Landman Soundtrack Includes Killer New Dwight Yoakam, Flatland Cavalry Tracks

Where Yellowstone left off helping to promote independent country and roots artists, the 2024-2025 series Landman starring Billy Bob Thorton stepped up. Written and sometimes directed by Taylor Sheridan, with Yellowstoneย Music Supervisor Andrea von Foersterย selecting the music, the series gave a worthy boost to some deserving performers over its first ten episodes on Paramount+.

Vincent Neil Emerson, 49 Winchester, Turnpike Troubadours, Ward Davis, Brent Cobb, Kaitlin Butts, Whitey Morgan, Ian Noe, The Red Clay Strays, Cody Jinks, and Tanner Usrey are just some of the worthy names that made the list. The series released a score soundtrack composed by Andrew Lockington back in March. But now they have released an official song soundtrack that includes some of the top tracks showcased in the series.

You might wonder what the reason is for releasing a soundtrack compilation of previously-released songs in 2025. With Spotify making many of these songs accessible to our fingertips, anyone can make a playlist of these songs. But there’s actually a good reason for this soundtrack. Billy Bob Thornton who also has his own band called The Boxmasters, and country legend Mark Collie who plays the sheriff on the series actually contributed to five original tracks that made the record.

Thornton and Collie are co-writers on the songs “Livin’ It Up In Texas” sung by Billy Gibbons, “She’ll Dance For Whiskey” sung by Parker McCollum, “That’s What Lonely People Do” performed by Dwight Yoakam, “Blood for Black Gold” played by Ronnie Dunn, and “Midland After Midnight” by Flatland Cavalry. This gives the soundtrack a unique flavor compared to a playlist of songs featured on the show.

The Billy Gibbons track was released previously, and is a pretty wild song. The Parker McCollum and Ronnie Dunn tracks also have a pretty strong contemporary feel. But Dwight Yoakam’s “Blood For Black Gold,” and the Flatland Cavalry track “Midland After Midnight” are both strong new country songs (listen below), bolstering this soundtrack beyond the previously-released material.

During the filming of the first season, Billy Bob Thornton would pull out his guitar and sing or work on the songs on the set with Collie. โ€œWe wrote a couple of songs [that] were kind of inspired by the area, that business world. We’ll see if they end up on anything. And maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but they’re at least there,” Thornton said.

Well now they have ended up on something, with big country performers singing them.
