joke as Country Radio.
March 8, 2019 @ 10:01 pm
Watch your mouth bruh.
March 16, 2019 @ 7:37 am
You seem upset.
I don’t think it’s “liberals” who have a problem with what country music has become. I’m not going to betray my age, but I was a fan of country music even before Merle became a star. I understand the history of a great genre, and to include this guy with the likes of Marty Robbins and Loretta Lynn is laughable. You can like who you like – I don’t care. This isn’t about anyone’s private life; it’s about the music. Ten years from now, people will be asking, “Jason who?”
March 7, 2019 @ 11:43 am
I’d vote for Miranda!
It bothers me more he was the face of Cabelas for awhile. I haven’t seen his fat face, pedicured fingernails, and earrings trying to fool me that he hunts or fishes in the commercials lately.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:54 pm
Its not hard to imagine him shooting an exotic animal from a helicopter, though.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:20 pm
Or shooting a caged, domesticated bear named Chubby.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:47 am
Does anyone else need a drink?
Also, I have seen people talk about the vote swapping and how the ACMS are kinda shady about their voting process. Could someone elaborate on that because I do not know much about it.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:58 am
Basically, with the narrow voting population for the ACM Awards, representative for artists—whether they are managers, publicists, booking agents, fellow artists on the same label, etc.—will all decide to vote for one artist, song or album in a bloc, thus assuring they will receive a nomination or a win. In turn, perhaps another label will choose NOT to vote for a certain artist, song, or album, and cede that award to whomever everyone else is voting for. Then in turn, everyone else will vote in a block for some other song or artist, assuring they will win as well. So basically major labels, publicity companies, and talent agencies with trade votes to make sure an artist or song/album they’re pushing at the time get more attention as opposed to more of a “let the best man or woman win” system. This can also cross over to years, meaning Big Machine might cede winners for bit awards one year, but then call in favors from the other labels the next year to make sure an artist they’re really pushing wins.
Hope that makes sense.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:13 pm
Thanks for the explanation!
March 8, 2019 @ 6:36 am
That is exactly how it works. It’s just business.
March 7, 2019 @ 11:49 am
Yeah…you’re right….He’s a dick…along with his Affliction adorned band that struts around Nashville acting like they brought something to country music rather than shitting all over it.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:05 pm
I think Blake Shelton would be a fine choice compared to Aldean. He’s released like five records this decade and generally makes better music.
March 7, 2019 @ 6:43 pm
Talk about putting a “dick” up for this award…name Shelton. He’s an assignment t boot.
March 8, 2019 @ 1:48 pm
You are a tool. Minds his own business. Out there promoting older and younger artists. Trying to create a platform so audiences of all ages can see them. And is not interested in the Nashville stranglehold. So sod off.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:19 pm
I’ve been waiting for this article and it didn’t disappoint except I’d love to read more about the politics involved. This pick completely ignores the actual criteria listed on the website of the ‘Academy.’ Kenny or Blake were my guesses for this.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:37 pm
I agree with both your picks but both Kenny and Shelton seem to be out there doing their own thing. They don’t need Nashville so they don’t suck up to the right people.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:05 am
What! Shelton doesn’t need those old farts and jackasses in Nashville. Ha!
March 8, 2019 @ 5:21 am
I listen to Outlaw country, or as it is sometimes called Americana. Dallas area has two such stations. I was channel surfing the other day and heard a song on a country station with a duo…only remember the Shay name.. I think. All I could manage was What the hell is that!
March 8, 2019 @ 10:36 am
Dan and Shay?
Current music duo.. but usually pretty good.
September 29, 2022 @ 12:11 am
He had like 20 number 1 hits, sold out football stadiums and won 3 entertainer of the years during that decade. In what planet is Blake Shelton more qualified?
March 7, 2019 @ 12:38 pm
The Academy of bad pop-rock-edm-r’n’b-music with a banjo is handing out an award to Jason Aldean.
It shows the current situation of mainstream-“country” music.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:48 pm
In certain parts of the English speaking world the word “dick” has a very different meaning than being a shorten name for Richard.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:53 pm
It’s been a pretty bad decade for mainstream country, but I’d give it to Miranda Lambert. Maybe if Stapleton had come along a few years earlier it could have been him.
March 17, 2019 @ 2:29 am
It’s been like that because radio is the main culprit in why we have nothing but pop music and this kind of country over the airwaves 24-7/365 and beyond; this article explains why: https://tv.avclub.com/the-telecommunications-act-of-1996-gave-us-shitty-cell-1798250823
March 7, 2019 @ 12:54 pm
This is the single person that I hate most in all of entertainment.
