Mile 0 Fest in Key West Announces 2021 Dates & Lineup
The Texas, Red Dirt, and Americana-oriented Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida will be moving forward April 27th to May 1st, 2021, and have just announced the festival’s preliminary lineup. Usually occurring in late January/early February, they have moved the date later in the year due to COVID-19 concerns, and attendance at the fest will be capped at 75%. The 2021 installment will also incorporate more outdoor venues compared to previous years, along with other COVID-19 protocols.
Leading the lineup are the usual headliners from Texas/Red Dirt, including Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers Band, Pat Green, Reckless Kelly, Bruce Robison, and Jack Ingram, along with many of the names surging in the scene such as Mike and the Moonpies, Jaime Wyatt, and Shane Smith & the Saints.
The wildcards for 2021 are also impressive, with Lucinda Williams coming in as a headliner, husband/wife duo Shovels & Rope also making an appearance, and Southern Rock titans Blackberry Smoke making their first appearance at Mile 0 Fest. More names will be added to the lineup in the coming months.
And no, there will not be some dream reunification of the Turnpike Troubadours this year, but Turnpike fiddle player Kyle Nix will be making an appearance, likely with some Turnpike members behind him. Also Turnpike bassist and songwriter RC Edwards will be appearing with his band RC and the Ambers, and Turnpike guitarist Ryan Engleman at last check was still touring with Reckless Kelly. So the Turnpike Troubadours will be there in spirit if nothing else.
Along with utilizing Key West’s Truman Waterfront Amphitheater for nightly performances, Mile 0 Fest takes place throughout Key West in venues big and small, from intimate acoustic performances, to collaborative full band jams, and other adventurous experiences. More information on what the 2021 Mile 0 Fest will have in store coming soon.
Passes and packages that include accommodations will go on sale October 9th at mile0fest.com.

Interesting, Kyle Nix and RC but no TT. I know they haven’t said anything about a return

Even though it’s far away, it’s good to see things on the horizon of returning to normal

I live in South Florida. Most of our restrictions were just lifted. As long as cases stay low (admittedly a big if) should be good to go.

Sweeeeeeeet, perfect. The timing never suited me (I like summer in Australia) so this will work well.
Line up isn’t the best its been, but I’ll see you there.

Nice to see Lucinda as the headliner of the headliners. Rare to see a female at the top of a festival bill. Saw her open for neil young maybe 20 years ago and been a fan ever since

That bizarre Greendale tour?

Yep saw that tour in milwaukee….neils show was definitely bizzarre but i dug it. I actually think some of the tunes on greendale have held up much better than most of his 2000’s output….lucinda killed it thougj, and im always impressed when an opener impresses me

I love Neil Young!
That was probably the last time I saw Lucinda in concert (2003). I saw her melt down on stage in 1999 at a free concert at the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Arts Festival and I saw her once with her late father at the Benedum Center. He’d read poetry and then she play. It was actually kind of cool.

Exciting lineup, but it’s starting to feel like even April 2021 may be a bit too soon for something like this to work.

Yesterday Florida opened up 100%. We’ll see.

Another fun note:
Over the last 7 days, Florida has lead the nation in COVID deaths.

The timing on this I think is very, very savvy. Granted, they’re taking a risk of being canceled because its still just a bit early. But as soon as the “all clear” is sounded and a vaccine is widely available, there is going to be a run on musical talent the likes we have never seen. Every festival, tour booker, and venue is going to by vying for talent and dates on the calendar, as they all try to make up for 2020 dates, including many that are still holding money from via sold tickets. Many events may be able to move forward, but won’t be able to find enough talent to fill rosters. Trying to be first at what is a logical time for the COVID fever to break is a smart move, and a little gutsy. We’ll see.

Hope for the spring of 2021 we’ll all be out of this nightmare. Stay safe bros&sis.

I plan on being there for the fourth year in a row. Prefer to leave the WI winters for the traditional January dates but understand why they moved it back. Always a good time. The after hours shows are usually the best ones; wonder if they will still have them. They have typically been held in bars and I think they are planning to reduce the indoor venues and have more outdoors (even though most of it was already outdoors). I doubt the neighbors want to hear live music being played outside at 1:00 am.

If you think about it, multiple of the after hours venues are already open air: The Smokin’ Tuna, Durty Harry’s (though it’s kind of cave-like), and there’s a couple others they could incorporate. The only regular venues you’d have issue with is The Irish Pub and the Key West Theater.

Maybe they’re technically “open air”, but there’s no way I would get into the mosh pits that are Smokin Tuna’s and Durty Harry’s late night shows, especially the opening night jam at Durty Harry’s. We’re going to pass this year after being all over the first three. Lucinda will flat kill it on the main stage.
Surprised to see no Shinyribs or Charlie Crockett.
Sad to see no Carter Sampson. Her sets were underappreciated gems.

No WCG this year?
I’m planning to still hang in Europe, unless I’ve been vaccinated.

It’s just the initial lineup. William Clark Green might be added later.

Ah, makes sense – he’s been a fixture, so I was surprised not to see him.

I may be misremembering, but has anybody of note actually been added after the initial lineup announcement? It’s been mostly smaller, solo acts. I’ll be surprised, pleasantly, if someone like WCB gets added.

I think they’ve added one or two big names in the past. But I suspect the headliners at this point are pretty much set. I personally look more forward to who the up-and-comers are going to be. No offense to Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers, but they are pretty much a given. I want to be on the ground floor with the artists who are going to develop in the coming years, and Mile 0 does a good job giving these artists a stage to play on as well. I remember last year everyone was raving about Juliet McConkey, who barely anyone had heard about before.

It would be a good event for Carson McHone.
