Many Sturgill Simpson fans in Charlotte, North Carolina and beyond are still disappointed after it was announced last minute and right before his set time that Sturgill Simpson would not be appearing. Tyler Childers has been tapped to perform for Sturgill in Georgia.
Along with his eight appearances on Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour throughout September, and a stop at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina on September 16th, Sturgill Simpson has set a five-night residency at Webster Hall in New York City.
Once again Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Fest sponsored by Blackbird Presents will be rolling down the road, and they have just released the 10 separate lineups, dates, and locations for the 2019 season. Originally started as a one-off event in 2016, for the last two years the Outlaw Music Festival has been a touring affair.
Scranton, Pennsylvania will be the host of the inaugural Outlaw Music Festival to be held at the Pavilion on Montage Mountain on Sunday, September 18th, with headliners Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Willie’s son Lukas Nelson’s band Promise of the Real backing up Neil Young on stage.
As time has gone on, questions have arose about what is happening with the Hall of Fame. The spring of 2014 came and passed, and no progress or dates for an opening or inaugural induction ceremony were announced. As Saving Country Music explained at the time, the Outlaw Hall of Fame has been delayed because the location it planned to occupy was caught in a legal battle.