He’s an arrogant, crass, insensitive illiterate who can’t spell, can’t read, talks tough and in general is the kind of person best suited for sitting outside a trailer park in a lawn chair wearing a wife-beater and not permitted to have a driver’s license or leave his property
This guy is the single most redneck person I’ve ever seen.
it’s as if he just emerged from an old beer can in the swamps like the spirit of trailer-trash past intent on spreading his message of doggone old-fashioned skoal-chewing and fighting and loud trucks alive
Luke Bryan is embarrassing, but this dude is offensive.
He’s beyond insufferable.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:16 pm
”This is the single person that I hate most in all of entertainment.”
But how do you REALLY feel F2S …????
March 7, 2019 @ 4:45 pm
Would you say he’s even worse than Brantley Gilbert?
March 7, 2019 @ 9:22 pm
really..wtfe..
March 7, 2019 @ 10:38 pm
Did you pretty much just define country or at least a healthy proportion therefore of what many think of when they think of the traditional country music fan with ‘old beer can in the swamps like the spirit of trailer-trash past intent on spreading his message of doggone old-fashioned skoal-chewing and fighting and loud trucks alive’? Something to think about.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:26 am
That’s just it. The country music industry fought against this stereotype for 50+ years and was finally making serious progress when Aldean and his ilk came along and affirmed it in a big way.
March 11, 2019 @ 1:38 pm
Thanks for your response. Will you please provide for me your image, perception, view, etc. of a country music fan? Think about variables such as age, income level, type of employment, hobbies, dwelling(type and location), religious beliefs, and additional interests.
March 11, 2019 @ 1:51 pm
Thanks for the comment. Will you please tell me how you conceptualize a typical country music fan. Think about variables such as age, income, type of employment, dwelling type and location, religious beliefs/practices, hobbies, and other interests.
March 8, 2019 @ 8:07 am
There’s not much left today in country music Alan Jackson is the best
March 8, 2019 @ 9:36 am
Fuzz,
He’s nowhere near a redneck. Only someone who’s never met a redneck would say that. In my mind, you paid him a compliment.
March 8, 2019 @ 10:41 am
A redneck is a derogatory term.
A hillbilly is the complimentary variant.
So just give up, Honk. you tire me.
March 8, 2019 @ 11:52 am
Redneck isn’t derogatory. Only a city person would think that.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:50 pm
hill·bil·ly
/ˈhilˌbilē/
nounNorth American
noun: hillbilly; plural noun: hillbillies
1.
informal•derogatory
an unsophisticated country person, associated originally with the remote regions of the Appalachians.
2.
old-fashioned term for country music.
“he played sweet hillbilly guitar”
“Hillbillies” are often considered independent and self-reliant individuals who resist the modernization of society, but at the same time they are also defined as backward and violent. Scholars argue this duality is reflective of the split ethnic identities in white America
Redneck
Noun
redneck (plural rednecks)
(slang, derogatory) A poor, rural, especially white, person from the Southern United States; especially, one who is regarded as unsophisticated, rude, racist, arrogant, lowbrow, etc.
Pretty sure you’re wrong about this one, Honk.
March 8, 2019 @ 4:31 pm
Fuzztizzle,
I don’t care what the dictionary says in this instance. Dictionaries don’t always account for regional terminology and slang.
‘Hillbilly’ and ‘redneck’ have different meanings. Redneck refers to a certain persona that tends to be rural in nature, even if the person doesn’t actually hail from the sticks, (i.e. Hank Hill). Hillbilly typically means someone from the sticks, who may or may not have a redneck persona.
Where I come from, a whole lot of decent people are proud to be rednecks. I realize that you’re a millennial yankee, but you’re going to have to take my word on this one.
Rednecks would whip Aldean’s a$$.
Hillbillies barely know who he is.
March 8, 2019 @ 4:56 pm
As a Hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains with Redneck tendencies, I agree with the King.
March 8, 2019 @ 10:08 pm
You like to throw the yankee and millenial insults out quite often it seems, huh? Do you need to be southern to know anything about country music or country living? I promise wherever you’re from is no more country than the U.P. of Michigan, northern Wisconsin or northern Minnesota. But keep throwing the yankee insult around like people from the south have some kind of premium on what country means.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:32 am
Of course he’s not a redneck. You have to have a neck to be a redneck.
March 8, 2019 @ 7:03 pm
Dangit Fuzz, I didn’t know you were so city.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:54 pm
Aldean took me by surprise. I was really expecting Miranda to receive the award. She’s been at the receiving end of ACM awards in years she was undeserving so why not continue the trend? Choosing Miranda, a woman, would’ve also gone a long way to improve inclusivity in country music even though she doesn’t meet the criteria.
If country awards were based on merit, Carrie would’ve been a good choice so would Keith, Blake and Kenny.
March 7, 2019 @ 12:59 pm
Jason Alden is great and you people need a life. Who are you to judge
That’s God’s job so leave it to him.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:16 pm
Does God pick award show winners now?
