Songwriting showcase “The Hook” has a series of new shows scheduled for Sunday afternoons in May at Austin’s favorite honky tonk and music venue, Sagebrush on South Congress.
Bob Mason has been playing in a bluegrass outfit called the Piper Road Spring Band for 52 years. “We started when we were 4 years old,” he jokes. They played the Grand Ole Opry in 1978.
Of all the songwriters who’ve participated in the songwriting showcase The Hook, songwriter Paul Orehovec—who performs under the name Poor Life Choices—has definitely been one of the most colorful.
Through the strength of his song, his natural humor, and likeable disposition, Ernie Nickels earned himself a co-writing session with the one an only Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon.
Jami Grooms returned to the second installment of The Hook on September 29th, again with high expectations, and once again surpassed them with his song “Paid For It.”
The legendary frontman for Leftover Salmon, Vince Herman, showed up to start ‘The Hook’ off, and then stuck around the whole show to add his songwriting insight and signature humor to the program.