March 7, 2019 @ 1:17 pm
No he’s not. He’s an embarrassment. Mushed-mouthed, moon-faced, white trash with a room-temperature IQ. And his music is ear cancer.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:55 pm
Perfect description of Brantley Gilbert.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:59 pm
You’re not wrong. Thanks for reminding me of Brantley Gilbert. I’d forgotten about that disease.
March 7, 2019 @ 4:54 pm
Lol my apologies, NP. I didn’t mean to conjure up any bad memories. I’m not a Brantley fan, either.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:06 pm
We’re not judging his SOUL, we are judging his MUSIC, which sucks.
March 7, 2019 @ 3:24 pm
Judge?? Did you just assume my occupation? I self identify as an excecutioner
March 7, 2019 @ 3:38 pm
Take it easy, Brittany. He’s still all yours.
March 8, 2019 @ 12:15 pm
Who is Jason Alden?
March 11, 2019 @ 8:27 am
I think he was one of the pilgrims.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:00 pm
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:03 pm
This is an abomination. Every other artist who has received this honor had been a legend…Aldean is a joke. 20 years from now, no one is going to remember his name or his music.
Cases have been made for other artists, but honestly I think the Academy would have been better served by not choosing anyone this decade. If the HAD to? Hell, Chesney would have been at least an acceptable compromise.
March 11, 2019 @ 6:10 am
20 years? Even now he has no legacy. He’s almost already forgotten.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:16 pm
“Dick Award of the Decade”: That’s what I thought too when I saw this. We’re actually giving Artist of the Decade to an a-hole?! This article hits the nail on the head, that’s for sure.
I’ll side with Diesel and A reader – I would’ve guessed Kenny Chesney would be the one to win this as well.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:33 pm
Regardless of the quality of his music, which is wildly inconsistent (his early stuff was pretty good). It’s hard to argue the he isn’t the most “influential” and probably the “biggest” country (loosely defined) star of the last decade.
He’s certainly not the best, but he has definitely been big and influential.
March 7, 2019 @ 1:37 pm
”The fact that an artist like Jason Aldean is even considered for an award of this caliber just underscores what a wasteland popular country music has been for the last decade, making it possible and necessary for sites like Saving Country Music to even exist. ”
You’ve one-upped yourself again with this one Trigger . The mystery continues……
……maybe they will show a compilation of All-done’s live award show performances where he goes to great pains to consistently dismantle the myth that a person actually needs to be able to SING to be called a SINGER …no matter the genre …but ESPECIALLY COUNTRY music .
he’s never once delivered a song on pitch . he has almost single -handedly proven that you DO NOT have to be able to sing to be given an award for SINGING . HE hasn’t been SINGING for 10 years and counting and he gets THIS honour ??? so damn……….he must be right !
Urban , FGL , Luke Bryan , Rhett , Gilbert ……what the hell’s the difference . Might as well give it to the guy with the most country hat , I guess ………
March 7, 2019 @ 1:45 pm
hey wait a minute ……don’t you have to have a single released with a straight-up mainstream pop artist to qualify for this award -even if you can’t sing ? …….did I miss Alldone’s duet with a mainstream pop artist ( not counting Kelly Clarkson who we’ll give a by to this time cuz she knows Reba )
March 7, 2019 @ 1:48 pm
For a bunch of people who aren’t fans of here you sure are spending a lot of time hating on him. Don’t worry because I’m sure Jason Aldean will sleep just fine tonight & not give a flying fuck what anyone of you haters have to say
March 8, 2019 @ 9:47 am
its a good way to vent about the insanity , gina , and helps to keep the most passionate amongst us from kicking a hole in the wall , driving 20 mph over the speed limit or taking it out on co-workers …… the key word being “passionate’ which is the reason Trigger and this site exist .
March 7, 2019 @ 1:49 pm
It should have been Kenny Chesney. He has been the biggest star over the past decade and his music isn’t bad. I know some of yall are Chesney haters but being a big Jimmy Buffett fan I enjoy Chesney’s music.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:00 pm
When I first read this, I felt a general level of disgust. However, the more I think about it, who better to represent the past decade of “popular” “country” music?
March 8, 2019 @ 9:49 am
can’t argue with that logic , AKA……although it must have been a tough choice to find the worst of the worst .
March 7, 2019 @ 2:03 pm
I always think he dresses like the guy who cuts my lawn.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:07 pm
I would have liked to see Eric Church win the award. He’s had success on the radio throughout the decade and he’s major headliner. And his music is certainly better than Aldean’s.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:11 pm
I’ve heard of Jason Aldean but who the hell is trigger coroneos? Is that his horse or donkey?
March 7, 2019 @ 4:10 pm
He’s a Country music journalistic legend with the uncanny knack for telling it like it is and how it should be in the most entertaining thorough way in our favorite genre of music. He changes lives! Everyone knows this, even the people on The Row.
Who the hell is Dave?
March 7, 2019 @ 2:17 pm
Going from Marty Robbins, Loretta Lynn, Alabama, Garth Brooks, and George Strait to Mr. 1994 himself is a kick in the nads.
I get it, Alabama and Garth didn’t fall into the “traditional” style of country, but God love em they were good music. And pre-1998 Garth was certainly the best Garth.
I’m pretty sure I’d vote for Chris Gaines this decade over Jason Aldean.
March 7, 2019 @ 2:54 pm
You guys are retarded his personal life has nothing to do with he has talent great songs better than most of the pretty boy bullshit out today
March 7, 2019 @ 10:32 pm
Agree on the pretty boy garbage, but Aldean has less vocal talent than a Friday night karaoke singer and less songwriting talent than the folks at my local coffee shop.
March 8, 2019 @ 12:19 pm
It’s called punctuation. Learn to use it.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:02 pm
It’s called when talk about one subject in a paragraph punctuation isn’t required look it up learn something and it a opinion punctuation is a fact made up by someone to tell you how to do something opinion not fact learn the difference
March 11, 2019 @ 6:14 am
You doubled down on dumbness. You should never do that.
*Decode this by removing the periods, or dots in the line.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:30 am
Actually it’s called “maybe you shouldn’t have skipped English class so often.”
March 7, 2019 @ 2:57 pm
Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, or even Blake Shelton(considering he represents country on the biggest show on TV) would have been better choices.
March 7, 2019 @ 3:13 pm
I see there are ALOT OF “HATERS” in the country world…..PITAFUL!!! ALDEAN HAS DONE ALOT OF THINGS FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THE LAST 10 YEARS!!! GET OFF HIS “D**K” AWARD!!! HE EARNED IT!!!!
March 7, 2019 @ 5:52 pm
Here in Las Vegas, a lot of people remember how he “yellowed belly” out of Vegas right after shooting. His opening band helped strangers get to safety. Aldeans security guard stopped concert goers from seeking protection behind stage, by his bus. Aldean left Vegas and never looked back. That’s probably why he’s getting the award because he was there. He sucks as an artist and person, self indulgent, and frankly it’s an insult to the artists who recieved this award for their accomplishments, in the past. Aldean you having done crap to recieve this award.
March 7, 2019 @ 6:53 pm
Jason is a GREAT artist.
You just need to get a life and stop your hatred for those with more talent then you will ever have.
He has don’t nothine wrong and will always be number one.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:45 pm
If I did hate people more talented than me I couldn’t hate a loser like Jason Aldean because he has no discernible talent.
In comparison I am a contest-winning musician who plays ten instruments, writes his own material, teaches workshops at music festivals and has a published book.
March 8, 2019 @ 1:34 am
You are a ”HATER”. You hate country music. Please grow up!
March 7, 2019 @ 3:29 pm
I had high hopes for Aldean when I first heard Amarillo Sky back in the day. I liked several of his earlier songs.
It’s been a down hill slide over the years as he’s fallen prey to “the formula”.
On a personal level, the guy is a complete douche canoe.
On par with previous recipients….not a chance.
March 7, 2019 @ 3:32 pm
Wow, just wow. Crazy. I’m drowning in hate here. I was always told if ya don’t have nothing nice to say don’t say nothing at all. If ya don’t like the fact he will receive the award, ok, but ya don’t have to make fun of him. You know what they say about people in glass houses.
March 8, 2019 @ 12:07 am
You must have gotten lost. Don’t worry… we’ll let you out.
March 7, 2019 @ 3:59 pm
I don’t hate the guy. It’s just honestly if he was singing to shit he would not get a smell. I honestly don’t c how some of these singers got told they could sing
March 7, 2019 @ 4:03 pm
More like DILDO of the year
March 7, 2019 @ 4:34 pm
You need to get a life and stop complaining about everything. This is about music artists have made. Not about their personal life. And bottom Jason Alden is very talented and has made some damn good music. I love country music old and new. And that is what these award shows are about. Nothing more nothing less!
So happy for you Jason!!!!!!!????????
March 7, 2019 @ 4:34 pm
When he first came into country,I thought OK sounds like he might stay true to country. I’m really disappointed where he’s taken his music. True country stars stay true no matter what, hank, lefty,Charlie, Loretta, Patsy, Ketty, jackson, there’s so many. These new singers are getting way off country. I’m afraid my grandkids are never know what true country is. I don’t care who cheated who, write a good country song about.
March 7, 2019 @ 4:44 pm
Don’t care whether or not his music had anything to do with his cheating. I think it’s terrible what he did. Guess he fell in love with that one night stand.
March 7, 2019 @ 4:54 pm
I never cared for Jason Aldean’s music since it’s too safe, generic and trend-chasing & the only award show that I’ve watched in the past decade has been this year’s CMAs. Other than that, I’m not impressed by the meat parade. This doesn’t bother me because I’ve never been a big fan of award shows, Grammys included. So he can have his Dipshit of the Year award. Hes definitely earned with the songs of death he’s put out and still continues to put out.
March 7, 2019 @ 5:05 pm
For a more realistic take on Dick Clark, listen to the song “The Twist came from Tampa” by Ronny Elliot. The live version.
March 7, 2019 @ 5:22 pm
Try to pick a SCM artist of the decade:
Jason Isbell
……………………….
Turnpike Troubadours
Sturgill Simpson
Whitey Morgan
March 7, 2019 @ 5:25 pm
As a long time Miranda Lambert Fan, she Deirks and Jason all three started out in Country Music around the same time.I can remember when they would pair them to hit the road together. All three have been really hard workers, stayed real good friends thru out their careers. Sure I would have been thrilled to see Miranda take this award home to add to all the others she has deservedly won. I think Miranda would have been in disbelief. Also, I think she is happy and delighted with the award being bestowed upon Jason. Congratulations, Jason

Strawberry Jello Fruit Salad
Ingredients
1 6-ounce package Strawberry Jello
2 cups hot water
1 3/4 cup cold water
1 8-ounce package whipped topping
1 pound frozen strawberries, halved
Instructions
In a large casserole dish, mix the Jello with hot water and cold water until completely dissolved
Refrigerate for about 1/2 hour, or until Jello starts to thicken
Stir in frozen strawberries, and whip with a wire whisk until mixture is thick and resembles broken-up Jello
Fold in whipped topping, smooth top of mixture, and refrigerate until ready to serve
Notes
Save money, and make your own frozen strawberries by slicing fresh strawberries, transferring to a large zip-top freezer bag and placing in freezer until frozen!
There is no cooking involved in this recipe, but there are refrigeration times, so it takes about one hour for it to be ready
March 7, 2019 @ 7:06 pm
In my experience it’ll take 45 minutes minimum for the jello to set .
March 7, 2019 @ 5:37 pm
Am I the only one who seems to have a problem actually understanding any Jason Aldean songs? Like I can’t make out the majority of the words he says because it just sounds like he’s mumbling. I can’t really have an opinion on the man or his music if it’s impossible to decipher!
March 7, 2019 @ 6:06 pm
I know everyone is titled to there own opinion but when did people think it’s ok to judge other people (famous or regular ) The Ten Commandments say Thou shall not JUDGE!!!!! However that’s all we do!!! PEOPLE TODAY NEED A REALITY CHECK!!! Rich, middle, poor, IT DOESN’T MATTER WE ARE ALL PEOPLE IN THE END!!! You wanna JUDGE go to college n get your degree and become one…. ALL THAT MATTERS IS GOD’S IN THE END!!!!
March 7, 2019 @ 8:07 pm
Huh, which commandment is that one again?
March 8, 2019 @ 9:57 am
”PEOPLE TODAY NEED A REALITY CHECK!!! ”
didn’t you just judge us with that ‘observation ‘ ?
March 8, 2019 @ 11:52 am
Did you just assume my occupation? I self-identify as an executioner.
March 11, 2019 @ 8:42 am
“The Ten Commandments say Thou shall not JUDGE!!!!!”
No, they don’t.
They do say “Thou shalt not commit adultery”, though.
March 7, 2019 @ 6:53 pm
He doesn’t write anything much but whatever people listen too I guess. He didn’t even write dirt road anthem Brantley Gilbert and colt ford wrote the song . Just my take on the situation hopefully the right person will get it he didn’t start anything. How about kid rock he did a little bit of everything.
March 7, 2019 @ 7:02 pm
Am I the only person who thinks that if you think Jason aldean is talented than you must be FUCKING retarded! How is he talented? What talent is he showing? Drums? guitar? Bass? Keyboards? Bathroom mop bucket?! Voice? Hell I rather hear the mop bucket. He can’t sing a fucking note and if you think he can you already prove what’s wrong with this whole deal! Eat your dick award aldean!
March 7, 2019 @ 7:06 pm
Well I have to say that all the haters of Jason Aldean need to go screw yourselves because he is and has been one of the top and in my opinion The very best artist of the last decade! So stop the hate people…..geeeeeezzz
March 8, 2019 @ 10:01 am
michael ….I’ll ask you too …..when you hear Jason Aldean sing live on TV , does he sound on pitch to you ? …..
March 7, 2019 @ 7:09 pm
I will say this though. “The Truth” is a damn good song and you won’t change my mind about it. Wish he did more stuff like that.
Jason Aldean always seemed like a dick, but I always thought his music was better than Luke Bryan (at least at the beginning of both their careers). Luke always seemed like a really nice guy who made shitty music.
March 7, 2019 @ 7:14 pm
Who in the hell did Alden influence? Family man that was cheating on his first wife just another wanna be
March 11, 2019 @ 8:45 am
John Alden? You mean the first of the pilgrims to come to shore at Plymouth Rock? I’d say he influenced lots of people. If you go to Massachusetts they even have John Alden impersonators.
March 7, 2019 @ 7:15 pm
For me, give it to one of the last real country singers. Jamey Johnson. Enough said. No explanation needed. Ifor i fucking hear another pop country song I’m going to go crazy.
March 7, 2019 @ 9:09 pm
Love Jamey Johnson! His ‘That Lonesome Song’ record is one of my favs & listen to it frequently. He needs to release new music
March 7, 2019 @ 7:32 pm
Praises go yall way
March 7, 2019 @ 7:39 pm
I’m sure Jason is gonna lose sleep over some inbred rednecks opinions of him!
March 8, 2019 @ 7:07 am
Not sure if he knows how you feel about him….
March 8, 2019 @ 10:42 am
Pretty sure HE’S an inbred redneck.\
and his opinion of himself is pretty high
March 7, 2019 @ 7:54 pm
He ain’t even anywhere near the likes of the rest of those artist listed above. But the D!€& of the year award should be a proper award for a lying, cheatin, no singin bum like him
March 7, 2019 @ 8:06 pm
I had no idea he was still relevant after Dirt Road whatever
March 7, 2019 @ 9:16 pm
all you out there bashing Jason..your just jealous he made something outta his life. and his music rocks..nothing in life is just accepted as what it is. all this hate talk just shows the world is going down the tube..
March 8, 2019 @ 12:22 pm
Learn the difference between “your” and “you’re” and you might be taken seriously here.
March 7, 2019 @ 9:50 pm
Wow! Hating much?
March 7, 2019 @ 10:00 pm
This comments section delivered just as expected.
March 7, 2019 @ 10:11 pm
He is pretty lame. Only kids and dumbasses listen to his garbage. Put on an old hank track or some conway twitty if you want to hear a true country song. What is bro country anyway? That just sounds like the discription of a idiot deuche pretending hes a good ole boy
March 7, 2019 @ 10:54 pm
Conway Twitty had hits in Rock, Pop, R&B and started out in Rockabilly. He is hardly the example of traditional country.
March 7, 2019 @ 10:46 pm
Country Pop and crossover has been around since the 1950’s Nashville Sound and it’s producers, Chet Atkins and Owen Bradley.
Some of it’s dignitaries include; Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Ray Price, Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich, Lynn Anderson, Jessi Colter, Crystal Gayle, Shania, Kenny Rogers, Dolly, Dottie West, etc… Even Willie went down that road. They are all “countrypolitan” to some degree. Traditionalists at that time thought it sucked too.
It is subjective to say what is “traditional” Fortunately, there will always be outlaws and purists to keep things in balance. Just like the “class of ’89” the pendulum will swing again.
March 7, 2019 @ 10:52 pm
His music is literally crap… Country and rap. Really? Can it really even be called rap. I hate this guy’s music. Give it to Charlie Robison or Robert Earl Keen… But then again this are actual, real deal country singers so never mind.
March 8, 2019 @ 1:18 am
The problem I have with Miranda Lambert is her music… Dating back from hooking up with Blake Shelton knowing he was married… She didn’t much care. Two cheating on Anderson East… For a married man Evan felker…. To marrying a cop who just had a baby… Point being how can I respect her as a woman… Let alone a country icon, when it’s very obvious she has absolutely no respect women!!!! So there’s no possible way she can respect herself. What a dud!
March 8, 2019 @ 7:49 am
Not disagreeing with you but your problem is not with her music as you state in your first sentence but with her lack of morals.
March 8, 2019 @ 9:46 am
Goodness you Miranda haters will expose any kind of opening. Get a life.
March 8, 2019 @ 1:18 am
Some decade!!!
March 8, 2019 @ 1:20 am
I love Jason Aldean’s music but after the Vegas shooting I have to pass on him. Jason Aldean had the same tattoo on his arm that’s on the Illuminati card deck that predicts these tragedies before they happen. He’s a globalist Elite Shill through and through, sent out here to distract the people from the UN Agenda 21 and from what the globalists/democrats are doing. Why do you think they shut that investigation down so quick and kept it tighter than a Bull Frog’s ass? I wonder why the mainstream media didn’t report that the Saudi Prince and President Trump were in the same hotel that night on the top floor? That was an assassination attempt gone bad Patsy to distract from it. Just go to Wikipedia and look up false flag they don’t even try to hide it anymore. They know the sheep are sound asleep in front of the acoustical coma box. AKA Television.
March 8, 2019 @ 3:49 am
Jason is awesome, he deserves this. He is very entertaining and sings well. His personal life has nothing to do with his singing. You haters need to get over yourselves
March 8, 2019 @ 3:53 am
If you add up the IQ of the Jason Aldean and Kane Brown troll defenders you still end up at -1
March 8, 2019 @ 4:22 am
I’ve been a country music fan for nearly 30 years, and I agree with parts of this article. Country music has been a disgrace for the last 10 years, but I actually like Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, other various artists including artists that are “true” country, (Conway, Merle, willie), but the one part I disagree with is Chris Stapleton, I have tried to listen to his music but I just cannot get into it. A lot of the artists nowadays has paid their dues, and I have heard of when the started out, but Chris Stapleton, I never heard of until he won what it seemed like every award that night 3 or 4 years ago, and than all of the sudden he is a superstar, let’s diss some of the actual stars and give this guy the stage. Just dont see him as a very good singer.
March 8, 2019 @ 10:10 am
… if you prefer Luke Bryan’s singing over Chris Stapleton that’s your right ..
…….but do your homework on Stapleton ……you couldn’t be more uninformed about his dues-paying .
March 8, 2019 @ 6:32 am
All these organizations exist to put on an annual TV show. I used to attend the ACM show when it was at the Gibson Theater at Universal Studios. The sound and production values of the live performances were always top notch. It was just a great concert. Post-show I got to chat with some of the big names and the A-Team players brought in for the occasion. Then, they got greedy and sought a cheaper venue resulting in a move to Las Vegas. Los Angeles, believe it or not, is the largest country music market. The ACM was chartered to promote country music to the west coast. I don’t recall Las Vegas having a coast. As for Aldean…I dig some of his work and like him or not he has worked his ass off for many years and has yet to take his foot off the gas pedal. I appreciate a good work ethic. Artist of the decade? Maybe from a business aspect. Artistically, not so much. The thing that bothers me about Jason is he just doesn’t seem all there when you talk to him. He always looks pissed off and uncomfortable, like he’d rather be someplace else. I’m happy the young man will get recognized for his success and I hope he loosens up some and at least tries to look like he’s having a good time. The awards are of no significance to me but they are to the recipients. I just want a good show.
March 8, 2019 @ 7:07 am
If we are awarding financial production, the award should go to Garth Brooks who just sold 450,000 vinyl LPs/CDs in under twenty minutes online. At $100 for each set consisting of 7 LPs and 7CDs the gross is $3,214,286. In his hay-day he accounted for 60% of the revenue generated by the Nashville based music business. Dude produced maybe six really great songs, the rest being easily forgettable. I never understood his massive success, but then that is why I have never made $3M…in any amount of time. I know nothing.
March 8, 2019 @ 7:38 am
I Love All Of Jasons Music, He Has Great Talent, All You Haters Can Just Get Over Your Bad Selfs, I Belive That Jason Will Be Around For Many More Years Sharing His Music With All The World …. A Fan Forever … 🙂
March 8, 2019 @ 9:54 am
just curious , robin ……..when you hear him sing live , does he sound on pitch to your ears ?
March 8, 2019 @ 2:18 pm
Just like country music, pitch evolves too. And for the better! He is just singing in a new and improved, more unique pitch! : )
March 8, 2019 @ 9:21 am
That’s hilarious.. makes good for publicity.. i guess
March 8, 2019 @ 9:39 am
Love this article! I love your playlist on spotify and I follow this webpage every day. I was hoping you would give some more of your thoughts on Reba’s new album. I know you mentioned No U In Oklahoma the other day, but today she released Tammy Wynette Kind Of Pain and I think it’s amazing. I assume you’re probably waiting to do a full album review, but what are your thoughts so far? Has Reba delivered?
March 8, 2019 @ 9:41 am
I’ll probably add a Reba song to the playlist pretty soon. Already have done a couple of articles on the upcoming album, and will likely review it when it comes out. Been excited from what I’ve heard so far.
March 8, 2019 @ 10:22 am
Dale Watson the real deal
March 8, 2019 @ 11:48 am
Why has the state of Georgia been so adamant about putting out some of the crappiest abominations of country music in this past decade. Georgia used to be home to some of the best musicians in country music. But lately, Georgia has just produced utter crap
March 8, 2019 @ 12:59 pm
I was raised on old country…the world has changed. So has music. I like a variety…i love riding on a back :dirt road” pumping dirt road anthem , my gun, my dog & sum cold beer…it is the bottom line with industry & the performers….i say good luck may the best Dick WIN
March 8, 2019 @ 1:26 pm
He has taken a wrecking ball to country music and for this he awarded. He make generic 80’s corporate rock and somehow the powers that be call him country. I never understood how he ever won any kind of award much less this one, this is a kick in the face to traditional country music. There is nothing genuine about this person or what he refers to as his music, bloated drunk.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:14 pm
Wow the stans came out in force for this one.
March 8, 2019 @ 2:21 pm
Well, he is a dick. And he has been one for the last decade.
Good choice.
March 8, 2019 @ 6:04 pm
Jason has annoyed the wrong people and now he is forced to deal with the aftermath of parasites that will cover him in their depraved slimey greasy trails of big ideas and schemes of glory. Awards are wonderful.
March 8, 2019 @ 7:18 pm
Aldean’s “Hicktown” is a jam. He actually sings, it’s fun to play, there are some rhymes worthy of Alan Jackson, and you can two-step to it.
What the hell happened?
March 8, 2019 @ 7:23 pm
What Virgil Williams said
March 8, 2019 @ 8:20 pm
Artist of the decade. More country than Jinks, more country than Hank Sr.
Happy early Easter.
God Bless Bro Country.
March 10, 2019 @ 1:10 pm
Well I’m gonna have to keep that joke in my pocket ????
April 5, 2020 @ 2:20 pm
I’m going to assume that you are a troll..and are actually just trying to get a rise out of people because nobody could be as pathetic as you are pretending to be. Jason aldean is a talentless little cowardly turd. This little creep in the same class as Marty Robbins. You’ve got to be Fuc&!ng kidding me.
March 8, 2019 @ 8:38 pm
Jason Aldean for president of bro country.
March 9, 2019 @ 11:01 am
I wasn’t aware of the blackface incident. How disappointing and disgusting.
That said, awards shows just don’t matter anymore. The wrong people get nominated, the wrong people win, the wrong people get honored (as evidenced here). The only thing that’s kept me watching is the performances (and lots of whiskey), and even those are steadily dwindling in the quality of artist selection (Kelsea Ballerini’s pop/dance routine? Kane and Lauren’s horribly awkward pop duet?).
We keep grumbling over the terrible choices made by the people who are running these awards charades, when perhaps we should be discussing and advocating for an entirely different way to honor the accomplishments of truly deserving artists?
March 10, 2019 @ 11:43 am
Found this site searching Midland news (I won’t reopen that wound) and I think your take on modern country’s dreadful evolution in the past decade plus is spot on. Aldean receiving this award perfectly sums up the utter shit show country music has become in the 2000’s. I do think we’ll eventually see country music experience a true renaissance at some point in the future but it has taken much longer than I ever expected it would.
March 11, 2019 @ 6:02 am
One of the true Bro-Country superstars with all the boxes checked. Tractor Supply hat, Walmart cowboy shirt, forearm tat for all to see, 5 o-clock shadow,, and absolutely ZERO talent. Just look at the picture,, walking down the road trying to look like Billy Bad Ass carrying two invisible watermelons under his arms. If this dork isn’t the epitome of douchebag, I don’t know what is.
March 11, 2019 @ 10:37 am
If they had to give to any bro country artist it should be Luke Bryan, who has had the most hits this decade.
March 12, 2019 @ 1:30 pm
Happy to see all of the support for Miranda in these comments. As the most award-winning mainstream country artist of the past decade, she would have gotten my vote too.
March 13, 2019 @ 11:37 am
Okay, I did some research. For the decade, Luke Combs has the most #1 songs with 11, followed by Blake Shelton with 8, and Jason Aldean is tied with Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band with 6.
In overall record sales, Taylor Swift is the biggest-selling “country” artist of the decade, followed by Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan, and then Jason Aldean.
In both sales and chart success, Luke Bryan bests Jason Aldean. If one crappy performer should be crowned the Artist of the Decade by popular metrics it is Luke Bryan.
Now, Miranda Lambert has had 5 #1 songs since 2010, but in addition, she is the single most awarded artist in ACM history. She has won a total of 27 ACM Awards – 25 of which she has won in this decade.
March 13, 2019 @ 12:05 pm
Sorry. I meant Luke Bryan. Not Luke Combs.
March 16, 2019 @ 9:08 pm
Nice compilation Duke. Jason is also 3 time defending champion Entertainer of the year award winner and is up for it again this year. I had heard the Entertainer of the Year breaks it down to combining sales of music and concert tickets for the artists. If that is true, Jason does sell lots of both. Plus for those that complained about him getting off the stage when shots were fired, his wife was there and pregnant at the time. He was going to save her. And, he has done alot for the victims in the aftermath. Miranda is a fan and friend of Jason. I do wish she would get recognition for all of her ACM wins, She is part of the Musical Event of the year song with Jason ‘Drowns the Whiskey’.
April 6, 2019 @ 9:43 am
Aldean, Chesney, and McGraw need to learn how to wear a cowboy hat. A hat two sizes too large and pulled down over your eyes doesn’t evoke or project badassery, it’s a compensation for the lack thereof..

I can’t stand Aldean, don’t like his singing but especially dislike him for what he did to his first two daughters and wife. He lied to his fans about his cheating and knew would divorce his first wife. His new wife is a gold digger and knew he was married but didn’t care about his first two daughters. After she married she immediately popped out two of her own to trap him. Can’t stand either one of them. I hope he meets another woman and leaves her!!!
